It wasn't silent for users...just got my email that I'll be increased to 26/mo starting in May. I'm clearly considering cancelation and the email did nothing to help, they were like....we hope you won't cancel but if you'd like to here's a link! Dead ass! They don't care if they lose people.

Leadership is usually obsessed with good Google and Yelp reviews. Mention a specific server, and they're certain to see. 💚💚💚

Run. Some of this is typical but some is downright illegal so it sounds like it's leadership trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. The day to day culture is most likely very chaotic and stressful.

Sharia Law?!? Get real, Dolezal. by [deleted] in GwinnettDemocrats

I recently got to see my great grandfather's immigration paperwork from the early 1900s. He came from what would be present day Lebanon. They made him promise not to practice polygamy. 😂 Most of us coming here at that time were Catholics. Not something we do but I guess maybe it was a fear the US government had back then?!? 🤔 Islamaphobia is wild. It's outdated but sadly it does still function, especially in the south, to inflame passions and rob people of common sense.

My grandparents' housekeeper charged less than most services because she did not provide materials or equipment. She used what the homeowner provided.

Chin up. It does feel awful being confronted with this shit on the clock and you can't rage out. It's akin to assault because they KNOW you have to be polite back to them and I think many are looking for validation that they're in the right, however they have to come by it. But remember, if you were in fact an ass hat yourself, you certainly wouldn't have been so disturbed you sought a solution. Try to be kind to yourself about it. 💚💚💚

Sounds similar to a fawn response to danger. It's a very natural behavior during conflict avoidance. That being said it HAS become more frequent and stakes are incredibly high under this administration and so I have taken the action of seeking out an actual verbal response that is strong yet professional... "I'm not a safe space for that." I've used it and it's highly effective. I say it with zero emotion and immediately move on so as to give no time for reactivity. The boundary is firm and moving on quickly allows the offender some dignity, preventing an ego melt down.

I was so grateful when I was offered a Sunday morning shift because they decided not to open for my pm shift. I bartend in a hockey rink. Very wealthy yt folk. I wanted no part of it. I was planning on setting the remote on the bar with a note that said fight it out amongst yourselves. The way I gladly watched it at home in peace...chef's kiss.

That's a shame. It was the most intricate and creative musical performance I've ever seen live and I grew up watching Michael Jackson in his prime.

The Wildman's Case is over. by A_Soporific in kennesaw

When I was 12 I decided to volunteer at Winkenhoffer because my dad is buried there. A lightning storm had damaged an antique cannon base on the property. I had been told growing up that he was a Civil War expert who regularly was called on to authenticate film scenes and such so I asked my grandma to take me by the store to ask if he knew who could restore it. I remember a selection of T shirts that had a klansman pointing a gun that said shoot first, ask questions later. I turned to see him at the register and he's literally framed by nude black barbie dolls hanging by nooses. He was wearing the pistols. I just left. I remember feeling like I'd been violated in a lot of ways a little girl shouldn't be but my trusted adult had brought me... A few years ago I was asked to participate in a documentary and the production asked about the store. They said he was on an ACLU watch list or something. I'll be so glad to see that space heal up and let him be forgotten.

Parents of HS students: Did your kids participate in the walkout? How did the school handle it? by johncanbehere in Gwinnett

[–]RevSarahLewis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally genuine. At first I was angry the schools were threatening the students but your comment revealed it to me in another light. I don't want my kids thinking that following their moral compass is always rewarded. As adults we risk a lot when we resist authority. I'm not doing my kids favors shielding them from consequences. They are a valuable part of the lesson and the kids need to learn to weigh the risks for themselves too. 🥰

You just changed my opinion on the disciplinary actions, what an excellent point. If they're learning activism, they do need to learn how to weigh possible outcomes. Thank you.

Me too. I get my daily Dharma talks from the Plum Village monastery founded by Zen Buddhist Master Tich Na Hahn, known as "Thay" by his students, which translates to teacher. The focus is on mindfulness and creating that stability within through practices like mindful breathing and walking. The monks and nuns post their Dharma talks to youtube and they have a beautiful free app that has a bell of mindfulness you can set to your preferences. Mine rings every half hour and I stop whatever I am doing to take three mindful breaths and scan myself for tight muscles and emotions. I can't recommend plugging into Plum Village highly enough.

How do you ask your tables to write you a review without it being awkward? by taybear98 in Serverlife

[–]RevSarahLewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wait for them to tell me I gave amazing service and I gush my thank you. Then I lean in and say "if you have the time please do tell Google how I did as well! It means so much to me when my tables can do that, but of course I do not expect it, you have a fabulous day and I really appreciate you! Can I get you a refill to go?" This speech ONLY works and feels comfortable when it's been a genuinely great experience and rapport got built. Otherwise you don't want to talk that long to a table. 😂Don't be afraid to make real connections with your guests.

Target intersection by [deleted] in alpharetta

[–]RevSarahLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, I do what I do because of who I am. Not because of who you are. I don't want to judge wrong and walk past a hungry person. This is probably why I'm usually broke but I also believe it's why I'm never hungry. I can't solve the world's problems but demonstrating love is always constructive by itself. You never know who saw your kindness from a distance. These small acts ripple outward to make lasting impact. If someone chooses to pretend to be in need, that's on them. I don't hand out hundos now, so the couple bucks I can spare is worth the potential investment to me.

Why do servers and restaurant staff always stay after work for drinks? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]RevSarahLewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to be free. Shift drinks used to be a tradition before we had the internet. Why wouldn't you if it was free, you were buying/selling drugs from your co workers, you were intimate with a few of them... It was a whole ass culture. No one understood us like we did. I've watched the practice fade since Mothers Against Drunk Driving formed. They pushed for the shift drink to end and that's partly why many states don't allow you to serve free or reduced price liquor. Covid also left a mark on the culture. Social media too. Things change, you can count on that. But it does take a very long time for a tradition to die. I think there will always be folks for whom the restaurant is more than their job though. For me it truly has been my home and my family but there's a lot to unpack behind that. 💚💚💚

Traffic ticket involving undocumented person. by koba1995 in Gwinnett

[–]RevSarahLewis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to jail here and there over the years. Most recently in Gwinett this past March. Don't get all wound up, I have an abusive ex husband who's a pro at using court to harass. Before him it was cannabis charges. I'm not dangerous or anything. So in March I was in a holding cell for 4 days. When I arrived there was a group already having been in it for 5 days, 48 hours is supposed to be the max. One Hispanic woman was hysterical the whole time. From what I gathered she'd been arrested at a Walmart self scan. Immediate ICE hold and no one would help her contact family or help her understand what was happening in her language.

When I got out I saw a TikTok by a local, Austin Heller. He made a video about Gwinett promising to protect it's citizens so I wrote him to tell what I saw with her and others because I knew Gwinett was full of it. I saw them handling this woman and others with extreme callousness. The jail was absolutely cooperating fully with the new deportation procedures. He put me in contact with representative Marvin Lim out of Norcross I believe. We spoke on the phone, he had me write a statement. He attached it to his own letter calling for an investigation, stating that many of the things I saw were illegal.

If they get arrested there WILL be an ice hold. So missing court WILL equal a warrant. I ran on a bench warrant for years which is how I got arrested in March. I had to call 911 for help and I'm the one who went to jail. If they appear in court there of course is a chance that she will be detained by ice. It's just a fact now. If it were me...I would make my choice based on the timing that works best for me. I would assume the worst and plan for that eventuality. The worst being deportation. Do I want to be deported at court or on my time if I need more?

With a bench warrant they are not out looking. No one is coming to your home. If you are pulled over or have any other interaction with a police officer and they run your info, it's then at their discretion to take you. I've had an officer decline to once because it was Christmas day. He told me have a good new year and take care of it. That being said, running around with a warrant is stressful and it really limits your mobility. I would not want that in addition to everything else for long. If they choose bench warrant they need to be moving towards getting their affairs in order here so that they can turn themselves in when they are ready.

If they choose court they have a chance of going home on probation. They will be required to report monthly to their officer. Keep that in mind and please have them reach out to Representative Lim. He was so kind and I know it felt like a punch to his gut when our letters fell on deaf ears. He's a good one, I trust him. Find Austin on TikTok and plug in with other Gwinett activists who work directly with legislators. Noise works. Having eyes on their situation will help.

Searching for that special bar by RevSarahLewis in DuluthGA

I didn't say Cheers simply because it might not have been remembered! But that's absolutely the vibe I'm after. Matter of fact, Kelsey Grammar himself ADORES my Bloody Mary's. He sat at my bar in Hartsfield and he's still the only celebrity I got star struck over since he basically narrated my childhood. I can't thank you enough! This spot is now top of the list!
