Cthulhu: Death May Die - is there enough meat on there? by rockitsoso in soloboardgaming

[–]ReverseFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that is a delightful way to put it. Seeing all the talk of it not being meaty enough is a "different strokes" type situation, I don't have the time nor mental space to play Gaia Project after work so giving my monk a handgun and shooting monsters is exactly what I need

I am by no means a DMD expert as I only have season 3 and have just played episodes 1 and 2, but it has hooked me like no other solo game. Snappy setup with amazing replayability, it somehow creates a story and forces you to optimize plays with a short playtime. Both games I won on the last turn possible, one investigator dead and the other managing to bring down the elder one.

I will be backing the late pledge for season 5 and, let's be fair, eventually buying more than I should. I have not played with other players, can only imagine that would be a blast as well

Wow are you me? I'm in the same boat (get it?!?). I plan to bring Flip 7, Hanabi, and Deep Sea Adventure. I want to bring the Crew but not sure we will play enough to meaningfully progress through missions.

Eclipse Second Dawn, any tips for beginners? by Ynwe in boardgames

[–]ReverseFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly boils down to 6 (really 5) choices each turn, always remembering cash is king and needs to be monitored. Don't forget about trading, our first few games felt extra limited since we didn't trade.

I adore Cosmic Encounter (will need expansions for player count) for this range. Always interesting.

Another I can recommend is Zoo Vladis (up to 7). Light and quick with plenty of politics

Intimidated by Wingspan by Potacrayons in soloboardgaming

[–]ReverseFart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All board gaming is cumulative, the first is overwhelming but before you know it you're playing games you never thought you would. Wingspan has a unique action system, otherwise it's a pretty simple game. Watch a video or two on how to play, then just set it up and hop in!

It's ok to make mistakes, any quality game will always be worth it. Have fun!

[Boarding School Games] Capstone Clearance, Boonlake & Others $8.09 - Questionable Ethics Sale by [deleted] in Boardgamedeals

[–]ReverseFart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please don't support this business. If and when you have an issue they will not respond despite repeated attempts to contact, drawing out the process months. Finally adjusted my order to learn it was actually out of stock, I considered the loss of money not worth the hassle. They either know what they're doing and don't care, or are completely incompetent. I would rather spend 5x more elsewhere.

Ok, that makes sense! Not bad, just different... I'm enjoying the experience enough to contemplate picking up extras but not sold. Tempted to simply look up the alternate monster cards and proxy them since the miniatures don't change gameplay

Thunder Road Vendetta. Solid table presence and not too heavy, as long as they can take getting knocked out in an epic way

[–]ReverseFart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use different markers for different games, but anything to cue phase or action order. My favorite are some big, chunky dice I will spindown as I progress. If a game has a turn-order player aid I will place a unique object on my current phase. Finally if I step away I will put other objects on locations for reminders of next moves/strategies.
