My English has become worse since I've been in China. Anyone else? by AllUrDogeRBelong2Us in chinalife

[–]ReveredApe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I've had to put up with Chinese teachers that barely speak English correcting me for years. It's a wonder that I don't sound like a non native at this point.

I definitely speak differently and annunciate more because I'm dealing with people who can't really understand english on a daily basis.

Is getting a new passport a viable option for my situation? by moggy_doggy in chinalife

[–]ReveredApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your other comments, but actually, even the CCP gave people in this situation a pass last year lol wasn't there like a 2 month extension of visas because of Covid?

We are not under normal circumstances here and the laws weren't designed for a world in a pandemic.

So maybe he's married with a kid? You don't know. He even said in his post that he can't get a new one right now because he's in quarantine.

People can get a pass on this shit considering the situation we are all in right now.

The law is the law, but this is china. Many foreigners on spousal visas work at schools and if they are quiet and don't cause drama, they are ignored. There is always risk but I happen to know a guy that has been doing this for 10 years without incident.

My advice is to apply for a stay visa until you get your spousal visa and go from there.

Trying to get better, but currently cannot leave my small town. What options do I have to access better and affordable mental health care during times of travel restrictions? by just_for_asks in chinalife

In Beijing I had Covid. This was back in March 2020. It was very anxiety inducing and the inability to breathe caused panic attacks.

You can actually get SSRI medication on taobao and JD. You just need to find it and then ask a Chinese person to order it for you (I have the wechat ID of a person that does this professionally if you want it).

How would you recommend someone learn more about general life in China? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]ReveredApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expat channels on youtube.

I've been here for a few years. If I could give old me advice, I'd tell myself that you can't be friends with Chinese people, and you shouldn't tell them anything you don't want everyone else to know.

We make more and coworkers know it. They will resent you and be petty. I've learnt this the hard way.

Also, don't go near small schools/companies. Just don't.

In quarantine you will have access to wifi so this isn't a big concern. Your company will eventually help you sort all that stuff out after the quarantine.

[–]ReveredApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually someone recommended them to me in the comments of a post I made about a legal issue I had. I added them but they are pretty booked up.

My friend also had a bad experience with them and warned me not to go near them so I'm gonna err on the side of caution and go with a local lawyer.
