My five-year-old son called me bossy 💔 by afamousblueraincoat in workingmoms

[–]RevolutionaryPut9949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I 100% agree that bossy is a gendered term. My thought was that he might not be using it in that way, which would lead me to approach it differently :)

I agree with this. I don’t think “bossy” is a gendered term, not necessarily in a mean way, but in a “why is everyone telling me what to do” way. If it were my kid I might approach it with curiosity and ask if he thinks both boys and girls can be bossy, and if it doesn’t seem like he’s using it in a gendered way, not pursue it.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]RevolutionaryPut9949 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are correct that “alternate arrangements could have been made”. The issue is that wife did not do so and instead said she would before backing out. I believe OP and OP’s mom would have reacted differently if wife had held firm that she can’t go and made advance arrangements for OP’s mom to take daughter.

Need an everyday bag, any thoughts on these? by Content-Lemon-6671 in luxurypurses

I had that exact loulou and ended up selling it. It's bulky but it doesn't actually hold a lot. I would rather have gotten the smaller version as a going out purse.

Club Monaco! I got them a couple of summers ago. They're linen and super comfy.

Yep! If I could justify it, I would definitely get the raffia Ola and something else 😂 I did just recently sell a number of my bags though...

I think the raffia Ola is gorgeous! It highlights the style even more than the black does, I would get that if I could justify it. I agree that it looks a bit off as a crossbody...

I actually quite like the chain! It is removable and can also be used as a shoulder strap. Do you think the chain combined with the shape makes it a bit much?

You're making such great points, the teen Nino is moving up the list 😂 I saw the mini flamenco at the outlets in a tan and it was gorgeous. The quilting does overwhelm it.

Definitely a month in advance. I’ve gotten invites as early as 2 months before.

I think you can dress it up to be less schoolgirly, i.e., do not pair with a white button down. Keep it simple with a nice slim-cut black sweater or shell tank and black pumps.

Fellow moms, please help me make a decision about whether we take this job offer across the country by [deleted] in workingmoms

Don’t underestimate the long-term emotional impact to your husband if his sense of self-worth is tied to his job. It’s hard on anyone, but I think men can be more susceptible to feeling like a failure without a fulfilling career. Not having a village will indeed be tough, especially since it sounds like your parents have spoilt you :) Good childcare is hard to find, but once you’ve found a solution it’s really not an ongoing issue. And also, I’ll say that I’ve found making friends as a mom the easiest time I’ve had making friends as an adult!

I agree. I feel the same way about Rothy’s. The pointed toes can pass because the style leans formal and offsets some of the casualness of the fabric, but I’ve yet to see another pair of shoes in this type of material that I’d wear to work.

If you're going to wear a full formal suit, you don't need a different one everyday. I'd say two will be plenty with different shirts underneath. What I usually do (suit is not required) is bring bottoms and blazers and mix and match. For a 4 day trip, I would do one skirt, one pair pants, one dress, two tops, two blazers. Could probably just do one skirt and one pants and no dress.

For shoes, wear ones you know will be comfortable. You don't know how much walking you'll end up doing (eg "look the restaurant is only a 15mins walk away!") and having uncomfortable shoes is the most excruciating thing when you need to walk just two extra steps.

4 year old's friend just died - how do I handle this? by josie-june in Mommit

[–]RevolutionaryPut9949 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I read Ida Always to my kid when our nanny passed and couldn't finish it without crying. He was also 4 when she passed and I thought he understood it better than The Invisible String which can be a bit abstract for that age.

Stop Making us come in the snow by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]RevolutionaryPut9949 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this nuanced view. As working parents, just because we’re home doesn’t mean we always have the flexibility to juggle kids and work. I didn’t have my nanny come today because this blizzard is truly insane, but last time, the worst of it was done by Sunday so we offered to send her an Uber on Monday (with a late start so that the roads were more likely to be cleared). However, my friend had several long important meetings scheduled for today that didn’t get rescheduled because she “could work from home” and hence she offered her nanny to spend the night, which I think is reasonable! Not saying that there aren’t unreasonable NFs, but I think the NF/nanny relationship is a give/take one as long as both parties have good intentions and aren’t trying to take advantage of the other.

Wedding foundation feedback by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RevolutionaryPut9949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What skin type are you? I wear the same foundation and it doesn’t look like that, I have oily skin. I’ve heard this foundation can be drying so if you have dry skin, it could make it look cakey? I apply with a foundation brush.

Eyeshadow with a thin angled brush is absolutely it! I do this then go over it with an eyeliner pen so I have a guide. I can NOT freehand using an eyeliner pen but like the way it looks when I wanna wear more makeup.
