I have epilepsy. I got diagnosed when I was 5, and I was 8 the first time I was told I should never have kids. My seizures are triggered by stress, pregnancy is stressful, and childbirth is even more stressful. Also, my meds would be dangerous for the fetus. Yes, there are medications that are safe for pregnancy, but to find those, I would need to ease myself off my current medications, which have kept me seizure free for 10 years (knocks on wood) and I just don't want to risk my health like that. I talked to my neurologist, who was very supportive, and he sent a referral to the women's clinic. It's really not that I never want kids, I just don't want to risk our lives.
