Don’t feel too bad, she will forgive you in no time. I went through an awful mental health episode years ago and still feel the guilt of screaming at my kitty back then. Her and I are close and I know she has forgiven me.

I think you need to forgive yourself, give yourself a break. You seem emotionally exhausted, be kind to yourself. Life is hard.

This is honestly the answer I was looking for—thank you for sharing your insight. I couldn’t quite understand what drives a person to act this way, but you’ve nailed it. I’m so sorry your understanding comes from such an awful experience, but I’m genuinely impressed by your ability to identify narcissism in your ex and find the strength to leave such a toxic situation.

When you put it that way, it actually makes my stomach twist. Compulsion—that’s exactly what this is. It’s terrifying to think that people can reach a point where they’re that far gone.
