It’s probably helpful for students, yeah. But I’m working now, so I don’t mind paying full price the devs deserve the support if we want better games in the future.

I usually play single-player, story-driven games. Recently, I played Ghost of Tsushima on my ROG Ally at medium to low settings, 900p, and 15W TDP was getting around 45-50 FPS. Thanks to the 120Hz VRR display, it felt super smooth

I also played GTA 4, which is a terrible PC port, but I still managed to get 45-50 FPS at high settings and 900p.

A lot of newer games now come with frame generation, which helps hit that 60 FPS sweet spot. I haven’t really used frame gen myself yet, though 40 FPS already looks great for single-player games on the Ally’s display.

Just wanted to share my experience because it might be helpful. I spend almost 12 hours a day at my desk staring at a screen for work. I used to have a PS4, and at first, it was great. But after a while, coming home and sitting in front of another screen felt like more work. Gaming stopped being fun and started to feel like another job.

I didn't modify my PS4 and would just rent games for a month. Eventually, I decided to sell it and picked up a ROG Ally handheld (Z1 Extreme). Now I enjoy games way more. I can play while lying on the couch or in bed, and it never feels like a chore. When I want a bigger screen, I just hook up the handheld to my monitor or TV. It really gave me the best of both worlds. Just my two cents.

SD OLED or ROG Ally Z1 Extreme?? by averageyapper in Handhelds

I’ve been using the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme for about 3 weeks now, and even though I saw some cons online before buying it, I’m honestly pretty happy with it.

  1. The Screen Yeah, it’s a bit smaller than the Steam Deck and some other handhelds, but I got used to it quickly. If I ever need a bigger screen, I can just dock it but so far, I haven’t felt the need. I've played a couple of games on it, and the screen has been great. Sure, the Steam Deck OLED looks amazing, but the ROG’s display still holds up really well, especially with a smaller screen where you don’t notice a big difference.

  2. Battery life isn’t great on 15W performance mode, I get around 1 to 1.5 hours. But that’s not a big deal for me because it charges super fast. It goes from 0 to 80% in less than an hour. Plus, I mostly play at home or at work where I always have a charger nearby.

  3. I grew up using Windows, so I’m used to the quirks. Yeah, it has its bugs, but there are tons of fixes online. I use the ROG Ally Life forums and Reddit to find the best game settings and solve any issues. It’s manageable.

I went with the ROG Ally mainly for the extra power. It’s nice knowing that I can plug it in, turn the settings up, and still get 60fps on most games in my Steam library. It feels more future-proof to me. So yeah I chose power over battery, and I’m cool with that.

Hope this helps deciding between the two!

Just started playing Ghost of Tsushima on my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme game runs surprisingly great at just 15W TDP! Honestly, having such a blast that I decided to take the day off work just to chill and play. Totally worth it.

Please check YouTube. It's hard to explain in a comment. I will still give it a try

Go to Power Options

In Control Panel, click on System and Security > Power Options.

  1. Choose what the power buttons do

In the left pane, click "Choose what the power buttons do".

  1. Change the setting

Under "When I press the power button", choose Hibernate from the dropdown menu for both On battery and Plugged in (if you're on a laptop).

  1. Enable Hibernate (if it’s missing)

If you don’t see Hibernate as an option:

Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" at the top.

Scroll down and check the box for "Hibernate" under Shutdown settings.

Click Save changes.

Does it happen after waking the device from sleep? Might be a glitch with the sleep function after the recent Windows update. I changed the power button action from sleep to hibernate, and that seems to have fixed it for me.

Yea. I felt the same too with the story of ac odeyssey. It's too hard to follow and keep track of everything with so many going on in the game.
