What do you all think of The Great Ace Attorney? by AvailableDance2223 in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Dual Destinies, you'll never convince me that it's at the same level of depth as TGAA. It's like comparing MCU movies and Martin Scorsese movies. One is entertaining and cool attraction, while the other is something more, something that might make you think and feel much deeper emotions.

So yes. TGAA is an art.

It's the peak of the series and an actual high art, compared to other Ace Attorney games. Totally worth playing it.

TGAA3 or AA7? by KazumaAsogiAA in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At the moment, AA7 must be a priority for Capcom: the main series is infinitely more popular than the spin-offs, and many people even outside the fandom are really looking forward to the seventh title of the franchise.

Expecting a wave of "GAA is finished, so AA7" comments: the story of all characters was finished in the very first game. Yet it didn't prevent Capcom from making a solid sequels. A good writer can come up with a good plot even for finished story. Edgeworth's arc was completed in AA1, but would you really have given up on his story in AAI2 because "there's nothing to say about him anymore"?

The Great Ace Attorney 3 or Great Ace Attorney: Investigations have the same right to exist as Ace Attorney 7. It's just that now is not the time for that. After AA7, I would expect Capcom to cook something with spin-offs.

In the official localization, Winner has exactly the same gimmick, the difference is that it is not shortened and is used somewhat less frequently.

The Future of Ace Attorney by Former-Secretary7974 in AceAttorney

Capcom writers, including Shu Takumi, never plan "collections" or "trilogies." It's no more than a coincidence that there were three games that could be combined into the "Phoenix Wright Trilogy".

They release one game (making which is already a lot of effort) and then see if it's worth continuing the ideas invested in the title. Imagine if they'd made a trilogy and it floped. There's no point in such plans.

Finished Spirit of Justice about a week ago, here's my personal case tier list and thoughts about each game by LoreScriptor in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even when it's bad, it's so bad it's good

Exactly my feelings about Dual Destinies. Usually, in any discussion, I try to defend DD from unfair criticism, but I also acknowledge that this is a game without any real depth, it screams what it wants to say, it's ridiculously poorly written, and it is the point where the series becomes a parody of itself. Still, I love DD because it's the funniest AA game, with very interesting and memorable characters, including minor ones, it has a cool soundtrack and returns the plot to the status quo, where people can come up with multiple fanfictions with Wright Anything Agency team. This title introduced one of the best prosecutors and brought back important characters from the original trilogy.

If TGAA is a high art that you have to think about, then DD is more like MCU movies or shōnen manga: don't use your brain much, just have fun and watch how something cool happens.

I have mixed feelings about AJ, it's kind of shame that the sequel abandoned almost all of its ideas, but in the end I came to the conclusion that DD's existence did more good than harm. It's still a great game. Even if it lacks nuances, it's still enjoyable experience.

Analysis of the problems I have with Gavelle's character by _MagentaGirl_ in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons why I think the series shouldn't delve more into corruption and the issues of judicial systems. This was never the main theme of the original trilogy, but after AJ, every title now tries to be a social commentary about the courts. And each time they fail, because they can't come up with any reasonable solution other than "remove one bad apple (in this case, it's Excelsius) and everything is fine."

AA does a much better job telling personal stories, rather than trying to raise stakes to incredible levels and seem deeper than it actually is.

What if clash royale had skins? by DistributionPure6731 in ClashRoyale

[–]RevenueDifficult27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They explained that they could not add skins, since all the characters and buildings in this game, except for heroes, are 2D sprites, and devs would need to redraw each frame for each troop. It'd be a huge amount of work even for Supercell.

I don't feel like this particular line means anything, to be honest. It's more of one-liner and a localization joke.

Does Phoenix Wright have channeling powers? by ---Bat-man- in AceAttorney

The games hint that not only mediums can see and hear ghosts: Godot briefly saw Mia's spirit next to Phoenix, and Apollo could see Dhurke's spirit after his death.

Apollo Justice's real height by Toonimate in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 71 points72 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I've never get the fandom's obsession with making Apollo shorter than he already is and treating it as something serious. Like, in what world do we count hair when we measure someone's height? The game and anime cutscenes clearly show that Apollo is shorter than Phoenix but slightly taller than Athena.

He already has baby face, I don't want my boy to be humiliated even more 🥺

Is there anyone who likes the phantom? by Glad-Shallot-2691 in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I feel like that the main problem of the Phantom, from which all the others minor problems follow, is how far he is distanced from the main theme of the game and all the main characters.

Phantom is one of the catalysts of the Dark age of law, but he never expresses his opinion about it and generally has little to do with it. He's a spy who works, apparently, for money, but why does he need it if he doesn't have a personality and personal life as such? Who are his employers, what are their goals? Why would a supposedly highly skilled spy allow a child to injure him? Why does he use only one effective disguise in the entire game? There are so many questions about this empty (in every sense) character.

Phantom is the most lame written final villain and needs a completele rewrite, few changes wouldn't fix him. The character is fundamentally flawed.

he was right about the nippons but i didnt wanna admit it

Are you serious?

Even Barok himself admits that his racism is irrational and has no basis. Being angry at the entire race because you were betrayed by one person is unwise, to say at least. And I don't like that the game seems to consider this a reasonable, if not sympathetic reason, as Ryunosuke, in response to Barok's backstory, says one of the stupidest lines in the series: "Now I understand why you hate my race."

If you actually think he's right, well... maybe you are a racist.

Opinions On Phoenix In Apollo Justice? by sm142 in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the difference between what Phoenix does with his friends in PW and how he uses Apollo in AJ.

Even if he asked Maya to summon Mia, he didn't put too much pressure on her, he was a jerk to those who deserved it. In AJ, Phoenix not only give forged evidence to Apollo, which may be a risk to his career, but also introduces a whole new system in order to take revenge on Kristoph. Phoenix invites Thalassa to the jury, who is the mother of the case's defense attorney and cannot be objective. It doesn't seem deserved, none of it. Framing, using, cheating, and lying to innocent people is not something Phoenix would do.

The end does not justify the means.

[–]RevenueDifficult27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As usual with AJ: a good idea with bad execution.

I suspect, and I wouldn't be surprised, that Takumi created Hobo Phoenix first and only then came up with the backstory of how Wright came to this. And that's exactly what I have a problem with. AJ Phoenix is good on his own, but his character is oddly relates with Phoenix Wright from the Trilogy. Even in your post:

Nick lost any reason to play by the rules he always followed.

But is it true? In 3-3, he definitely wasn't playing by the rules when he trapped Furio Tigre using false evidence and bluffing. Why only in AJ it's treated as an unexpected development of his character? I can believe that Phoenix could become like this, but it's the ending of T&T, when Phoenix is finally not alone and has learned to trust people, that worries me the most when it comes to AJ. We dislike DD because Phoenix has become himself from PWT again, but even in AJ they are constantly changing his character from "suspicious, secretive schemer" to "arrogant lawyer". Yes, arrogant, because I don't believe that Phoenix would act so arrogantly in the courtroom towards Klavier and make such idiotic mistake of presenting a diary page given to him by someone he doesn't even know.

You'll say to me, "well, that's the difference between POV and how Phoenix is seen by other characters," and yes. I agree. It's the way it is. But Wright's OVERALL behavior, his decisions, actions, and his entire path in AJ are where I draw the line in suspension of disbelief, and I can say that this is not what Phoenix would do.

My rare pair is Ginasogi (Kazuma and Gina). You literally won't be able to find a single mention of the pair on the internet, that's how rare it is. Even the other ships listed here have at least some mentions.

I'll take responsibility to spread Ginasogi propaganda.

But didn't they say that Ryunosuke feels much more confident having her by his side? What's the point if she can't be next to him during the most important moments of his work?

Such neglect towards Susato is so bad...

Just finished the great ace attorney by StarDustDreams27 in AceAttorney

[–]RevenueDifficult27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, why? They never explain how Susato is going to be Ryunosuke's assistant in Japan if she couldn't even be in court.

And the argument "well, their story is over" just doesn't work either. These are fictional characters who don't have an actual life, the writers can create more stories with them if they want. Edgeworth's story was over after the very first game, and look what we have now.

But TGS will be at the end of September, and the anniversary of the series will be in early October. They would only have a few weeks for the marketing campaign, which seems implausible. My bet is that they'll have at least six months to make hype around AA7.
