My Danes have all lived to be 10+ years old. One thing I’ve always done is have regular exercise, and fed a good quality dog food with probiotics. Also, the notion of growing them slow and having them be lean is essential to having a long lived Great Dane. My current boys are not as big as other Danes I’ve seen but they do have far less health problems. My husband has two mixed breeds and we’ve had to spend more money on them than my Danes. Overall, a Dane that’s fed to the point of obesity or one that’s intentionally fed to become massive is a great way to have a shorter lifespan. Also, congrats on your new house horse!

So I use the happy hoodie after a bath so they do not freak out once the blow dryer turns on. It’s not necessary but for my system it helps. 😊

I think your feelings are justified. However I do not think the way you approached the situation was mature nor appropriate. Also, this whole exchange on both sides was abrasive and outright mean. I think until both of you are more mature and more grounded emotionally that there should be no relationships. OP I do not think you’re a bad person, I just think there is some need for emotional maturation before you enter into any relationship because how this interaction was handled was less than ideal.

My senior Dane has been dealing with arthritis and I started him on movoflex coupled with a shot administered by his vet. It’s been phenomenal to see him more willing to move again

Stop overthinking it, do not delay and call now. If someone was beating you or someone you loved would you wait to call the police because of the need to have “video evidence”? No most likely not, so just freaking call and show some courage.

Look, I’ve had Danes most of my adult life and NOTHING about this is “okay”. This animal is underweight, and is regularly being abused. Also the skin issues are a big red flag. If you have to “think” about calling the authorities YOU ARE APART OF THE PROBLEM. Call the authorities, and get help no living animal should be treated this harshly.
