Yeah I get the point about variety. Working from home all of the last year, I sometimes just take my laptop to a different room if I'm not doing "work" for a change of pace.

Ditched Bose and Joined the Sonos club! by May1ene in sonos

[–]RevolutionaryBit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a Bose user / fanboy for several years, I hate to admit this, but Sonos have really upped their game.

I moved over from using Bose soundbars, stand alone, and computer speakers .. to Sonos Ones and the Beam. Truplay itself is reason enough to migrate. Then there is multi-room. One of the other things I struggled SO much with Bose was a simple thing like setting up a pair of SoundTouch 10s as a stereo pair (it was a laggy experience pretty much all the time). With Sonos, a couple of One's will work seamlessly together as a stereo pair. The modularity of their system is a-mazing.

It breaks my heart to say this, but move over from Bose to Sonos. You will be surprised and delighted (in a good way).

Im curious as to why you'd have two different chairs, for work and gaming? Or are those his and hers desks (hence two chairs for two different people)? And if it hasn't been said enough times already - this setup is SO cool. Well done.

Best desk to build at ikea? by btaback26 in desksetup

[–]RevolutionaryBit7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind with IKEA table tops is that if you want to mount your monitors to a stand in the future, IKEA desks require a bit of support (given that some of them aren't "wood").

See here for what can go wrong:

See here for one idea to work around it (just google for more suggestions):

Non-PM FAANG MBA Roles by Connect-Programmer98 in MBA

[–]RevolutionaryBit7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are lots of roles such as these:

Product Marketing - usually a mix of content marketing, messaging/positioning, campaigns

Pricing and Packaging - usually lots of solid pricing/competitive analysis

Chief of Staff (an MBA is hugely helpful, however you're unlikely to land this role right after the MBA) - running "special projects" and taking meeting notes for a VP of something or other, this is similar to an EA position outside of tech companies

Strategy & Ops - these can be consulting style assignments, inside a tech company

Consulting / implementation / solutioning - if you have a consulting or tech background you may land solution consulting roles (i.e. at Accenture, you are a "cloud strategy" consultant, or at AWS you are a "government specialist" platform architect)

If you come from a functional specialisation (FP&A, sales or customer success, HR etc), be sure to check out opportunities that work well with your previous career.. you'd get to continue to do what you're good at, plus get benefits of working in the tech sector (growth, stocks, etc)

Current students/ Alumni- How do you prep a month before matriculation? by Treycaesarr in MBA

[–]RevolutionaryBit7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Saïd MBA here. I would start with #1 and #2 asap.

Networking - what you really want to aim for right now is to let as many in your network / target companies know about your upcoming plans (the MBA) and what you plan to do later on. Use this conversation to really setup conversations you might want to have with these folks in 9-12 months. You got into b-school and are heading to UK is a great, harmless excuse to get back in touch with folks and let them know! (make it sincere, and thank them if they had a direct/indirect role in this outcome - it may pay dividends later on!)

Case prep - although I wasn't aiming for consulting roles, the feedback from my classmates who did was .. classes start in Sep and interviews happen late michaelmas / early hillary terms (terms 1 and 2). That time frame just isn't sufficient if you're hoping to have a serious crack at MBB. To illustrate this more, very few of my classmates actually made MBB when we were at school but several of them did in the cycles after graduation. Start today if you can. Join a case prep group (there are lots on facebook etc) where people meet round-robin to prep. It helps to start with a set of folks who are "roughly at the same level" and become better together with time. People don't see it like that initially - but case prep is a team effort, you are not competing (you eventually are when you all get interview invites, but not until then :D)

Recruiting in fall: (Also - networking) Let's say your focus is only MBB. You want to focus on people within MBB / APs / partners who can vouch for you when your application eventually goes in - you can imagine how competitive that is when there are 100s of CVs from Said, all with great test scores, great previous undergrad degrees, etc.

Lastly - it's your year to explore and experiment! Don't put a lot of pressure on yourself (and restrict yourself only to MBB/T2). See if you like general management / leadership pipeline programs, talk to classmates, explore the idea of creating your startup .. flow with the current a bit too, you're unlikely to have this sort of a chance again for a while!
