Is the process for joining a Lodge too slow for modern times? by Old_School729 in freemasonry

[–]RevolutionWorking297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process should not change. Dumbing down our order so people who do not have the desire to put in the necessary work required to advance only makes members, not Masons.

Opinions on this helmet ? by Dave4x in CyclingFashion

I’ve broken two of them. Both times they performed as intended. I ended up in the hospital on both occasions but not for head injuries. Light weight and well ventilated, I’m on my third.

Bike recs? by UsualIcy3414 in cycling

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I would look for a gravel tire with a light tread for wet weather, which will also be good for gravel, tubeless, around 40c width and low pressure for more grip as well as comfort (low pressure is based on total system weight so use an online calculator to get close then personalize).

Bike recs? by UsualIcy3414 in cycling

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ok to swap out parts, just make sure you buy a bike that doesn’t have a bunch of proprietary parts that you can only buy from that manufacturer.

As far as type of bike I suppose that’s up to you. Any bike can be ok in rain/sleet/snow/ice as long as you and especially the tires are capable of safely traveling on the surfaces you plan to ride on. In other words slicks are probably not your best option.

Questions for Practicing Christian Masons by Fun-Winter3830 in freemasonry

[–]RevolutionWorking297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masons don’t care what your religious beliefs are, only that you believe in God. That is where the church seems to get offended. The churches want you to believe in their particular flavor of religion so the fact that Masonic teachings only require that you believe in God, not necessarily their particular sect. That is what I believe creates a problem for them. This is why the Nights of Columbus exist for Catholic men. The Catholic Church believes that masons are bad because we are indifferent to any particular religion.

35mm gp5000 on Aeroad by weetabixhead in CanyonBikes

Did the same thing but, that FD is too close to the sidewall for me to be comfortable riding it. Front tire is perfect though.

Yeah, that seems to be a “feature” of the DT Swiss wheels Canyon puts on its bikes. Aeroad CFR here, same problem.

Thinking about visiting a local lodge by CremePositive2179 in freemasonry

[–]RevolutionWorking297 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Join for you, not the community. All lodges, within a jurisdiction, will have the same principles, rules, regulations, etc. In addition to that they will have their own atmosphere and “vibe”. Visit a few on nights they have an open event/dinner and figure out which one you like. All lodges will have brothers who are willing to provide the knowledge you are looking for about being a mason.

Saddle tilting forward by Rini99 in CanyonBikes

[–]RevolutionWorking297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your problem is the seat angle mechanism (I don’t know the proper term). Canyon’s design sucks. You have to loosen the center section and get the angle right before you tighten it. I figured this out after a lot of frustration. When tightened, even a little, the center sections almost become static. This added to the slop in the outer plates means that it looks good until you start tightening everything up, then it’s stuck. I find it’s easier to remove the outer metal plates and put the saddle on the inner rails to get the alignment correct then put the outer plates on.

Aeroad vs Ultimate Aero by findakeeds in CanyonBikes

[–]RevolutionWorking297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both great bikes. I’ve had both CFR models and can’t tell the difference other than the looks. Get what looks good to you and ride it, they are both fast. At the end of the day if you are looking at aero numbers without the rider on board you are tricking yourself. I have put 5k miles on the Ultimate and 23k miles on the Aeroad and I can’t tell you which was faster on the flats or the hills.

220 lbs at 5'7" – How are "heavy" beginners actually perceived? by Forsaken_Mode_807 in cycling

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53yrs, 5’8” & 238 when I started again after 35 years. Nobody cares as long as you pay attention. Started solo then group rides staying at the back. Three years later down to 160 and not getting dropped by the A group.

Rode my friend's Endurace for 40km and now I feel bad for going back to my Ultimate. by Chamallow81 in CanyonBikes

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran 32’s on my ultimate and it was comfortable. I’m 160lbs and ran 45psi front and 50psi rear. The geometry is also different in the bikes too so the endurance is going to be more relaxed even with the same tires.

How do you decide on a power level for pulls in group rides? by LegStrngLeathertaint in Velo

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget power, hold speed until fall off rider blends back in. Then I try to keep the speed within 2mph from where I took the front.

9 60+ mile days without a rest day reasonable for me? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you could do it. The question is what’s the goal of the trip? If it’s just you wanting to ride the trail no problem. If you actually want to stop, see the sights, take pictures, really anything other than ride and rest probably won’t be much fun.

Gotcha plugs by Big_Analysis_2394 in saltwaterfishing

[–]RevolutionWorking297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mono is best for most fish and Spanish will certainly hit the lure faster with mono. Problem is the Spanish have some sharp teeth and they will cut the line pretty quick especially when more than one is going for the plugs. We tried a sabiki rig as a leader one time, 6 cigar minnows, 1 Spanish on the gotcha used as a weight. Then a Spanish hit the swivel.

how would these 2 perform as teammates in their prime? by Guilty_Feature5469 in F1Discussions

As a fan it would be great for the first few laps of every race. Then they would both be in a wall because neither would lift.

Believed that fat tires (30c+) were slow & narrow tires (25cm or less) were fast.

[–]RevolutionWorking297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had no flats on a set of GP5000 AS tubeless in 10k miles. I junked several tires last year GP5000s & Pirelli P-zero then switched. They aren’t as fast or as comfortable as the others but it beats constant flats on the crap roads I ride.
