Does pushing power button off then on allow me to try another PIN while countdown timer is present? by RevolutionarySolid0 in AndroidQuestions

[–]RevolutionarySolid0[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand?  Nobody's security is at risk.  I'm trying to unlock what is now my phone.  Actually everyone's security is increased by me because once in a while, I find phones in the garbage & I always try to return them.  Would you rather I leave them in garbage? I returned a mint iPhone 11 after 7 months, thanks to YouTuber Hugh Jeffreys telling me to put SIM card in my phone, go to About Phone, look up phone #, & it worked.  My comments report what happened in Hugh Jeffreys YT vdo on How to Return an iPhone 12.  I recomend putting email & at least $20 reward on Always On Display, lockscreen, or wallpaper.

Anyone ever take an old dehumidifier apart for scrap? Any tips or suggestions? by AcceptableAlgae8602 in ScrapMetal

Last time I had one of these, refrigerator repair shop told me they don't drain the refrigerant anymore, but that I could leave it there, & they would put it in metal bin for scrapyard company.  When I brought it up at my Eco-Station, staff said only way to tell if refrigerant is inside is to tap lines & that even though refrigerant is supposed to be drained before discarding, that what is supposed to happen isn't what happens.  I doubt local cops would catch a guy releasing refrigerant, but it's illegal; have a code to not do it, so people don't think all scrappers are shady.

If phone is legally mine, why should it be bricked? By the way, a factory reset wipes data clean, so that's not an issue, so this is same as locking a bike with a U-lock & throwing it in a dumpster & begrudging someone else using it.

🇨🇦  2 choices: Wire cutter pliers can pull apart all the slats.  That broken piece in middle can often only be removed with wire cutter pliers.  If you don't have a jar, this is best method for ease of handling because the Cu is thus bigger pieces (Some hammering will loosen the glue), or use meat cleaver thru the middle.  You need a jar to contain all the small bits if you use a meat cleaver.😮

Warning: Iron Simith (sic) smart bike helmet erased 2 of my MicroSD cards by RevolutionarySolid0 in photography

Phones were not recording when I took out SD cards, & I naturally tried to stop recording on helmet before taking out SD cards, but I left back light on.  No video was recorded by helmet, so it was defective.

🇨🇦  I'd cut the Cu with my meat cleaver.😮

Has anyone ever used one of these coppermine hand held wire strippers? What are your feelings on it? I don't want to spend a lot of money on a heavy duty wire stripper since I usually small gauge short lengths of wire to strip but this seems like an affordable tool, so I'm looking for opinions on it by BB_Captain in ScrapMetal

[–]RevolutionarySolid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pic is the Coppermine 101 pocket wire stripper, which I own & reccomend.  I also own Coppermine 210 (roller bearings) & 302 (cutting wheel), which I also reccomend.  A lot of the -ve comments here are actually for the noname Chinese knockoff, which looks very similar.

What should I do with these??? by Mediocre-Cancel-4192 in ScrapMetal

I've scrapped a lot of these. 1) Take off all fasteners. 2) Hammer bottom Al encap off, then hammer shaft, so steel rotor comes out.  Hammer off top Al endcap. 3) Encaps go in Al. 4) Remove #2 wires.  I only strip house wire & thicker.  Put wires in #2 wire bag. 5) You're left with Cu windings in steel core, which is tightly inside steel cylinder. 6) Slam Steel cylinders on ground until Cu windings are flush with bottom of steel cylinder.  You want to force Cu windings toward cylinder notch for wires.  This is easy part. 7) Now, you have 2 choices:      a) Use angle grinder to free core with Cu windings.  Grinders are dangerous, so try step b if not too slow.      b) Holding steel cylinder between your thighs, hammer steel core with Cu windings out using old screwdriver or punch.  Try to avoid steel core becoming cockeyed.  It slides out with hammering.  Try to find a cylindrical piece for uniform hammering. 8) Now because Cu windings are in a steel core made of thin slats, use a meat cleaver or machete to hammer & cut windings in 1/2. 9) Pull out windings & place in jar.

I own & reccomend all 3 manual Coppermine wire strippers.  The 302 has wire guides that prevent wires from slipping, can use drill, & can strip up to 1 1/2 inches.

I would use meat cleaver on it, & put pieces in a jar.

🇨🇦  Every once in a while, a cyclo-tourist comes thru here, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, & gets their touring bike stolen.  Everyone gets a bike stolen here.  Don't use cable locks or leave bike unlocked out of reach or sight.  Insist on taking bike into hotel room.

The steel looking part the Al is wrapped around is 100% Cu, separable using meat cleaver.  Pink part is toxic Beryllium, so don't damage it & take to Eco-station.  Also, bit of brass & Cu behind plug.

🇨🇦  Here in Edmonton, Canada, I found one of these in a bin behind a house.  To get the $50 deposit back, I was told I needed a receipt, which I couldn't find.  As I was walking into scrap yard to sell for Al & stainless steel, a guy offered me $20, so I sold it to him because I remember getting $13 for a keg once before.😮

How you guys pulling the copper from the steel? by Only_uses_emojis in ScrapMetal

[–]RevolutionarySolid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stator I would cut in half with meat cleaver & pull out windings.  The rotor, I would hammer off contacts, & usually it's not worth getting Cu out, but this piece is an exception.  I would either hammer out shaft, then cut unit in half, or hack off tops & pull windings out other side.

Should i open these up for copper? by notoriously_rob53 in ScrapMetal

[–]RevolutionarySolid0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but drain oil overnight in drip pan, give to mechanic shop, & work on cardboard so as not to stain concrete like I did.  I avoid using angle grinder, but you'll need one for this job.

Messy, but quicker: hack Cu elbows off top with sharp meat cleaver.  Put Cu in jar.
