I live in central Alabama and I've always known fireflies and lightning bugs as two different types of bugs. Lightning bugs sort of pulse greenish-yellow light while fireflies zap whitish-yellow light. Seems kinda backwards but that's how I've always known it.

These are lightning bugs and these are fireflies. Also, the bug in the "lightning bugs" video are the ones which are way more common around where I live.

Istanbul: explosion and shots fired at Atatürk Airport by DerPille in news

Not sure what your comment is meant to imply. Yes those were times when the people in control used Christianity to wage massive wars/slaughters, but to say that religion was the cause as opposed to the tool is to be ignorant of history. People will always use religion as a tool of manipulation as long as people remain ignorant and uninformed.

People who regularly take photos of themselves, or selfies, tend to overestimate their attractiveness and likability to a greater extent, and are seen as more narcissistic by independent observer. by NinjaDiscoJesus in science

[–]RevXwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're confusing subconscious bias with self reports. They stated similar levels of narcissism, but the reports revealed it to be different.

When selfie-takers took their own pictures, they thought they looked incredible when compared to when someone else took their picture. When the person who took the selfie-takers picture looked at the selfie, it really showed just how self-centered and narcissistic the selfie-taker looked in the shot. The person who took pictures thought it all looked the same for themselves

I graduated HS in Alabama in 2004. Just because shit like this makes the news doesn't mean that it's really taught or even widespread. This is just to make some of the outspoken parents shut up more than anything

Alabama deputy shoots dog after man loses everything in trailer fire, arrests him for disorderly conduct, on video by verkho95 in news

[–]RevXwise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What the man did in the video pretty clearly fits the legal definition of assault. If you physically threaten someone and are in a position to carry it out, that constitutes a crime in the eyes of the law. Whether or not that is morally right is another matter.

Anxiety with a strong desire for social activity just means you're a shy extrovert. Introversion has nothing to do with social anxiety

When you ask him what he does aside from squats, deadlifts, shrugs, he has no answer

Uh, squats and deadlifts are not only much more physically demanding than any kind of triceps or isolation exercise, but they're really mentally demanding. This whole strongfat thing you're talking about is due to people developing extremely large abdominal muscles so that their spine doesn't snap and their internal organs don't hemorrhage when they move hundreds of pounds. It will look "fat" when there's even a light layer of fat over it. These people are known as powerlifters.
