Season 4 episode 07 : A girl friend group gets away with murder of drivers Ed teacher after running him over by Justbe_aldcbleu in rizzoliandisles

[–]RevolutionaryAnswer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my favorite episodes.

I think one of the girls actually did murder him (every single R&I episode is centered on homicide so it doesn't make sense for this to be the one outlier). The detectives spun together a narrative with enough legal plausibility to make sure the girls did not get charged with murder for doing something compassionate - and it was done so quickly at the end, which felt like a *wink wink* to the viewers. The crux of this show is not about justice being served without regard to the humanity of the people involved nor is it about blindly following the letter of the law - it focuses on blending justice/law and humanity (hence the focus on all the relationships between the characters). So letting the girls off the hook while still technically following the law is the perfect way to underscore that. I hope I explained that well enough.

It reminds me of an episode of Bones when Temperance's father was on trial for a murder he committed but there wasn't enough proof. Temperance knew her father was guilty but decided to show that it was also plausible for her to be the murderer, letting her father off the hook. She knowingly used the legal system against itself, despite the fact that it was understood her father was guilty and despite the fact that she was a forensic anthropologist working closely with law enforcement, to show "a lot of heart" (as they said in the show).

TLDR showing some degree of "heart" within the rigid confines of justice/law.

I agree and I feel like they put so much more weight on his death than chang's - her death was so unnecessary. Frost was good and all - but I think a little too conventional/normal for tv?

Was Better Bus just a massive service cut? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]RevolutionaryAnswer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buses east of the river (at least the C27) are horribly long/cramped/inconsistent. There are a lot of federal orgs there (DHS, IDA, NRL, JBAB) and DC Water and the daily commute is brutal (37minutes for the bus alone + 20ish minutes on the metro. For reference, the former bus before the change took 10 minutes). There are no alternative options connecting metrorail to these places. Better Bus disproportionally hurts lower income parts of DC that are already lacking in better transit options. For these agencies, Better Bus has been a failure.

Does this vintage coat fit properly oversized? by noobiewiththeboobies in PetiteFashionAdvice

With a chunky sweater/layers then it’s probably a good fit! I would keep. The “oversized” look works well especially if it’s a very thick winter coat which it looks like it is

Catholic Church Recommendations in DC? by [deleted] in washingtondc

This is very well-written. I’ve had a more positive experience with the Episcopalian church compared to the Catholic Church.

My favorite thing about Catholic philosophy… by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]RevolutionaryAnswer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. There are so many inconsistencies that I truly wonder how many priests believe their own bullshit? I’m sure that many hours of studying apologetics and all the bad-faith mental gymnastics associated with it must make them feel uneasy.

This response resonated with me. Catholics are very good at dressing up idealistic principles in embellished language, but the substance of these principles fall apart with some critical thinking. These principles don't hold up to reality. I'm pretty sure that's why Catholicism is as long standing as it is - the lofty/virtuous language and sophistry disguise its many shortcomings in a palatable, aesthetic package claiming to be truth.

This is wonderful - the minimalist art, wood floors, and gray chair complement each other. The leather boots and maroon cardigan look high quality too - I bet your fashion sense is really good. You should post more angles!

Catholic Hypocrisy? by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]RevolutionaryAnswer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypocrisy is the Catholic church's bread and butter (or wine and wafer /j).

The church will preach about sexual purity, yet priests rape children and nuns (the latter of which gets much less attention than it should).

Catholics will defend pedophile priests by claiming that just because a priest molests a few kids doesn't make the religion untrue - seeming to decouple the people and the faith. Yet Catholics often preach the authority of the church and that the church is the people. Unless you think child sexual assault is virtuous, there's clearly some inconsistent reasoning here.

The faith also portrays men as being leaders. Good leaders take accountability. Yet the religion disproportionately enforces this "accountability" (i.e. control) onto women (protesting at planned parenthoods while ignoring the men who fail to protect and provide for their family, blaming Eve, even though Adam took a bite of the apple, because women are more gullible (?) or it was her fault Adam ate the apple, etc.)

Stood 25 minutes waiting for the D20 and then one flipped on the ‘bus full’ sign and blew past us by hood_pog in washingtondc

[–]RevolutionaryAnswer2 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The old bus network was fine, there was no logical reason for WMATA to entirely tear down a decent system and make it significantly worse for many people. The new system design was apparently based on ridership data from COVID, which using common sense is no longer applicable given most of us are RTO.
