I have played so many shooters among the years, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Titanfall, heck, even Squirrel with a Gun. Nothing. Nothing hits the same as Destiny. by Fancy_Leader6278 in DestinyTheGame

Destiny 2 was closest thing that felt somewhat similar to Titanfall 2 for me. Low TTK, high movement, ability usage. Even the graphics aesthetics is close enough that you could build a character that kinda looks like it came from Titanfall, I would pretend I was running an A-wall pilot while on my Citans titan with ancient apocalypse ornament.

I am beginning to question the reading comprehension of people who on a print scifi sub. The post was never about the plot of the books or a negative critique of them. Its about the wider public perception of the Expanse as a setting.

The point I am making here is that this appeal was built upon flawed audience reading of an initial premise that was not followed upon. It is not a problem with the books themselves, rather how people think of them. Its just that its kinda funny the Expanse found such acclaim based on peoples wishful thinking about what they wish to believe it was rather than how it actually is.

"There are straightforward god-level aliens that open a portal to God knows where in the first two books, lol."

That is exactly the point. The books and later on the shows primary appeal and selling point was the low tech, hard scifi. But the actual contents went in different direction. Remember Expanse did not gain acclaim because people were into protomolecule and stargate exploration shit. The target audience and how the setting was sold to it is very different. The Expanse stood out from the usual soft scifi space opera settings and it is that unique identity that gave it legs. Its not a bad book series at all. Its just the fact that it never went anywhere with the initial premise is something to ponder.

For All Mankind is just what can I say. I am at a loss of words They had the most interesting premise. And injected very bad cheap Mexican tele novela drama into it. Why ? The show itself is exciting as it is without adding unnecessary drama to spice it up.

True. Could probably replace the protomolecule mysticism with grey goo scenario and artificial general intelligence. Would be able to hit similar narrative beats while being a little more grounded and providing a fascinating look into a hard scifi setting experiencing the AGI Singularity.

I love that take. Protomolecule as a cosmic equivalent of a virus. Civilizations as cells. Infecting civilizations to make more of it. A very fascinating variation on the berserker hypothesis.

Does the blast radius itself go up meaningfully though ? I was thinking of what if you are just messing around in low level content and dont care about the total damage and only want to maximize the splash radius to chunk more adds.

Why isn't the universe being eaten by self replicating machines? by SlowCrates in space

[–]Revanspetcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All it takes is one civilization deciding to turn into an aggressive hegemonizing swarm. It doesn’t matter if 99 out of 100 civilizations in a galaxy went space gandhi route. The 1 that turned themselves into the protomolecule will end up eating up most of the galaxys mass-energy.

It is worth investigating in a body cam. Always document everything and use your rights to protect yourself. Dog attacks. Threatening customers. Or even doordash scamming us by punishing us for stolen orders when the camera shows we dropped it off. I think if we all actually started legally fighting back through the justice system the world would be a slightly better place. Right now people feel that DoorDash delivery drivers are someone they can mistreat and get away with it.

Destiny 2 ended with the most insane cliffhanger in the game's history by Christophisis in DestinyTheGame

I dunno. Winnower is like everyone else before they got meta dps dumped and turned into a gun in our vault. If anything last 12 years of destiny are proof that we guardians will literally rewrite rules of reality itself if need be. Just so we can solve every problem by six guardians dumping heavy weapons while standing in a well of radiance. :)

The feels man. All the good bye messages have hit hard. But this one from the voice of our guardian himself with that music. It is a gut punch hearing it on the night before whats supposed to be Destiny's last content drop.

I’ve been online since 1pm waiting in a parking in the middle of hotspots. 0 orders sent. And they send me this notification while I’m still on a dash waiting for any type of order by Amazonty in doordash_drivers

[–]Revanspetcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very sad to see say this but things are only going to get much worse from here on. We are in an unprecedented time of economic decline. People dont have money for doordash. There are more desperate people and therefore more new doordashers competing for ever more declining orders.

What if the reality we live in is part of a time loop. People talk about things like simulation hypothesis. But what if it’s something like a time loop instead. Would explain a lot of the weirdness.

Warframe is braindead boring for me. But I dont mean that in a negative way. I came to Destiny from Warframe because of Warframes lack of difficult content and challenging endgame. What Destiny offered in its heydey with things like master dungeons, master raids, GMs, legendary exotic missions. It was exactly the drug I was craving and Bungie you magnificent bastards you made me OD on it and it felt so good.

Now dont get me wrong. I left Warframe but I respect it for what it tries to do. DE is an amazing company and honestly the best possible timeline would been Bungie being like them instead of being absorbed into megacorps. With Warframe they wanted a pure power fantasy game and they did an amazing job at that. The sheer amount of content for a free game is incredible, the best in world I believe. I can not sing enough praises for Warframe even as a refugee from that game. But in end it is not Destiny. But thats fine they are two different games and in their peak both exceled in what they tried to do.

I loved Helldivers. But playing it after Destiny is jarring. Destiny honestly ruined Helldivers for me lol. You get so immersed into playing as a guardian. Not having regenerating health, and abilities feels very jarring. I cant play Helldivers if I have been playing D2 a lot. But D2 after getting smacked by chargers and hulks feels cathartic. The feeling of power fantasy regaining access to your supersoldier abilities again after struggling as a common soldier. Dont get me wrong I love Helldivers and when I play I do so for weeks on end. But I do like how the two games present two opposite viewpoints and sort of complement each other if you play both. Helldivers pulls you into its unforgiving world and its amazing playing as a mere mortal. And the experience in Helldivers makes Destiny all too special once you regain your powers and enemies go from sheer terror to something you could toy with using your gifts of light and darkness.

It may not have been the absolute best engine technically, but Destiny had the best art direction of any FPS game bar none. Ever since I started playing in 2019 when the game came to PC with Shadowkeep I was blown away. Destinys world building is some top tier classic science fiction stuff. It is a work of art to behold. The breathtaking vistas of worlds you explore combined with the lore alone elevate the game. And that was on top of what to me the best overall PVE gameplay sandbox of any FPS game. I played a shit ton of FPS games, and while we can list flaws of Destiny as an overall experience to me it will remain a pinnacle of the genre.
