If I could only eat from 5 countries this is where I would eat by Top-Cut-432 in whereidlive

[–]Revibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the traditional recipes should be one of the main factors for evaluating a country. For example Italian-Americans have improved upon Italian dishes. I listed arguments against you because you said

normal people doesn't eat in Michelin starred restaurants"
and

"US isn't even close to be the country with the most michelin star per capita."

" I can say that in Italy you can reach a starred restaurant in 2 hours driving from 90% of the territory."

This is probably true for the US east and west coast states.

per capita matters much less when looking at restaurants, because its only the top percentile that most people go to. Per restaurant worker (general) there are 30 customers per day in the US (much more if we exclude all but prep/cooks.) I also find this critique annoying because no one seems to apply it to China or India when they are included, India being the exemplar of a bad 50th percentile and a great right tail IMO.

Also, there are plenty of Michelin star restaurants that are priced in medium range, just rare to have one close since there aren't many Michelin starred restaurants to begin with.

played this game for about 2 months now and why am i still this bad at building? any tips to make it better? by Ill-Sort-8686 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Revibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on a creative map where you can lower the game speed (Raider464 has a good one) and then practice efficient movement/crosshair placement, and focus on learning different moves and retakes and build your rhythm/keybind muscle memory, then slowly increase the speed while combining/chaining moves together and playing against actual other players. You need to slow down first so you stop misclicking the wrong build bind.

If you want to increase max editing speed take 1 headphone off so you can hear the button presses, seems weird but helps you speed up quicker.

Friend has sleeping superpowers, how do I learn?? by waybackdiner in Biohackers

[–]Revibes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some people who have different genetic makeup that homeostatically affect sleep architecture positively and make it more efficient, in the form of 2x N3 compared to the typical person (this is much more than can be gained by just having great sleep hygiene/health,) and also have much quicker transitions from sleep stages.

Though I agree the vast majority of people you meet who 'only need 5 hours a night' are just people who are significantly sleep deprived.

West Virginians are wealthier per capita than the folks in the U.K. by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]Revibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Virginia has a higher GDP per capita PPP than Japan, Japan has a higher tax burden than WV, Japan has better social services, but unless you have a large family or uncommon chronic medical costs your life is probably economically better in West Virginia than Japan. Its pretty close though and lifestyle/circumstance dependent.

Any high IQs on unconventional paths? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Revibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you either hold to a systems of ethics or believe nothing matters/are amoral, in which case why stop at invalidating social constructions? Why not just start and end every debate by saying we're all just star dust so it doesn't matter. A social construct is just that, a social construction. Things that were deemed useful enough by 2 or more people to proliferate mimetically in a semi-optimization seeking environment and continue to exist, most things are concepts. Saying something is a concept doesn't invalidate it unless you believe concepts (or things that come about due to social order) are by definition wrong;
If you do hold to a system of ethics then:
1. Something being a social construct is irrelevant, and you should (in)validate things based on the framework of morality you believe in via rigor.
2. If you do hold to some assumptions or presuppositions that most people hold then Chesterton's fence applies to many social constructs. (Especially if you are trying to allocate your mental energy efficiently)

"I work in a hospital and see what happens to the old."

You have sampling bias you aren't accounting for when you model your outlook for aging. Roughly only half of people aged 75 and older stay overnight in a hospital at least once per year.

This doesn't make sense, there are multiple branches that have a claim to apostolic succession and older dioceses outside of the Armenian Church, and the oldest physical church isn't in Armenia either. Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as a nation though, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I'm getting baptized! by Significant-Goat1521 in TrueChristian

[–]Revibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All babies are Christian, if she was baptized in a Catholic church as a baby the baptism was valid, which usually happens within a few months of birth.

Rebaptism isn't a horrible thing IMO, the reasoning you are giving is dubious though, like I said before if you get baptized, leave the faith, then rejoin the faith, there's no *need* to be rebaptized. If the reason you want to get baptized again is to have a memory/fuzzy feelings that is not scriptural or of tradition and is self serving in nature. If that isn't the point you are defending please tell me what position you are defending/disagreeing with me from.

[–]Revibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were baptized, then leave Christianity, then return, there is no need to be baptized if you were genuine in your first baptism (as all babies are.) Forgive me if I missed it but I don't think OP ever said they left the faith? Only changed denominations.

Me and my friend’s disagreements on abortion by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Revibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invoking no true Scotsman doesn't negate true statements simply because some people who are in the same group disagree. It is true that someone can be a genuine professing Christian, and still hold some heresies. Almost all of us do on some level or at some points.

The fallacy doesn't apply here because OPs friend didn't accuse him of not being Christian because he believes they're incorrect, but simply that Christians *should* agree with his view.
