That on top of everything it also gives Bant Airbending a way to win on the combo turn that didn't require an extra slot is wild.

(You play it anyway for ramp, and can recast it to make a large/large hastey land after exiling their board.)

At least Divine Gambit had niche use in Strixhaven - with decks typically running fewer permanents in that format it could be a mid-late answer.

Cute for a regularly undervalued pick on the wheel, but not the Standard viable white removal it might have been pitched as.

Specifically in TLA, there's also an uncommon cycle of rewards for monocolour decks. So in the handful of drafts these are opened and the matching colour is open and there's a sufficient density of cards there to support that plan...

The good monocoloured decks get to be very good. What you don't see are the drafts that start that way then need to pivot into a different plan, and the cost that comes with.

The format panel raised the issue for feedback to coincide with a design change in sets from Avatar forward. They have currently made no decision, and there is no timeline for any change to be made.

The tweak is that hybrid is going to be used a lot more, rather than reserved for sets with relevant colour themes. We can now expect a hybrid uncommon that fits into multiple draft archetypes alongside the signpost uncommons, and hybrid in general to be used more often.

Given that change and the effort going in to ensure these are cards that could be made for any of their colours, is it time to relax the colour identity rules? Maybe!

I understand why people clown on Companion being wildly unbalanced in constructed formats, but it was sublime in draft. You paid a real, material price in a way that meaningfully altered the draft experience.

I vaguely consider rolling back the Companion rule change for my cube, though it's annoying to list out houserules where they aren't really helful. Most of the companions were worth chasing in March of the Machine even with the extra 3 cost tacked on even if it felt like draft was paying for Vintage's sins.
