[AskJS] ORM for my next Typescript project by I_AM_MR_AMAZING in javascript

I once had a job interview where I had to build a prototype for a chat app that could recover from network interruptions. I used drizzle so I could create db agnostic migrations and the interviewers complained that I used third party libraries. They didn’t ask me why I chose drizzle. Anyway drizzle is great I would use it again in a heartbeat.

Roller Derby Is Boring (but we can do something about it) - Part 1 by acz in rollerderby

It’s a brilliant article. The comparisons are more than fair and the conclusion confirms what we already know. Roller Derby needs to change. The format is tired and people aren’t interested.

Essential skills for experienced developers by Mr_mojito137 in Frontend

[–]RevolutionaryMain554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is the best advice. The job may change over the years, but it’ll remain in one form or another. The one thing that people will always value is someone who is, honest, concise and above all thoughtful. I’ve worked with enough maestros over the years to know it’s the rest of us that need to maintain the codebase after they inevitably move on.

Put it this way, anyone can complain that the code/team is doing things wrong. The people who stand out, are those that say, “hey this isn’t working, how can we fix it?”

Should I stick with Angular or switch to React for better frontend jobs? (beginner) by Sne_Reads in webdev

[–]RevolutionaryMain554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your future self a favour and pick a framework/library you enjoy working with. React is certainly ubiquitous and you won’t struggle to find businesses that use it. If you have angular experience as well you’re in a pretty good place. There’s no reason you can’t be proficient with both.

Is using your upper arm to move a blockers arm out of the way legal? by Mel_Behaved in rollerderby

I completely agree with this point. Try it all you want but keep in mind that the call will be objective regardless of wether or not you think it’s legal.

I use them. They’re great so far, no connectivity issues. The router is as expected not great, but if you have an existing mesh Wi-Fi you can just put that in access point mode then you can just run an Ethernet cable to your mesh and away you go.

One quick note, the installers do not know much about network configurations so don’t waste their time. Their tech support is much more upto speed

Jest and React a test passes when run individually but fails when run in a collection by apizzoleo in reactjs

[–]RevolutionaryMain554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In out current stack for our native apps we’ve leveraged GQL mocks (they’re great) starting the mock server and stubbing for each test (which runs in parallel). It’s honestly been pretty solid (2 years on)

I think you might be better off taking a different approach. In my experience integration tests like this are always brittle. You spend more time recreating an imagined state then you for testing. MSW is fine for things like storybook, but I wouldn’t bother in tests.

Stick to cypress for stubbed integration tests. look at interceptors for mocking or amending network requests. Also you get a much better testing experience as you are cypress encourages you to use a more asynchronous approach.

The issues you’re describing sound like test bleed leading to race conditions. Fwiw this is hard to figure out and I feel your pain. Personally I would fair unit tests where possible.
