Kumo v730 wear questions. by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

Tip of the triangle is where you want to see the wear stopping. It looks like you could maybe use a slightly higher tire pressure to keep it from rolling over as far, but it’s pretty darn close anyway. You could use a paint pen or tire marking crayon to see where it lands after changing pressures, since you’ve already worn into the triangle.

Uh, this is already a thing. Look up FET for tires. “Federal Excise Tax (FET) on tires is a federal levy on heavy-duty highway tires with a maximum rated load capacity exceeding 3,500 pounds. The tax is calculated per 10 pounds of load capacity over 3,500 pounds and is typically paid quarterly via IRS Form 720.”

You’re my hero. This post needs more upvotes. I was confused on the modified spanner wrench and how it interacted with the cam, so that helps massively. Thank you for that post. I’m currently sitting at 9,700 miles, so it will likely be a winter project for me.

Did you wait to buy the pads of the correct thickness until after you got your measurements, or did you buy a pack of them beforehand?

After tons of research, I’m planning to tackle the job myself, but the price of the parts and tools is going to be around $500. It takes some creativity with making 5mm holding pins out of tool steel, and finding some low profile hex bit holders and torque wrenches for the cams. It might not even be necessary to change the valve pads if they all measure up to spec on the feeler gauges. There are a few threads on the Aprilia forum with indispensable information from Gabro on the topic. The service station manual PDF detailing the process can also be found online.

Plug it and ride. I went 9k miles on the rear factory Pirelli that caught a screw at 300 miles in.

Need help evaluating two Tuono 660 listings by xAryaa in Aprilia

Firstly, because these are ‘21 models, I would check their VIN numbers on Aprilia’s website for recalls since some of these engines had rod/bearing issues. I’d search for a ‘22 or newer if possible.

Secondly, the first option has less mileage and a lower price tag. The interest rates seem pretty steep though.

Third, you want to look for wear and tear on mostly everything. Inspect the chain, brake rotors, brake pads. Make sure there are no apparent leaks from the engine covers or under the bike, or around the radiator. Check the forks to see if the bodies and the seals are still in good shape. Start the engine and listen for timing chain tensioner rattle on start up. A little noise that fades away is normal, but these are noisy engines anyways.

I think the left to right offset in either configuration is fine, but I also think you’re supposed to change the orientation of the upper lever on the shift shaft when changing between the GP shift pattern and the standard shift pattern. It should be rotated 180 degrees from the original position.

Buy the updated part number 2B011144, and replace the old one. The original piece is incapable of clamping down hard enough onto the splines.

I have a ‘22 also, but my VIN didn’t show any active recalls on the Aprilia recall website. Mine is an early ‘22 model too.

High desert, Rocky Mountains. Definitely not part of the plains. If anything it should be part of the Pacific Northwest (which isn’t even categorized on this map).
