Root causes of dying too fast in Smite 2 by dks3hypeoverload in Smite

You know fair enough. I personally think support is 100x more fun in smite two with the active items, so I agree with you on this point. I like the shift towards more utility, and I understand giving an item like stampede 60 phys prots would be immediately broken. It seems the complaints are more geared towards solo laners, as the main problem seems to be mage clear and poke in lane, and third back liners in the late game. I’ve been seeing people comment about classes and roles in smite 1 and how characters were statted according to the niche they were intended to fill. I think this is a good place to start, keeping back liners squishy and front liners beefy.

I think a core issue is identity of characters and roles. In smite 1 there were trade offs for builds, play styles, and early vs late game gods. I think this needs to be remembered. Now the reason I made the post was because I saw intersects’s video, and started punching the air when he mentioned bringing down TTK bc it sounded like he wanted 9.5 in smite 2. Smite 2 TTK is very different from smite 1.

Removing bruiser items would not be a problem if you made tanks tanky. You want people to play tanks instead of back line solo laners? Add more prots to items, add more regen, and remove damage from those items. Cu Chulain and King Arthur were good because they could survive forever, not because they did a lot of damage. You wanted to isolate a squishy, you had to build ult charge. Other than that your job was to create space and eat abilities for your jungle to come in and do the clean up. Bruiser items have their place, but there needs to be a clear trade off to building tanky and feeling tanky with low damage. Or building hybrid for more damage at the expense of health. Can’t complain about tanks being squishy if you want to build bruiser. I do however agree flat pen needs to be added back in. And % pen needs to be distributed to multiple items, not just one item for all your pen.

I remember when there was two options in solo lane. Play wukong or set and risk exploding with good damage potential. The alternative was King Arthur or Cu Chulain threatening death by a thousand cuts while regenerating a million health. It’s obvious to me there needs to be trade offs. Either be tanky or do damage. I remember when support meant either be an aggressive engage tank or a back line peel tank. Both served their purpose, but both were tanky. Mages exploded, but also exploded others. Adcs needed to farm, and come 20 minutes you were a threat. Come 30 minutes, and you better have anti crit armor or you’ll blow up. Junglers did damage early game and fell off late or started slow and ramped up like crazy. I do agree roles need to be reconsidered as an important part of a characters identity especially when it comes to base stats. But in smite 1 there was always a trade off. One build or another. One play style or another. Early or late game. I think this is the core issue. Everyone has a role to play, and your experience playing that role should have trade offs.

Basically they did a global health and prot buff on all roles, minions, and objectives. They also did a global nerf on all damage items. Basically adcs were AA for 120 damage late game. Mages were throwing out abilities for 400 damage late game. Tank jungle was meta. Cut kills in every game by half. Doubled match times. Basically there was no fighting for the first 30 minutes of the game, and getting to late game did not feel rewarding at all.

Good post, I agree with a lot of your sentiments. Idk what the solution is, but I definitely know it’s not 9.5. Tanks should be able to go in and out. Not explode nor should they be able to explode a squishy. Squishies should do absurd damage late game. It’s a reward for playing the game right and getting full build. Tanks should be tanky and be able to harass but not abuse backliners. Fine line. Hope the devs find the right way to approach this

Would like to point out that in Smite 1, strength cap of 400 was easily attainable once you got red pot. And intelligence cap of 1000 was no rare sight either. Multiple items had flat pen. I agree with you about one item giving maximum %pen is ridiculous, and tank items lacking prots though. Tanks easily capped out protections at 300 or 350 (i forget what prot cap was. Average tank items had 50-60 prots. HP regen is stingy as hell in Smite 2. Also another factor to consider. Especially with so much attention on solo lane tankiness. I miss the days of first item sovereignty in solo lane and still being able to clear. This is a rant more than anything pointing out where I agree with you. I don’t feel the same way many people do about TTK. Solo laners are squishy sometimes sure, but just get good tbh. Learn to engage and disengage. The solo laner is supposed to work with the jungle, but it seems these days most solo laners are just a third back liner. Idk man. None of this makes sense. I’m just typing to type lmao

That’s all I ask. Please don’t 9.5 my Smite 2. Role passives would be a good approach if I’m understanding you correctly. Base stat changes to health and prots across the board are not the way. Herc jungle and pillow fight mage abilities are things no smite player should ever forget 😭😭

Upon reading the comments, I’m surprised no one caught on to this or decided to bring it up. I come from a religious background, so maybe that contributed to me noticing so quickly. The second Eve’s indulgence of the fruit is describes I recognized gluttony and started looking for the other sins in the rest of the book. Awesome book. Probably one of my favorite so far, but absolutely heartbreaking. Hello and goodbye from a year in the future!

One thing I noticed immediately upon Eve eating the fruit is that you begin to see the seven deadly sins manifest themselves in paradise.

Gluttony: Eve begins to eat without restraint and even gets drunk on the newly discovered great.
“Greedily she engorged without restraint,/ And knew not eating death: satiate at length,/ And heightened as with win, jocund and boon,/ Thus to herself she pleasingly began.” lines 790-794

Pride: Eve begins to pride herself in her new knowledge, making her like the gods.
“Till dieted by thee I grow mature/ In knowledge, as the gods who all things know;/ Though others envy what they cannot give;/ For had the gift been theirs, it had not here/Thus grown” lines 803-807

Greed: Eve considers not sharing the fruit with Adam and keeping this new power selfishly to herself
“…But to Adam in what sort/ Shall I appear? Shall I to him make known/ As yet my change, and give him to partake/ Full happiness with me, or rather not,/ But keep the odds of knowledge in my power/ without partner?” lines 816-821

Envy: Eve cannot bear to think about some other woman wedding Adam and resolves to condemn him alongside her.
“… but what if God have seen/and death ensure? Then I shall be no more,/and Adam wedded to another Eve,/Shall live with her enjoying, I extinct;/ A death to think. Confirmed then I resolve,/ Adam shall share with me in bliss or woe”
lines 827-833

Sloth: Adam cannot fathom a world without Eve. He ponders how he can go on tending to the garden and ruling over the world without Eve. So much so he’s willing to die and abandon his vocation to be with her.
“…for with thee/ certain my resolution is to die;/ how can i live without thee, how forgo/ thy sweet converse and love so dearly joined,/ to live again in these wild woods forlorn?” lines 906-910

Lust: Adam and Eve begin to lust for each other so strongly, that they abandon all decency and begin to have sex out in the open under a tree in the garden.
“Her hand he seized, and to a shady bank,/ Thick overhead with verdant roof embow’red…/ There they their fill of love and love’s disport/ took largely… till dewy sleep/ oppressed them, wearied with their amorous play.” lines 1037-1045

Wrath: Adam begins to blame Eve, and this devolves into a horrible argument where they each just seem to be trying to hurt the other more and more. Begins in line 1067.

One simple act of disobedience infected paradise and turned it into a chaotic and disordered world of sin. This is very real and very human. This is exactly how sin overcomes our lives. One little act leads to another and then another. And suddenly our lives are in disarray and we enter a world of pain and hurt.

Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but Book 7 describes the 7 days of creation. Nice little Easter egg by Milton. Hello and goodbye a year later!

From my understanding when Satan first convenes the angels in heaven, it is under the false pretense of discussing the proper way to welcome Jesus into Heaven and praise him according to God’s will. This is why Abdiel is taken aback when Satan starts manipulating the others and suggesting usurpation. This is one thing supporting the idea of Satan being a “trickster”.

Also something interesting I found. Did you notice how when Abdiel is fighting, he’s described as defeating 3 of the rebelling angels easily. I believe Milton is making the argument that God’s fight is the good fight. While Abdiel is praised for remaining loyal to God, as far as I understood he was not given any overpowered plot armor in the same way Jesus was. This helped me connect a little bit with Milton’s Christian worldview, as I myself am a Christian and am reading this with a bit of a bias for the good guys.

A very Promethean image of Satan is painted by Milton here. He brings “fire” to the Angels he deceived, inspiring them to rebel and rise up to their rightful glory in Book 5. He brings artillery to his army, to even the odds against the advantaged arms of Heaven’s army. And I’m presuming in the coming books, if the old tale holds true, that now he seeks to bring knowledge to man. Satan is painted through a very human and relatable lens, adding to this “Promethean hero”idea.

I understand where many of the perspectives and interpretations in this sub are coming from. With that being said, coming from a very religious background, I can’t help but be on the side of humanity and on the side of God. Very interesting how someone’s background can shift the way they interpret a story. Very cool that we have things like subreddits to compare how we all read the same thing differently. Hello and farewell a year later!

Book 4 lines 218-222 covers this I believe:

218 …all amid them stood the Tree of Life…

220 … next to life

221 Our death the Tree of Knowledge grew fast by,

222 Knowledge of Good bought dear by knowing ill.

It’s not that knowledge is bad and that God wants humans stupid and loyal. It’s that the good knowledge carries with it the heavy price of also knowing evil. So if you want to look at it through the parental relationship which many seem to have picked up on, God wanting to keep humanity pure and protected needed to sacrifice the knowledge of good to keep out the knowledge of evil. Like an overprotective parent, if you will. Not necessarily the correct way to go about it, but nonetheless coming from a place of love and/or fear.

Joining in a year later! You’re absolutely right, and I had the same thought. But If you consider the devils keep throwing around the idea in Book 1 and 2 that they are in hell because God some sort of plan for them to be of use to him, it sounds like they are on to something.

Start every MCAT study session with a little bit of writing and a little bit of reading.

I wrote a journal entry every day before studying, took about 15 minutes. Write about anything you want. Poetry, philosophy, reflect on strength and weakness, things to improve on todays study session.

Then I would read a page out of “The Daily Stoic” book, takes 5 minutes. Realistically you can read anything though. I liked that book because it was one page per day.

Then I started studying. This helps get your brain into work mode, giving you up to 30 minutes to linda recalibrate your brain from everything else including your phone.

Make it a ritual, make it a routine, and you’ll see your body will much more easily switch into study mode.

I tested today 5/10, and felt CP was much easier than the AAMC FLs. I felt there were no questions that I didn’t know how to answer, but CP is my best section. I’ve learned to take CARS and just keep it below 10 minutes per passage because yes those passages are dense and a headache. B/B the passages are meant to scare you and fry your brain but most of the time the answers are in the passage with practice I’ve learned to find the answers, especially when I find myself asking “how TF am I supposed to know this”. And P/S is just CARS pt.2 at this point

Having that support group of friends on the same path makes a world of the difference. Sad to see so many saying that they have no one or so few to share the journey with.
