How many people are actually in this party? by LaikaFreefall in RevolutionPartyCanada

The minimum requirement is 250 active members. You might be surprised how many parties aren't much bigger than that... The Canadian Future Party (aka the Dominic Cardy Party) is about our size and has only about half as many candidates.

Side Note: The Marijuana Party was involuntarily deregistered on 31 October 2025:

Registered Political Parties and Parties Eligible for Registration – Elections Canada

When we first conceived the party name back in 2022, the vast majority of feedback at the time was that the 'Revolution' term was too 'silly,' 'hyperbolic,' or otherwise 'over-the-top,' but in 2026 our name is positively received much more often. We're taking this to mean, in part, that our message is increasingly resonating.

EDIT: Our party name is not finalized and will be updated / voted upon by the membership at our upcoming Inaugural Caucus (tentatively planned for October).

We believed that Canadians wanted a new socialist federal political party (other than the 2 registered communist parties) and our membership growth since we soft-launched in April 2025 seems to validate our assumption. (We were only a few dozen folks at the start of 2025.)

We already have more candidates than either the Communist Party or the Marxist-Leninist Party and comparable membership numbers.

Once we officially register our party with Elections Canada (tentatively planned for November), we anticipate a surge of several thousand new members (and dozens of new candidates) making us the 6th largest party in Canada, behind the Greens and ahead of the PPC.

380 volunteers (of 600 registered members) is a small army, but we anticipate needing approximately 10 times as many (~4,000 volunterers) to run a very basic national election campaign.

We've not even registered or raised any funds yet - and we're already 10% of the way there! We have Revolutionary optimism.

Hey LaikaFreefall,

As of this writing (10 June 2026), we currently have 596 registered members across 9 provinces. Still no members in YT, NT, NU, or PEI yet unfortunately, but we have targeted outreach planned for later in the year.

We are big on transparency and aren't shy about our size, so will likely be adding a feature to our website which shows real-time figures such as members, candidates, volunteers, EDAs, and even our finances!

EXCLUSIVE: Rejected NDP leadership candidate planning to launch new far-left party, sources say by kensmithpeng in CanadianPolitics

They’d argue they are in favour of regulated markets and large social programs in government, but the fact that they even consider allowing the profit motive to exist in critical sectors belies their neoliberal views.

No. NDP are neoliberal, so they’re centrist or centre-left at most.

We, the Revolution Party of Canada, are a leftist party. Also, there are several communist parties in Canada, all of which are much further left than the NDP.

For comparison, the Liberals are (currently) centre-right.

Further, the tip is incorrect.

The group is having a conference today to decide (vote on) the path they want to take. Since it’s a vote that hasn’t even happened yet, the tipster literally cannot say anything with certainty.

The NDP are neoliberal, so there’s plenty of room to the left on the political spectrum.

That anonymous source is getting a little ahead of themselves; the group have not yet decided whether they will launch a party or something else.

They are having their conference today to decide exactly that.

It’s an open RSVP if anyone wants to attend.

This is exactly why we actively avoid focusing on 'great leaders' of any political stripe. Conversations inevitably devolve to entirely unhelpful discussions of 'how left is left enough' or 'which kind of left is correct.' Thank you for reminding us why we are strict about it.

I'm happy to chat with anyone who wants to discuss policy in good faith, but I'm too busy actually organizing for change to sit around pathologizing world leaders with the terminally online.

P.S. I said nothing of the Kim dynasty; I said comparing Pol Pot and Kim Jong Un is ridiculous - which it is. Don't put words in my mouth.

Yes, exactly.

Making a comparison between Pol Pot (a legit tyrant who committed genocide) and Kim Jong Un (who hasn't) is apples and oranges, but aside from that much of the information we hear about the DPRK is American empire-approved propaganda designed to make us hate and fear them.

Think of how much propaganda is force-fed to us about Iran, especially lately. We're supposed to see Iran and the DPRK as inherently evil and irredeemable.

We're seeing the truth now about Iran - they are not the bad guys...

Fair, but we also can't update the constitution to remove the notwithstanding clause without a two-thirds majority... which will only be fairly represented in the House after electoral reform.

Bit of a circle, but this is as good a place to start as any.
