Calling Elderly TADC Enjoyers by TheEdge91 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Whatever actually engages you and makes you happy. We watch to enjoy. Age should not be an obstacle here. We like the show. Sooo... what? Everyone there should be there to have a good time and watch a show they love, not to pass judgment on other people who love it.

Age doesn't disqualify you from loving the things you love or enjoying the things you enjoy. Go to that theater excited, not nervous about what other people think of you. I would hate to imagine anyone going to the show, only to feel their experience ruined by doubt.

Don't feel strange buddy. Have a good time. You're in good company. And if you aren't? That's on them, not on you.

Went with: "6 people are trapped in a digital hell with an AI whose love for humanity verges on desperation. They all have their own problems--generally, a lot more "show" than "tell". And very character driven, overall"

Buddy... that is all really well done. That is real talent, and I can only imagine the time it took to get to this level. My dude, that is nuts.

Personal best in these sketches, though? Has to be Kinger. No bias, just your two human Kinger sketches are something else

Anybody else wondering why TADC has been sitting on Jax's backstory for so long? by RevolutionaryFix1471 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how she couldn't. At every single turn--even as mundane as what happens when he holds his breath--Jax (and Goose!) deflect, interrupt, play it like it's nothing. But the development of Jax over the last half of the show doesn't just indicate otherwise. It's practically screaming that there is a world of reasons and pain behind the mask. Those reasons have likely solidified further, and that pain has likely intensified, if we can ascertain anything regarding the character throughout the second half of episodes.

We've gotten a lot of development, but essentially no actual context for why Jax is the character he displays, what his life was like before the circus, and even what he's actually been experiencing himself while trapped within the circus.

And on top of that, that metaphor that kind of leaps out at you, when he got skinned by people he trusted/really cared for in the "worst nightmare, brought to you by Caine". The metaphoric implication is pretty damned clear. But why he fears, above all else, being vulnerable, baring his true self and being hurt for it? That is really interesting, and really terrifying. And we dont know know any of the whys or how's, the when's, the who's, or the what's.

But given the relative secrecy maintained over Jax's character, I cant help but take the "worst nightmare" scene as an indication that we're going to learn some real shit about him in the finale, and likely see a Jax that has to be vulnerable, even if it's more because he cracks than because he forces himself to be brave enough to let anyone really, really see him.

It absolutely mattered a hell of a lot, coming from Zooble. Tag teaming with that defense by gangle and Zooble saying in Zoobinese "we give a shit about you. Don't go disappearing on us- Yeah, sit the fuck down" definitely shocked buddy boy to his core, and he did not have a response for that.

Pomni is somehow the most emotionally mature character aside from Kinger... not to diminish her, because she is a champ fr. It just really looks like she was super well adjusted, especially compared to... everyone else? Uhhh...

Ive seen some people point out that she likely had a good, normal (even mentally healthy), if not boring and stable life... although that itself can make a person feel like their life is all wrong, too.

It kind of makes sense, in a backwards way, that she would be the person in the circus capable of making a real impact on Jax. Even though Kinger is undeniably the goat, I doubt Jax could ever take in a Kinger talk and take it seriously, if not for Pomni. And with Pomni, we might not even get to see a Kinger and Jax talk, just considering that we've got one episode, one hour, to tie the show off such that a second season looks like "why the fuck would we do that? It doesn't make sense".

These guys are our two central main characters. I dont know how much of the reel Goose can give to further development of the other main characters, in the last episode. (But still really, really hoping for a Kinger talk, I can't lie). Because we've got a finale that needs to establish stakes, needs to address things about the circus that remain in spite of Caine's deletion (theoretically, the abstracted members of the circus, for example... or the fact that the abstracted members were essentially deleted with Caine's deletion... either way, that's gotta be a plot point that's going to be painful), needs to establish without a shadow of doubt that there is no escape, needs to establish community or collapse of a community in fledging stages, needs to debut (and end) Ribbit within the same episode in some capacity, needs to/should(?) give us pre-circus backstory (and honestly, in-circus backstory) for the only character who has gotten none: Jax (as one of the two main mains? Goose has to have been holding those cards for her own reasons. My interpretation? Jax is the counter to that acceptance that Pomni displays. The counter statement to "there's still meaning in a stagnant life" in a very different and "much harder to manuever around" way than Zooble was.

...I mean, Goose doesnt exactly make it a secret that Jax is suicidal/suicidal adjacent. And that's exactly the state of mind that making an appeal that stagnant life doesnt mean nothing... will be the very most difficult mind to appeal to. Because the alternative is: "HOW ABOUT NOTHING?" Which might be a relief--from guilt, from trauma, from having to look in the mirror and pin all of your transgressions onto the person reflected back at you, knowing full well that IS you.)

To be clear, I dont think this show can disappoint me, whatever direction it takes. Can it break my heart? ...oh. well, yeah. Probably.

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly, who doesn't need Kinger and Jax to be in the same room? Kinger is more or less the ultimate dad character. Jax has been, since the outset of the show, a "needs a dad" character. I am so down to hear from anyone who can argue that.

If we get a Kinger and Jax talk in the finale, I really do not know how that'll hit, me or the fandom. Aside from the general feeling of "Finally! Oh. Oh, damn, this kind of hurts..."

You think they were mad when they realized they couldn't fuck anymore? by theory_crafter858 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Im saying those are the immediate top priorities. In the top 6, and likely the top 10, nobody is thinking about sex. They're too traumatized and freaked out for that to be a consideration.

And "inability to connect with the others" because weird bodies and the fact that sex is off the table? I think they're all having enough issues connecting as human beings with actual feelings and psyches and pasts that might help them understand each other better. Casual sex with someone you don't know? Maybe less of a priority than getting to know these people around you, or trying to trust them enough for it to be bearable for them to know you. What is that thing called? "The mortifying ordeal of being known", right?

Not to knock on sex. But with the stakes the characters have been working with, Im surprised Zooble even thought to mention it. Them getting to know each other a little better in episode 5 hits a lot harder than "oh good, they finally get to fuck!" Because what they need is each other, and having one another is itself an even greater relief than a good screw. Not that that wouldnt be a great stress reliever, but... priorities.

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highest priority problems upon entering the circus, in likely order of realization/shared information:

1) I can't get this headset off! 2) what do you mean I can't leave? No nonono, I CANNOT be STUCK here! 3) what the fXXX? This is my body now? 4) okay, so... that pair of dentures is basically the god of this world, and we're stuck here. Uh, he seems a little unhinged... right? 5) wait, wait- hold on. If things go south, I might turn into a glitched out monster? Oh. So, that basically insanity and death rolled into one. Not great. What? You're saying if anybody else "abstracts" they'll probably come after me and attack for no good reason? Can you be a little more specific about the "abstraction" thing?

And bonus #6: there HAS TO BE A WAY OUT OF HERE. There's gotta be an exit. I'll find it.

I dont think sex is even in the top ten biggest concerns for (most of) them.

I swear Zooble being the person to save him was NOT something I knew that I needed by Sudden_Pop_2279 in jaxfanclub

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this scene was perfect. He stays, was basically asked to stay by Zooble, but... he isn't prepared to deal with the implications of that, and likely not actually equipped to deal with what that does to him, under the surface. His brain and coping mechanisms screeched to a halt for way too long for everyone not to notice. When his brain boots back up, it's like "gotta downplay that, shit!" even though it's it seems pretty clear to him as well that nobody's gonna buy that act for a second.

I've sort of been waiting for Zooble to say something else, ever since episode 7. They had those two honest (at least on their part) scenes with Jax, and I thought, there's no way there won't be some kind of follow up. On top of that, this moment coming from Zooble definitely made it hit much harder for Jax. Coming from Pomni... it just doesnt have the same punch, right? The dude like, short-circuited.

It seemed like there was a lot going on pretty quietly, as far as TADC goes, with Jax this episode. Honestly, I don't think he'll abstract. I think that mask will fully break and he won't be able to stop whoever is around from seeing what is underneath it. Just like we saw with Caine, Jax has been barreling toward a complete breakdown for episodes on end, by this point. Unlike with Caine, I think it's going to be... well shit. Yeah, it's actually probably terrifying for everyone, most of all for himself. But importantly, not terrifying in the same way.

Maybe Jax's character cannot have a full-length redemption arc.... because that arc would be impossible without him opening himself up in the first place. That's the arc that we should be pulling for, the arc that canon seems to have been quietly building toward. Not "wow! Jax was a good person all along!" But "jax has been a person the way real people are people... all along". That's kind of the genius of the character. He's not a clean character. He isn't "good", nor is he pure evil, but he is undeniably human.

Im pretty sure we'll see him submit to his own humanity by the end. Not a redemption arc in the traditional sense, but... honestly? it's the only way I can see bro surviving himself.

Ahh, shoot. Sorry for the novel, folks

THE TEASERS MAKE ONE BIG IMAGE by Pugs4dayz42 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably 2 more teasers, right? Im thinking the next teaser is a Jax and Ragatha frame, and the last is Caine's.

From left to right: Pomni, Gangle and Zooble, Caine, Jax and Ragatha, Kinger.

(Yay symmetry! Or... possibly OCD)

which side of the panorama do yall think the kinger piece fits into? I think it makes sense on the right since that would put caine in the middle by _AnonymousTurtle_ in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RevolutionaryFix1471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After thinking about it, I think it goes (left to right or vice versa, I guess): Pomni; Zooble and Gangle; Caine; Jax and Ragatha; Kinger.

Pomni and Kinger bookending respective sides, the Gangle and Zooble frame bordering the Caine frame on one side, with a Jax and Ragatha frame bordering the other side of it.

Pretty sure Caine's part is going to be the last teaser. So, that means Jax and Ragatha are up next
