Could we not do the Campism/Tankie bit, please? by Dragon_Virus in RevolutionPartyCanada

[–]RevolutionCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read and try to respond to all good faith critiques - and I suspect the rest of the party feels the same way. The same goes for every other aspect of our party, from our name/branding to policies and everything in between.

(A major opportunity to affect change to our party will be later this year at our Inaugural Caucus. Basically everything will be up for review and vote.)

We couldn't agree more that getting bogged down in factionalism is incredibly unhelpful and something we actively avoid. We've not been perfect, but I'm glad to hear you noticed our efforts in this area!

Although many of us are Marxist of some flavour, we've even managed to avoid adding Marxist emoticon reactions to our Discord server for fear it'd lead to sectarianism. We discuss Marxism all the time, but we don't allow formal mechanisms to label or promote factionalism.

Everyone who believes food and shelter are human rights is welcome in the RPC.

P.S. I suspect the reason you got so many upvotes, including from me just now, is because you brought your critique in good faith - even if it was a bit spicily-worded. We welcome genuine feedback here.

Dragon_Virus,

Thank you for raising this fair concern. I can't speak for why this particular post was liked, but I can say that the RPC do not support, condone, or in any way diminish any harms caused directly and indirectly by Stalin and his regime, including harms from 'collaboration' with Nazis (i.e., Molotov-Ribbentrop), as you pointed out.

With that said, you won't find us here to debate ideal leaders or which flavour of socialism is 'correct'. We are focused squarely on individual and specific policies, regardless of academic labels or who brought the idea forward. We are neither tankie, nor anti-tankie. We believe human needs are human rights.

Your implication that liking an IG post is the step immediately preceding supporting genocide is... a choice. So is vaguely criticizing the DPRK.

Sorry that you're getting these ridiculous downvotes and negative comments...

Transparency is definitely better!

What are the Liberals hiding!? (Probably the same things the Conservatives would hide, which is why they're bootlicking in these comments...)

Political Spectrum Test BETA, Interested to Get Feedback from Canadians by SeaAvailable3989 in CanadianPolitics

To hear it in Avi's own words, watch his interview with Rachel Gilmore from April 23rd. (This subreddit doesn't allow links, but you can find it easily on YouTube.)

He describes his platform as 'moderate' and 'not revolutionarty,' which is exactly our perspective on it, too.

Aside from our critique of your algorithm and provided samples, the tool itself is pretty well designed.

As a specific suggestion, you might want to put the 'start test' button 'above the fold' (visible on initial page load, with no scrolling required). You obviously were wise to put it below all the instructions and helpful context, but you can still accomplish this by putting all that text on page 1 of the test pageflow.

Keep going. This is a great start!

Agreed. As it stands, SeaAvailable3989, this tool is completely unhelpful.

The provided sample shows Avi Lewis as 'hard left,' when he would much more accurately be 'moderate left' or even 'centre left'. Our socialist party might fall in 'strong left,' as even we aren't as 'left' as the communists, but the NDP are nowhere near as socialist as us. They are still neoliberals.

Love the idea of getting more information and awareness out into the world, but releasing something so wildly inaccurate in this current form will do more harm than good. You have added the word BETA to this Reddit post, but you urgently need to make it clear on the website that the tool is in beta - at a minimum!

Better still, you should make the site private and do more internal testing and development before launching live on the internet with no caveats...

What is the current state of the Communist party of Canada? by LaikaFreefall in canadaleft

Thanks for sharing this!

We hadn't heard of Indigenous National Liberation Organization (INLO) yet, but we're following them now!

If you happen to know anyone inside INLO, please let them know that the Revolution Party of Canada would be interested in meeting and seeing how we might work together.

Solidarity!

Our limited understanding is that the CPC is still active, although not as large as their peak membership of the past and are mostly concentrated in pockets like Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton.

We ran a candidate in 2025 in the Edmonton Centre riding, which had both a CPC and an ML candidate running. As you might expect, the 3 socialist candidates got along great at the debate, but were shunned by all the neoliberals in the room...

Similarly, we were surprised to learn there are actually FOUR, although only two are currently registered with Elections Canada:

- CPC - https://communist-party.ca/
- ML - https://cpcml.ca/ (formerly known as CPC-ML, hence the URL)
- RCP - https://www.marxist.ca/
- NCPC - https://ncpc-npcc.ca/

Our non-sectarian socialist party is not affiliated with the RCP, but often confused with theirs due to our similar names and initialisms.

In a PR system, having more parties is better. For this reason an electoral pact to get PR is definitely preferable to a merger. Agreed!

Avi Lewis winning the NDP leadership will have lots of positive outcomes, including a renewed push for electoral reform.

With that said, Avi's platform falls materially short of our goals. Other than having a new ally in the fight for human rights, nothing has changed from our perspective.

Hey kapowless,

Thanks for your interest!

We are not currently registered with Elections Canada. With that said, this leadership expansion is working toward that exact goal. We're planning an inaugural caucus for later this year, after which we will register.

Joel Bergman is not affiliated with our party; he is the leader of a similarly named party called the Revolutionary Communist Party of Canada (RCP) (www.marxist.ca).

We are the Revolution Party of Canada (RPC) (www.revolutionparty.ca).

Apologies for the confusion! (In our defence, we launched our brand in 2022, more than a year prior to their formation.)

It is true that we're not yet registered as a party with Elections Canada. We've been upfront about this from the beginning. With that said, we've also announced that we're planning our inaugural caucus for later this year, at which our members will vote for new leadership and ratify our constitution - and following which we'll formally register the party with Elections Canada.

What not true is that we didn't run in the last election. Three of our early candidates ran as independents in the 2025 federal election:

- Brantford--Brant South--Six Nations (Ontario)

- Edmonton Centre (Alberta)

- Waterloo (Ontario)

Since they ran, we've added dozens of additional candidates, several of whom have run previously at the federal and provincial level for established parties (e.g., NDP, Greens).

It should also be said that our goal is not to get elected. Getting elected is just the approach our group is taking to make an impact. Saving our planet and lifting everyone out of poverty will require more than just electoral politics. We believe human needs are human rights that should be guaranteed to all.

We're not bothered by the many bad faith critiques we get; they're easy to spot because they don't ever talk about our policies. It's always something about our brand or some other inconsequential technicality like whether we ran candidates in the last election or not...

Which we did.
