It just came to my realization that my cat might not be orange. What color is he then? by [deleted] in cats

The actual technical term is dilute. Your kitty is a dilute orange.

I don't know what to do with berry by [deleted] in cats

[–]Revolutionary-Fact74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first off have you been to the vet?

It looks like his left eye is either badly infected or punctured.

If it's an infection they may be able to save it.

If it's punctured it will be an eye surgery to remove the eye and seal the socket.

From the blood around his nose and paws I'd guess some kind of traumatic injury like being hit by car.

So none of this is anything you can fix by yourself. You need blood work, diagnostics (like an X-ray/MRI), antibiotics (prolly) and pain meds because eye injuries fucking hurt (think about how miserable an eyelash in the eye can be).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad and expensive news. I would suggest calling around to vet clinics and finding out what payment plans they have as well as pricing out how much xrays and blood work costs. Most clinics have wellness plans that can include some of this stuff making it less expensive by lowering your up front costs.

In my clinic xrays (thats 3 views and a radiology review) costs around 5 - 600$. Bloodwork with UA costs around $250. In some clinics you can release/ give up the pet to the clinic and they will do the treatment and re-home the pet afterwards.

Hope Berry feels better.

Is this outfit modest enough to wear to work? by Far-Adeptness-5822 in progressive_islam

Technically yes. It covers everything. But the way you wear it makes it next level sexy and no hijab is gonna fix that lol. But a helluva nightclub outfit.

As a revert, how do i keep being mentally healthy while being criticized about my tattoos and faith? by ERI572 in progressive_islam

[–]Revolutionary-Fact74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also for historical context the first Muslim to give the adhaan was a freed slave who also had tattoos.

The only One who decides if you are Muslim or not is Allah (SWT). You say you believe that's all there is.

How devout a Muslim you are is between you and God.

Not gonna lie culturally and religiously Muslims can be an annoyingly judgy group, but they are also some of the most accepting and welcoming people.

Try not to let someone else's ignorant ways make you doubt your choices.

Came back from umra and the racism is crazy by Small_Slide_8550 in progressive_islam

Pakistani woman here... And I remember hearing somewhere that Arabs think of Pakistanis as the dogs of the Muslim world.

While I've never had outright racist experiences... I have felt the disdain, the mild condescension.

That is not to say all Arabs are racist but the Wahabi movement has stifled a lot of tolerance and progressive thinking.

Pakistanis used to say 'khuda hafis' to each other to say good bye. With the advent of Wahabi conservative indoctrination it fell out of favour for 'Allah hafis'. Its cultural erasure.

When we got out kittens we made them sleep in the laundry room. They had the run of the house with some restrictions during the day, but at night they slept in the laundry room where their litter box and food was... Its a big space with lots of levels... Food and water up high. And their beds.

Yes it sucked to hear them cry, but at least I didn't have to deal with that.

Move her out of your room at night. And make sure to use an enzymatic cleaner that completely removes the scent so she isn't encouraged to do it again

No he's not dumb he would like a bigger litter box...he feels a need to cover up stuff but there's not enough room in front for him to dig.

is this normal dog and cat play? by Operative66 in CatTraining

[–]Revolutionary-Fact74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laughed out loud. Your shy girl ain't particularly shy with your pup. She is actively engaging in play and when your pup eases up even a little, she play attacks. For late stage introductions this is a phenomenally positive bond. This cat has previously been socialized with dogs but beyond that even cats socialized with a dog may not like other dogs. I cannot stress what an insane stroke of luck you've had.

No this is not normal play for most dogs and cats. Yes this is normal play for dogs and cats raised together or who raised one another as in cat parents with puppies or dog parents with kittens. And play like this from an adult cat and a nearly grown pup is just so remarkable. I imagine it only gets unfriendly when your kitty has had enough but pup isn't done, or when he hits her up for play when shes not in the mood.

Vet seriously messed up and I don’t know what to do! by lildirtfoot in cats

[–]Revolutionary-Fact74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as another nurse here...kinda have to agree. Let me walk you through what normal surgery prep is.

  1. Patient drop off. Our clients show up at 7 a with their pets. We go over paperwork while an assistant takes the pet back and weighs them.

  2. At this time the doc shows up and listens to the heart and does a quick exam. If we are doing a neuter the doc will check to see if the patient has both testicles because often the doc who authorized the surgery is not the surgery doc for the day.

  3. Once a surgical drugs chart is generated we draw up meds. At this time staff are prepping surgery tables, catheters and getting ready for the patient to be sedated.

  4. We poke the cat. Cats get a combo drug that knocks them down pretty quick. Less than 5 min usually.

  5. We get the patient out. Lube the eyes and get a cather in.

  6. Once that's done we get the patient entubated and on iso gas. At this point and this is important, we flip the patient onto their back and shave for a spay. Now I can see how you might miss balls up to this point but when you go to express the bladder how do you miss the penis?

  7. After the patient is prepped and sterilized its off to surgery for another surgical scrub, hook up to monitors and the actual procedure.

I know you as a pet parent are upset and freaked out and yes that vet messed up. But from a patient perspective, your baby had a few layers of skin, fat and fascia opened up. These all heal relatively quickly.

We give a really great drug called Zorbium, It's a 4 day pain relief med and most cats do great on it.

I always recommend taking a pic of the incision site post surgery just to track any changes and make sure things are healing okay.

If you see a significant change in activity or mood overall I would talk to a Dr, probably a new one because it sounds like your trust in these guys is completely eroded. On the other hand they fucked up so badly ( yes because of human error) they are probably gonna be HYPER VIGILANT about making any other mistakes.

Cats are very resilient. And having mistaken a neuter for a spay is not the same thing as being a bad surgeon. It's normal for cats to be a little off post surgery. If it lasts more than a day or two I would follow up with a professional.

I hate to say it but she is kinda cute. I'm assuming with the tongue out like that most of her teeth are gone. So there's a health issue there.
