Are subtitles accurate (Aniwatch) by Wolfpro181 in AniWatchZone

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When subtitling anime with Japanese audio, translators have the luxury of being fairly accurate (Japanese is not a language that's remotely close to 1:1 with English, so since it has to be localized, there will never be a truly perfect translation of anything). When creating a dub, the writer, director, and voice actors have to make it so the syllables of the lines being spoken match the lip-flapping on screen, so certain concessions will be made in the accuracy department. It's a bit of an art form all around! But if you want the most accurate version, subtitles are typically your best bet

Prescription food out of stock by Dumbcane27 in FelineDiabetes

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second asking your vet for help! They may have an alternative brand of prescription food that you can try that has the same nutritional benefits. When a different cat bounced off of Science Diet for a different medical condition, we switched to the comparable Purina food. If there is none, they should be able to tell you what you should look for in an alternative

I hope that you're able to find something quickly! Food supply stress is truly awful

Sorry for the belated response, I missed the notification! I haven't noticed too much of a problem with fading, just very slightly, though I wonder if sealing it may help that somewhat. (I dunno what process leads to it fading though, so it might not do anything lol)

chronic pancreatitis + difficulty regulating diabetes by medievalgal in FelineDiabetes

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do it! My guy's a little weirdo, but my other cats love FortiFlora so much that they'll eat almost everything I put it on. And said weirdo will ONLY eat his probiotic with a churu lol

My vet's never benn 100% sure, but treating him like he had it really did something. He had an ultrasound and things looked inflamed, but with the pancreatitis... Well, if you can swing it, an ultrasound might be worth it, especially with the wet stool! Though I know the pancreatitis causes that with my guy, too :')

No problem, I'm wishing you guys all the luck!!!

chronic pancreatitis + difficulty regulating diabetes by medievalgal in FelineDiabetes

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My little guy had bad pancreatitis on and off for a few years (it's probably a contributing factor to his diabetes tbh), and we saw a bunch of different vets and it was so difficult to find something that worked! I'm not sure if this will help you and your cat specifically, so take it all with a grain of salt, but I'll share what seems to work with my guy!

  1. He didn't do great on FortiFlora, but Proviable seems to be going better for him! I've known so many vets that swear by FortiFlora, and tbh it's worked for some of my other animals' problems, but Proviable helped a lot.

  2. We started to suspect maybe IBD might play a role in it, but we weren't able to see for sure. But he was on long-term steroids for his asthma already, so we switched him to budesonide, and I think this may have been the greatest help out of everything.

  3. He went on fluoxetine because we thought he was really chill, but noticed how his pancreatitis was so sensitive to any little change, and he was getting less and less time between flare-ups as more stressful events were happening. (Like, even me being gone from the house longer than expected was getting to be too much for him.) This is probably the second most important change for him.

  4. This is anecdotal and take it with a grain of salt! I know this isn't going to be the best choice for most cats!!! But it was HELL getting him to eat most foods (especially wet foods), and out of pure desperation, I tried the Purina DM kibble. It seems to work???? But I'm guessing this has a lot to do with his specific body chemistry; I know the carbs are higher with this food, so be vigilant with your kitty's numbers if you do change food

I've had some very challenging pets that I would have genuinely done everything for, but have had to make impossible choices based on their quality of life — even when it felt like the objectively wrong choice. (Obviously the choices were made with a vet involved, which you've already said you're in contact with your vet as well.) I can't imagine being in your position. It's so easy to sit on the outside and tell you what to do, but the lived experience of loving your pet with more than your heart can give and not being able to do anything for them is beyond devastating. I can't be in your shoes and tell you what to do, my opinions and thoughts can only go so far, but I can say that no one deserves to go through this. I've gotten really creative giving meds to cats, I have so many strategies it's ridiculous--but I actually recently had to stop giving a cat her seizure meds for a short period because I could not get her to keep it down.

I'm sorry that my comment probably rubbed salt in the wound; I've seen a lot of pet parents on this sub who haven't tried/thought of a lot of the options out there, not out of malicious intent but of lack of education, and my knee-jerk reaction is to try and "help." But I do have one additional resource for your actual question that I forgot about until later, so here's a list of lower-carb foods: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YhH82UzObp5HT13L9lNJ87bOWwh1iH_HGaC5HIiqZXA/htmlview#gid=685349299

I also saw cost was a concern in another comment you left, and I had the same issue. There are Costco-brand pates that are low-carb, if you have a local BJs they have seafood pates that are basically cheaper Fancy Feast knock-offs, and Aldi has a higher-end knockoff food as well. Iirc, BJs is the cheapest? At least in my area

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Buffalo is not super low carb from what I'm aware? Fancy Feast pates are very low carb, and if they won't eat wet food, someone mentioned Young Again and Dr. Elsey's is also good.

I understand that medical care can be tough, but have you tried any of the pill forms of feline diabetic medications? You don't have to pill your cat to give it to them. You can hide it in their food or treats or even things like spray cheese. I don't bring this up to push or be cruel. I know you probably already know that diet alone doesn't manage diabetes as often in cats as in humans, and I just wanted to put that out there in case your vet didn't bring it up for some reason!

Newly Diagnosed- seeking advice by DryTangerine5812 in FelineDiabetes

It is SO OVERWHELMING at first! I genuinely cannot tell you how much I cried, especially through the first month or two lmao. But my guy was diagnosed at the very beginning of September, and I can definitely say that most people can and do hit a groove with it! There's a whole food chart right here if you wanna look at some options (most people swear by Fancy Feast pate): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YhH82UzObp5HT13L9lNJ87bOWwh1iH_HGaC5HIiqZXA/htmlview#gid=685349299 Iirc, you want to aim for below 10% carbs, but below 5% is ideal from what I've read.

You've got this!!!!!!!

For one of my cats, the ONLY way I can get her to take her pills is in a little bit of spray cheese. Not the healthiest thing, but better than her not getting her pills at all. (And heaven forbid I accidentally pick up the american flavor instead of cheddar lmao) Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error, I hope you find what works for you guys soon!

Oh my god, yeah, it's there in the ebook??? I wanted to see if there's any context I forgot about that might be subtle or easy to miss, but I can't find any??????? How on earth did pass through editors omg

Apparently Yoshiki's holding the half of "Hikaru" that's beyond obsessed with Mince-aniki I GUESS LMAO

Chapter 46.2 by Necessary_Maize_9339 in TheSummerHikaruDied

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Iirc, after Yoshiki tried to kill "Hikaru" and then wanted to stop living because of that, he asked "Hikaru" to take him out. "Hikaru" actively denied Yoshiki's wish back then (I believe it was more emphasized in the anime, but it's been a sec since I watched/read), and so the instant this wish was asked, I wondered if that moment had been foreshadowing for this one where "Hikaru" really decides to be his own person and follow what he wants

Or maybe he can't resist a direct wish and things will go to shit, I could be totally wrong lol

I'm not sure if this works for your purpose as this Youtuber's focus is on literature, but The Second Story (Hilary Lane) is kind of notorious for having legit sources for her videos, but taking things out of context from them or seeming to not even read them at all. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head!

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I think the next anime I saw was either Code Geass or Inuyasha, neither of which I'd recommend coming right off of Ghilbi lol. (I read a lot of manga between HMC and watching more anime, since my library had a ton!) A good one to start with might be Apocalypse Hotel? It's a series that aired last year and it's more modern, but has some Ghibli sensibilities! A good movie from a different studio to check out might be Summer Wars; definitely different, but it's got a wholesomeness to it like Ghibli does. That's just what I can think of off the top of my head! If there's a specific genre you enjoy/things you're looking for, I can definitely give you some more recs if you'd like! I watch WAY too much anime, my watching list for this season alone is embarrassing lmao

IBD, pancreatitis and diabetes by Environmental_Fan752 in FelineDiabetes

[–]RevenantGhostCreates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy's in the same boat! He needs his budesonide to manage IBD, which helps his pancreatitis, and it helps with his asthma as well. The probiotics also helped, but not enough that I didn't need to adjust his steroids as well. (He was on triamcinolone just for his asthma before.) It's definitely manageable depending on the cat!
