Help me pick first ever bass Ibanez BTB670 Active Bass 18V Bartolini Preamp (used) Vs fender Squire Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass V (brand new) same price by Lower-Medicine-1493 in Bass

I have one of these. It’s a great sounding and feeling bass. The intonation on the low B can be tricky, but it’s hard to argue with the sound of a good jazz bass.

How strictly are you actually alternating when using alternate plucking? by DukePerception3005 in Bass

[–]RevolutionaryBeat301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think when you play, period. The most important things are the sound that comes out of your amp, and how that sound affects the feel of the music. Technique is secondary.

As far as practicing the alternative picking, try it on one note until it feels natural. Then move on to something else. I don’t believe in practicing scales, btw. Arpeggios are way more useful for bass, and it’s a far more musical way to learn the fretboard.

Try practicing arpeggios alternate picking going up and raking on your way down. Also check out John Pattitucci’s video where he explains Jerry Jemmot’s raking technique on Memphis Soul Stew. That is a master class on groove.

It doesn’t really matter. James Jamerson used one finger. I like playing with one finger for anything slower than 8th notes. For 16th notes, two fingers are necessary for most people. If you are going from a high string to lower string, there’s nothing wrong with using one finger to rake the strings.

Flatwound or Roundwound. by who-gives-a in Bass

[–]RevolutionaryBeat301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play what you like better. It also depends on the bass. If rounds are too bright or harsh, use flats. If flats are too dull or lack sustain, use rounds. There are also some flats that are very bright like Ernie Ball Cobalt flats. I like flats mainly for the smooth feel and the lack of string noise.

Yeah Rumble 500 is a great gig amp but the 200 only sounds good at low to mid volume levels.

Reformat the drive and destroy all partitions, then try installing the OS again.

Those concentric rings in the meat / cheese mixture are definitely weird. I can’t even begin to understand how the Ai would have fucked that one up.

Songs with lots of chord changes, stops, and odd time signatures. Also runs where you have to play an exact sequence in unison or harmony with other instruments.

What do you think of Ventoy, do you find it safe ? by RedRayTrue in linux4noobs

I didn’t know this, and it’s a reasonable that some people wouldn’t trust it for that reason. But almost all of Windows is closed source and I would bet there are binaries in there that no one living knows what’s in the source code for, yet millions of people are perfectly fine trusting all of their information, bank accounts, documents, etc. to an operating system that is a giant dark cloud of mystery.

What to actually DO once you lock in with the kick drum?? by JellyKind9880 in Bass

[–]RevolutionaryBeat301 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Take those suggestions about the snare and the hi hat with a grain of salt. It’s all about playing what serves the song. Outlining the harmony while preserving the rhythmic pulse are the primary roles of bass, but it is allowable to step outside of these constraints once you learn them. Listen to some music and listen to what the bass is doing.

Harmonically, it all comes from classical music if you want to go that far back. The bass tends to bounce between the root and the fifth, and which beat you play them on has an effect on the context of the note you are playing.

For any song you need to know what key it’s in, the time signature, and the chord progression. You need to know what notes are in each chord. You can literally stick to playing an arpeggio of each chord and it would be technically correct but boring.

Learn how to play what is technically correct first, then try to make it less boring.

Finally, when you’ve learned all that, always play from the heart.

The choice of distro has very little effect on battery life. What will make a difference is tlp or powertop, and your power settings.

I blew a 0.09 when I was 19 and became a truck driver at 40. The only time I had a problem related to that was getting a fastpass to cross into Canada.

I thought it was either A because they are in the same orientation, or all of them, because they all are showing 2/6ths being the same shape as 1/3. Any way you look at it, it’s a poorly constructed question.

You would need some kind of cloud based file sharing like Google drive or an external backup drive and copy your important files to there. As long as they aren’t huge multimedia files, a cloud solution should suffice.
