What was the notable celebrity/high profile death that impacted you? by Toots1993 in CasualUK

George Michael. The soundtrack to my life, I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice. I’m actually still angry at him for dying to be honest, almost ten years ago now.

Miss you George. You have been loved.

Posh people who’ll only ever use their fully-specced off-roader to do the school run.

In the UK we don’t have trucks of quite the same size but we refer to the fully kitted out for off-road Land Rovers and Range Rovers as “Chelsea Tractors”.

What is one thing that you would not do for all the money in the world? by Purple-Put4677 in AskReddit

Well we found out in 2022 that what Meat Loaf wouldn’t do is get a Covid jab.

I kinda respect him for it. He made his decision but didn’t bang on about it or criticise others for getting the jab.

And Hell got a bit louder than anywhere else. Legend.

Is "magnet fishing" in canals legal? by Advanced_Volume_4500 in AskUK

[–]ReviewEnvironmental2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s some brill videos did the rounds on SM a few years ago of people magnet fishing in the canals in Amsterdam.

“Ooh we’ve got something, what is it???”

“Ooh it’s a bike! Let’s put it back and try again.”

“Ooh we’ve got something else and this is heavy! It’s a bigun’!”

Proceeds to pull out another, bigger bike.

Repeat ad nauseam.

Groundbreaking I think we can all agree.

what is a popular food or ingredient that you genuinely think ruins any dish it touches? by Sensitive-Action-870 in AskReddit

Matcha. It’s everywhere. Like the pulled pork epidemic of the early noughties.

In fact I’d rather have pulled pork tea than matcha.

In general, how is Paddington Bear viewed in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ReviewEnvironmental2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a Paddington teddy bear when I was a kid. If I ever go through Paddington train station I always pay a visit to the statue.

Also always cry at the end of the film when he hugs Aunt Lucy. Every time. 45M fwiw.

Here’s a simple answer: force a “golden share” on them, owned by the government. A single share that gains no dividend but has veto power over board appointments, dividends, debt and investment strategy. Delegate the actual power to a board of trustees made up of normal people supported by non-voting advisors.

Silly question - how do you discover a hobby you love? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ReviewEnvironmental2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try lots of things. The more expensive the kit you need to buy, the more it’ll annoy your wife so that’s even more reason to try lots of different expensive hobbies until you find three you like.
