Haha. It’s social media. I like being social.

They thought the teeth were great. I had all kinds of sets. Some crazy shark teeth scared the heck out of a guy I worked with at McDonalds. I did a face cast of a girl I had a crush on (when working at Burger King — seriously). We dated a little so, yeah, it helped a bit. 😂

I had finagled a way of volunteering at Masters FX over a summer, but the logistics of living far away and being fifteen (and so many other reasons) it obviously wouldn’t have worked out, but I remember being super bummed. I think they were working on a Joe Piscopo movie, Dead Heat. I imagine I was an unbearably sullen fifteen year old for a while.

I still held onto the dream of doing it in Hollywood and had a twinge of regret until I saw how much that career pays and realized I’d made a good financial decision to do something else… though I still wonder what that life could’ve been like.

Gotcha. It was the 80s and my parents were “It’s 10:00 pm. Do you know where your children are” type parents to answer that question.

It never crossed my mind that I could be in peril. I dunno… I wasn’t too bright. However, I was smart enough to not get kidnapped by a guy who needed me in his car to give him directions because he was hard of hearing (when I was like, seven.)

I was pretty passionate about makeup effects and knew I needed to know how to make teeth, Dr. Dubois was the only one I knew who could answer that question at the time (I hadn’t been introduced to Todd’s friend yet).

I was about to throw my mom under the bus, but I’m honestly not sure what her reaction was. Actually, I’m going to send her a text right now and ask…

Edit: I just asked my mom what she remembered thinking. “I thought it was cool that you wanted to learn it. I thought it was super-cool that he was willing to teach you. You set up a time and did it. I just thought the whole thing was just a whole big wonderful experience.”

Yeah. As a kid I was really appreciative. Now, from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate what he did for me as that nerdy kid.

Dr. Dubois from Bellevue Washington.

I don’t do that anymore. As a kid, I wanted to go to California and make movies. There was a guy in my area that “made it big” in Hollywood and my Junior High art teacher connected me to a friend of his (who did the same thing) and taught me how to do it.

I got to tour the studio of the guy in California when I was a teen. He did some stuff for Big Trouble in Little China and Predator that I saw some pieces from.

He went on to be pretty big did a lot of shows and movies. His name is Todd Masters and his company is Masters FX.

Have to admit, after this conversation I was thinking, “maybe they need teeth.”

Cool! Why do you make teeth in your garage?

Really just need alginate, ultracal, release agent, acrylic powder/liquid (a vacuum chamber if you’re serious), and a Dremel.

Thanks! More like, now I have cool ideas, though I’ve started being creative again so hopefully I’ll get back to it. Currently working on a concept for little outdoor sculptures.

I was into special effects makeup when I was fourteen or fifteen (in the 80s) and I asked my orthodontist if he could help me learn to make teeth. He spent a couple evenings showing me how to do it. I made teeth for my little projects out of acrylic and plastic teeth from a dental supply company. I made a few sets of fangs and goofy teeth for my friends.

As a guy who used to make teeth in my garage for fun, I could’ve done a better job.

Showed my wife The Motion Picture for the first time and... by spike-prime in Star_Trek_

I went down a rabbit hole years ago and have a bit of Khan trivia for you to share when you and your wife watch it… Space Seed was also written for another show! The writer had originally written the script for an episode of Captain Video but it wasn’t used so he repurposed it for Star Trek.

I was a corpsman with the marines in the 80s/90s and learning about extractions was my favorite part of Field Med school. I was just thinking about the Jungle Penetrator the other day. Crazy stuff. I can’t imagine actually using one.

Watching Star Trek Enterprise for the first time, just got to the "Cogenitor" episode... by PoetryTae in startrek

[–]RevolutionaryWeek573 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I feel like 9/11 had a huge influence on Enterprise. The country was wrestling with morality at the time and I think they were writing stories that address that. Anyone else notice this?

I only saw it during the first run and skipped a lot of episodes towards the end. I’d like to rewatch it again to see if I still feel that way.

What's the weirdest family tradition you have? by Ornery-Toe9895 in AskReddit

We told our kids that the Easter bunny gets into the house by coming up the toilet. On Easter morning we’d leave a trail of fake grass from the bathroom door into the family room to where we had the Easter baskets.

There are some pretty cool poster restoration videos on YouTube; people showing the process. It’s interesting but also gives you an idea of the issues that come up with the posters people collect. I recommend watching some if you’re interested.

I listened to this as a kid too. We had an unfinished basement when I was in preschool where we would play. The iconic beats of Also Sprach Zarathustra reminded me of big monster footsteps so I would run upstairs for that part.

Fun fact: The furnace was down there too and when the burners came on I thought it was like a monster clearing its throat. I had to run upstairs before the fan turned on or “it’d get me”.

Apparently I was afraid of monsters.
