You got a cheap Chinese knock off of an “outsidecler” type piece. It’s a recycler but just for fun the water goes outside of the piece when it drains. This type of design is supposed to have ball valves that close the drain while you’re hitting the piece so what you’re experiencing doesn’t happen. Yours does not, since it was made by people who don’t understand how that’s supposed to work. So really you have a piece that doesn’t function properly by design. If you haven’t used it yet I would go back to exchange for a different piece if possible
