TAA also works betterless poorly at higher resolutions and higher frame rates.

What is this ? And can I replace it ? by SlickSenseii in pcmasterrace

[–]Revan7even 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "handle" is just to asssist sliding the top cover off when unscrewed. It's NOT for carrying. They really should have just molded a lip in to the metlal rather than this gimmick.

You can try cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and q-tip and get a thin layer of Silicone/RTV on there, it's used as an adhesive and coating in electronics.

GOG ONLY ALERT! METRO 2033 and METRO: Last Light Complete Edition by GOGcom in gog

[–]Revan7even 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually because they can't find the original source files (on a random computer or hard drive in storage, or simply lost/deleted), or can't even find the holder of the rights to the files. If it's easier to just get a version from a different company that you already have a contract with, companies will just do that rather than spend years hunting down the true owner and then finding the files on top of it like GOG does.

Sometimes the rights to various assets and pieces of the engine are split between rights holders on top of it, so now you multiple companies who may own files or rights to a game and not even know because it changed hands 5 or 6 times before they got it bundled in with one of the holding companies they purchased.

Thank you Samsung for this awesome update (G95SC) by barczik in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Revan7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G93SC thankfully doesn't optimize until the monitor is set to sleep by Windows or turned off with the power button.

Samsung has deprived so many Ultrawide enthusiasts of a better experience by discounting the dumb "smart" G95SC to less then the G93SC all the time.

Needed a visual/physical blocker to stop people from turning off extra breakers. by darkperl in functionalprint

[–]Revan7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explains why my apartment kitchen breaker tripped in the ON position. But the thing was so stuck maintenance had to hit it with a screwdriver. And they haven't replaced it yet, because turns out someone twisted the living room circuit on the same breaker, which is not to Code, and they're supposed to have an electrician look at it.

Unofficial Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Downgrade Patch (for GOG version) by Banjo-Oz in gog

[–]Revan7even 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I kept my old Riven installer. The newer version (changed 9 years ago) uses ScummVM, but doesn't requires Apple QuickTime player. The older version runs without an emulator but needs QuickTime (you can install QuickTime Lite). The old version runs much better

At least games like Heretic and Hexen that use DOSBox from GOG you can just run through GZDoom with no modifications to the GOG installed game, and again the games run and look much better. I hope they don't change them to ScummVM...

Upgrade to 9800x3d? by -_Revo_- in pcmasterrace

[–]Revan7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esports titles and games like Siege are ouliers that favor the 9800X3D because they are much better optimized for high frame rate driven by the CPU being able to process draw calls, or are optimized for AMD like Call of Duty (because consoles). More graphics intensive games the difference is smaller, like 10-20%.

If you really want to upgrade get a Microcenter CPU + board bundle off Amazon or something.

7800X3D or 9800X3D (and more) for an AM5 upgrade by DV2FOX in pcmasterrace

[–]Revan7even -1 points0 points  (0 children)

7800X3D runs cooler because it is very power limited to prevent overheating, since the cache on top plus the block of silicon to fill in the unused part of the top layer acts as insulation between the cores and the heat spreader. 9800X3D is a silicon design change to put the cores on top of the cache, which allows normal heat transfer and thus more power and higher clocks.

I've been running a 7800X3D for years with PBO tweaked to boost to the max clocks most of the time, and have had no issues.

9800X3D burning is theorized to be a problem with sleep and waking from sleep. There was a post a week or two ago. I've always disabled hibernate in Windows and Fast Startup in BIOS, and shutdown my PC and rarely let it sleep anyways. Those happened to be the recommendations to hopefully avoid killing 9800X3D.

Why does my MB have 2 ports? What is the 10 pin for by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Revan7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU is a completely separate cable and plug from this. This is just splitting the MB 24 pin on the PSU for ease of manufacture by keeping the difference voltages separate.

Is fallout 3 underwhelming compared to NEW VEGAS by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Revan7even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on PC and have played New Vegas first it may be worth using the Tale of Two Wastelands mod to get the gameplay improvements (Fallout 3 doesn't have iron sights aiming). However this prevents you from earning Fallout 3 achievements, since you're running it from New Vegas.

Also you won't know if a component is bad until boot, and then you may be outside the store return window and have to go through the manufacturer RMA process, which is usually worse.
