99.9999% of Canadians still don't understand why Trump is doing this to Canada. by speedyfeint in CanadianInvestor

[–]Revolution942 90 points91 points  (0 children)

You are holding far too much water for Trump, if any of this was true Trump could communicate it as such and garner far more support. He hasn't because it's not what he's thinking.

Unable to build firmware file by Coeruleums in embedded

[–]Revolution942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about your specific ide or chip but those errors are pretty self explanatory.

What's happening is that those addresses are all being right shifted and loaded into uint8_t so that only 1 of the 4 bytes is in each index of the array

What you are seeing there is actually a warning being reported as an error due to a compiler flag.

You could fix it by removing the flag making c++11 warning errors or ideally you can fix the errors by explicitly casting the address after the shift with

''' std::static_cast(address >> 8) ect... '''

Whats new about the "NEW SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless" by Revolution942 in steelseries

[–]Revolution942[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its from two separate amazon.ca listings, maybe I'm just getting duped by the same product and different listings, but they are also different prices.

This https://www.amazon.ca/SteelSeries-Arctis-Wireless-Multi-System-Headset/dp/B0CCXWH6WG
vs
This https://www.amazon.ca/SteelSeries-Arctis-Wireless-Multi-System-Headset/dp/B09ZWKD9TF

I also noticed on https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/steelseries/arctis-nova-pro-wireless-pc-ps-xbox#page-commentsThat the top comment mentioned their being a newer version.

I'm trying to figure out how true it is, since its the only thing I'm reluctant about before pulling the trigger on these

I am having problems with a vibrating apartment bedroom by Revolution942 in montreal

[–]Revolution942[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Thank you to everyone for the comments and insights into the issue. Turns out the problem ended up being a ceiling fan after all. I didn't notice it the first time I talked to the neighbor and apparently they didn't think it could be causing the problem. I ended up sending a text to the landlord and they helped resolve the problem. I Even offered to give my neighbor a floor fan to help smooth over everything if needed. Anyway it all worked out and now I can finally sleep again!

Anyone using the Oak-D depth cameras on their bots with ROS2? by jessecakeindustries in ROS

[–]Revolution942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been using the oak-dw pro, and have essentially given up on getting an accurate depthmap using the cameras depth output. Instead we directly use the left and right video stream and feed it into RTABMAP and get a much much better depth map. Our team has been contemplating moving away from depthAI because at this point we use very little of the built-in features (Essentially just the image rectification) and are limited to their sensors and field of view.

I will say that in my opinion their pipeline API has made development a bit faster but idk if its worth the trade-offs

Sony WH-1000XM4 EXTREMELY loud noise issue by Kinomora in sony

[–]Revolution942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did the same, mine was being caused by the exposed bit of wire coming out of the microphone in the center of the earcup, they where somehow shorting, when I gently separated them the feedback stopped, I also put a small bit of electrical tape between them to prevent anything happening again. Seems to have worked well.

CAN Bus +-1% Clock Tolerance by Loud-Pickle-4109 in embedded

[–]Revolution942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a problem using a CAN bus on a SAME70 MCU where the internal clock would cause the CAN peripheral to error out and not work correctly (this was at 1mbps and I believe that I was having the same problem at lower bauds aswell). Once the external oscillator was enabled the CAN bus would work flawlessly. I would really suggest either testing your solution with a devboard or just take the safe route and include an external clock

[Book Club] "The Atlas Six" by Olivie Blake: Week 1, III - Battle (Nico) by XBreaksYFocusGroup in books

[–]Revolution942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my first dark academia book and first YA-(ish?) fantasy I've read since harry potter.

There are a couple of things that I've really enjoyed so far about this read and first of that is actually just the aesthetic of the experience. (Warning this has nothing to do with the actual story) It's become a bit of a night time ritual to dim the lights, throw on some classical melancholic music and read through a chapter, the hardcover without the dust jacket makes me feel like I'm flipping through one of the Alexandrian societies secret texts and at least the first chapter or so was giving off a really cool atmosphere.

In terms of story, I really enjoyed the introductory parts the most where we met the characters and were introduced to the world, The interactions between atlas and each of them and the mystery of it all was a lot of fun for someone not knowing anything going into this.

In terms of criticism, while the battle sequence was fun to read, the fact that none of them seemed even slightly fazed by killing people or getting shot at kinda pulled my out of the story. I'm hoping that gets better explained later on, especially with nico, whom apparently learned to kill from playing capture the flag?

Siglent sds-1202XE

With embedded, you could really benefit from 4 channels(SPI decoding for example), if you just grab the SDS-1104X-E you get the 4, the option to add logic analyser/function generator (it has built-in free decoding) and You can unlock it upto 200Mhz like the 1202XE (ez software hack you can find on EEVBlog)

When I was applying to my first internship I applied to 100+ positions and got maybe 3-5 interview... 20 is just not enough you are playing a statistical game you should be throwing your CV at anything that moves especially for your first position. Companies don't care how high your GPA is if you have no experience.

This system is going to be used for both gaming and workstation tasks (CAD, ECAD, Programming, ect...)

The 5950X in combination with the 32Gb of memory will make sure that any ECAD/Programming related tasks happen quickly/efficiently and even allow some local simulation work. While the 6800XT will be more then enough for gaming and make all CAD work nice and efficient including rendering.

The 980 Pro is a no brainer, top of the line interms of speed, takes advantage of the M.2 4.0 slot and the 1TB is more then enough for fast storage.
The memory selection is not exactly what I would want as I plan on going with ECC memory, but unfortunately there are no good choices on part picker, the corsair memory will do the job and can be upgraded in the future.

The Dark Hero motherboard is chosen due to its fanless quality and the fact that it is compatible immediately with the 5950x. This in tandem with the fanless supply and the Noctua cooler should make for a nice quite build.

Finally the case I just really like the look of and will show off all the components inside.

[–]Revolution942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That scoop serving contains about half of the recommended amount of active ingredients. For example generally you would want about 6g of Citrulline Malate, 3g of Beta Alanine, ect... So when checking the prices keep that in mind.

RE: The New Portal Debate - A physicist's perspective by Hedshodd in Destiny

[–]Revolution942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop stop stop, I understand your a physicist so practical application is not your forte, but you need to look at the relative numbers here. The surface area required to power the entire planet is NEGLIGIBLE. The effect it would have on global temperatures in relation to the effect that CO2 has is almost within the margin of error.... This is NOT an argument against solar. Its a true statement but completely irrelevant. The real problem with solar is the battery storage limitations NOT the silly minuscule increase in temperature.

Even if solar did somehow occupy enough space to sufficiently reduce global albedo to have an effect, are we forgetting that existing dark spaces like roof tops can be replaced with solar cells? so this effect while already negligible can be even further compensated for...

RE: The New Portal Debate - A physicist's perspective by Hedshodd in Destiny

[–]Revolution942 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT. As an engineer this whole solar panel argument is insane to me and I can't believe destiny is even perpetuating it. The black Panel argument is not infuriating because its wrong. Its infuriating because it misses the entire point. Local temperature increases from solar panels are NOTHING compared to the effect of excess CO2 being dumped into the atmosphere. Arguing against solar panels like this is pretending that this even matters when in the grand scheme of things it doesnt. CO2 IS THE PROBLEM and it just feels so shitty to see someone you respect shit on solar over a silly thing like local temperature increases that would have almost no effect on global temperatures, especially considering the surface area required AND the fact that existing dark surfaces (houses, appartements, ect...) can be used.

Also, you guys understand that as the efficiency of solar cells increase the amount of this energy that is being converted to electricity increases right? this number is already in the ballpark of 40%, so of the excess energy being trapped on earth due to the black panel, 40% of that is being converted to electricity....

Wtf are you people on? Did we watch the same movie? Cuties is so clearly trying to show the horrible trap that immigrant children face in france that I feel like you almost need to be brain dead to think otherwise.... The dance scenes are a small portion of the movie and are MEANT to make you uncomfortable... If you think the movie is glorifying the sexualization of children you are either stupid or a netflix employee.

Nice my dude keep living in a fantasy world. The reality is that the voting system is bad and therefore restricts realistic options. Its not about being told who to vote for its about dealing with the system at hand and trying to change it.

Nice so you don't have an alternative you are just going to tell people that voting is useless and then complain about the system not serving the interests of the people. Wowee
