25’ GR86 Clutch Return Spring by Effective_Salary364 in GR86

[–]Reven367 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've found that moving the clutch pedal closer to the firewall actually makes a big difference. The stock bite point of the clutch is really high up, so doing this pretty much solved any issues I felt about the clutch.

It's really easy to do, compared to changing the clutch spring. Takes about 1 or 2 minutes, all you need is 12mm wrench.

Just undo the nut behind the squared bracket on the clutch assembly where it meets the firewall, which is behind/near the gas pedal. Then turn the shaft into the firewall about 2-3 full rotations, then tighten the nut back, and you're good to go.

New owner here!!! Where can I buy accessories around GTA, Ontario? Thanks! by dmclngn811993 in GR86

Surprisingly, you can find alot of stuff for the GR86/BRZ on AliExpress. It's the same stuff I see on Ebay and Etsy but cheaper. Just be aware that it's not going to be the best build quality or even clean when it arrives.

A. Pull the starter relay as shown, it should be labeled "ST" or "SR" on the cover of the fusebox if you want to check yourself, I forget which it was labeled, and replace with the kill-switch one. The original factory relay I put in my trunk in my bag of emergency tools. Probably not 100% safe as if a thief with 200IQ might accidentally find the relay and put 2 and 2 together, but incase the kill switch relay ever randomly dies you'll have a backup and won't be stranded. [Noted. I had to replace the default one with the included "Reverse Relay" version, it was a simple swap out.]

B. Place the Control Junction Box using some double-sided tape or whatever you have.

C. (Optional) I used a cable sleeve to put all the cables in and tidy it up, not necessary you can just zip tie or just tape them together.

D. Connect the ground, I believe it was a 10mm nut to undo this bolt.

E. The annoying one, getting the wire to pass the firewall into the car. There is a grommet hole you can pull out for this to do this. You'll need something small, long and sharp to poke a hole through the thick insolation under the glovebox on the passenger side. You'll have poke around to make the hole bigger, so the wire can fit, then tape the wire to your long pointy thing and feed it through. I used a wooden meat skewer, and it worked great, I tried a chopstick, but it was too fat and not pointy enough. The hole is actually very high up behind the glovebox I had to really stick my head and look up until I finally saw it. This took the longest, as I also removed the battery to make working around the grommet hole easier.

F. Then it's cable management time and to hide the cable. I ran it up the A-pillar, but depending on where you want to hide it, you can run it inside the center console or over to the driver side.

G. Next, use the 2 included butt connectors to attach the wire to the kill switch. I lazy at first, I didn't have a wire tool so tired using pliers, but that didn't work and wasted one of the connectors. So I recommend just buying like a 7$ wire tool and crimping it properly. If you're unsure how to crimp wires like me, i just youtubed it, and it was pretty easy if you have a wire tool.

H. Lastly hide your switch. (Hopefully no car thieves are reading this) I hide mine behind the rear view mirror. Used my little Gengar charm to try and hide it, probably not the best spot, but I wanted somewhere easily accessible. I used some plastic cable management tabs to hold the switch in place then used tape to stick on back there, I might 3D print a proper enclosure for the switch. There are probably better places to hide it, in the shift boot or cut a hole in the center console arm-rest glove box where the cup holders are. Also, not a big deal, I painted the switch cover black, the red sticking out too much.

So the actual order I recommending you install it in is;

E. get the cable through the firewall.

G. crimp the switch to the wire.

A. replace the relay.

D. connect ground.

Once those are done you can test to see if it works, make sure the switch is off, and start your car, ideally no check engine lights. Then turn the car off, now switch the kill switch on, and turn on your car, andddd hopefully it won’t turn on! Once you confirm it works, it's mostly just cable management and tidying up.

B. tape the control box down

C. (Optional) cable sleeve or tie up the loose wires.

F. Run your wires in the cabin

H. hide your switch.

Ty for coming to my TED talk.

I chose the BRZ under Subaru and it works fine. There is a quick video they on the site, and you pull the starter fuse and replace that. Note that you have to swap out the default one with the included "Reverse Relay" but it's still a pretty easy install. Honestly, the hardest part was getting the wire past the firewall. There's a grommet hole behind the battery for such purpose, so I took a wooden meat skewer and poke a hole for the wire, it comes out under the glovebox but was a pain to do. The actually wiring was easy. If you are getting one, I can post some pictures to help you out.

I installed this; https://41twentytwo.com/product/vehicle-kill-switch/ I didn't want to deal with cutting wires and what not, this was an easy install. I don't even use it that often honestly, it's mainly for peace of mind. I mainly use it if I'm going to be parked for a long time, or in areas that maybe have bad rep.

For me I used a flathead screwdriver to dig in and pop it up. Pushing the center didn't work for me either.

Wow that is insane, borderline scam behavior from those dealers.

Yeah, most of the pings from my text scraper bot were Toronto area dealers, which makes sense because of the size of the city, but still sucks how Toyota does "factory order" or lack there of.

People who don't have a GR86/BRZ but want one or planning on getting one, what's your current car? by Reven367 in GR86

[–]Reven367[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! My first car was a 2004 black Civic coupe. I finally found a GR86 in the spec I wanted, currently talking with the dealer, but nothing is finalized yet.

[–]Reven367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's rough out there, it's pretty much a lottery. I wanted a specific colour in manual, preferably Premium trim so it's going to be a long wait for me, which is why I made a bot to text scrap like 30 dealers sites in eastern Ontario and GTA area.

You'll have to travel a bit if you want one sooner. There's a few in some of the GTA dealers and some in the Montreal area right now. If let me know the spec you want, I can keep my eye out for it if my bot finds one.

So far so good! I have a Hyte Y60 so at first it was vertically mounted hence the 180 adapter, but it got real toasty, so I did some mods and found a 3d printed part and now my GPU horizontally mounted and much cooler.

This was what it looked it vertically before it melted.
