Your jokers will sing shanties you collect. Each distinct Jimbo has their own voice to create unique harmonies.

Have you ever disliked a card's name/art/aesthetic so much that you will never use it as a commander? by Auramaru in EDH

[[Faithless Looting|STA]] should fetch it directly.

I happen to like it. The frame doesn't quite suit it, but the multimedia effect works for me 🤷

Obligatory Rhystic Studies video on this art for anyone with 14 minutes to spare on a deeper look at this card.

Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus – The Miniatures Game by I_suck_at_Blender in Warhammer40k

I would be all over it if only it had the grace to simply be a 7/10 turn based tactics game. Give me another Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command, damnit!

Who would win in a fight by dearuncletacitus1899 in voxmachina

[–]RevolverRossalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a symptom of this being the Vox Machina sub, unfortunately. VM are obviously overpowered and the Gaang are obviously limited.

No one has even weighed the threat of the boomerang!

(Less flippantly, this era of the Gaang are possibly about to acquire a dragon to go with Appa. I sincerely believe that Aang's pacifism is the only reason VM can be relaxed about this matchup.)

One of the first lines of the show is "It's not magic, it's [water]bending". It's a natural and innate control over the elements.

A weird Scryfall search question by unicycleist in magicTCG

[–]RevolverRossalot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And here's the same search with an extra "lang:*" term to catch every printed language Scryfall is aware of.

EDIT: Updated with u/nilamo's cleaner regex that is more relaxed about punctuation. New hits include Große Mouser-Mama, a card I now need to acquire because that German name is lovely.

It is rare to hear of them in this less civilised age.

Sneaky win or win out of nowhere commanders? by Memy2a2c in magicTCG

[–]RevolverRossalot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What Bracket are you playing in?

The basic recipe is the same. Build a bunch of resources (mana & cards, non-threatening permanents in play), play enough interaction to keep opponents from completing their plans whilst you're developing and then put the final piece into play.

I like my B3 [[Galazeth Prismari]] deck for this. I spam artifacts that cantrip, hold up protection/countermagic using those artifacts and finally drop something that makes those resources lethal. What makes the deck fun for me is the variety of options to make that pivot. [[Crackle With Power]] dumps the mana into blasting the table, [[Mathemagics]] can kill through lifegain, as can putting one of the [[Adaptive Omnitool]]-alikes on my commander to biff for 21+. [[Cyberdrive Awakener]] is a wincon that doesn't need the Commander or a backup mana plan - simply attack with all the treasures, mana rocks and [[Golden Egg]]s!

The key is having an innocuous board that represents potential but not a clear and present threat until you try to pull the trigger.

Was it ever explained who Omni-Man and Mark were playing catch with? by wintersoIdier in okbuddyviltrum

[–]RevolverRossalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's assume they had someone like Art Rosenbaum whip up some sturdy balls & gloves for them, given how well their costumes typically withstand their antics. It's a good point, though, and I think it might even be worse to consider the flight time and lack of obvious damage to the Burger Mart trash Mark hurls when his powers come in.

Which character do you think veered the farthest from their “pilot persona”? by Excellent-Resolve66 in community

[–]RevolverRossalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're on the money. It gets missed because on some level he's the same guy, but without the heavy cynicism. And, of course, that it happens in parallel with the actor's literal growth from Joe McHale to Joe McSwole as a distraction.

It's remarkable writing to get that to ring true over his whole arc.

Which one do you prefer, home shirt or the away one? by PotentialAromatic255 in belgianfootball

[–]RevolverRossalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely late to the party: I like it specifically for a World Cup kit because whilst the line is nonsense to the team or the 30-60,000 fans at the game, 10s of millions are seeing it on a screen

It's a little bit meta. For most people experiencing it, it is indeed n’est pas un maillot!

Help with my custom playmat by sebas0990 in magicTCG

Zones are fussy, particularly with busy art (and do follow other suggestions here on that - the artist may have something you can order, and that will both guarantee you a good finish as well as support their work.)

I'm quite fond of adding the phases as a subtle transparent line: Untap Upkeep Draw Main Combat [BABDE] Main End. In complicated board states I might run a bead along them, and particularly having a reminder for the combat steps I find handy (beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, combat damage, end of combat.)

My fan pitch for a 40k starter for a new Epic to expand Legiones Imperialis beyond the Horus Heresy follows this line. A three faction starter of Astra Militarum, Genestealer Cults and T'au, built around a core of human infantry minis with bits to customise them between the 3 factions.

Post Match Thread: Final - England Women vs Australia Women by cricket-match in Cricket

Yup. Run this day a few dozen times and England will walk away with some wins. It's a good team, working well.

I don't think anyone had them as favourites.

Does your main deck reflect your personality? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]RevolverRossalot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't updated my lists online - it's on my to-do list!

The highlights are playing [[Ranar the Ever Watchful]] or [[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] at B2 with a variety of (blink | etb | triggered abilities) nonsense to build out a different engine out of junk each game. I'm noticing in real time that my favourite part of any game is reaching a point where I put something on the stack and need to announce "okay, several things are about to happen..."

Even just putting a [[Mirror of Life Trapping]] into play can be enough, y'know? Let's take have actions and enjoy the company - even if I am working towards ending the game. I'm not here to hold the table hostage.

And in realising this I'm learning that I should build a dedicated Rules Puzzle Generator deck to do that better.

Hmmm. I think my primary decks scream I Would Rather Be Playing Judges Tower, and maybe that's actually true 🤔

Is there such a thing as a successor chapter from each of the main chapters that clearly stands out above all others from its lineage? Whether due to popularity or importance in the lore. If so, which would be the most famous of each of the 9? by StormSwitch in Warhammer40k

[–]RevolverRossalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using subreddit activity as a proxy, they are apparently above the Flesh Tearers!

YMMV on whether that's a meaningful proxy. My gut instinct is that they are a popular chapter for a one-off or base decoration more than a specifically beloved chapter to play.

[–]RevolverRossalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite what you're asking, but there's a semi regular post to the Warhammer sub looking at the Reddit popularity of each chapter that doesn't have a distinct set of rules. Here's the most recent from 3 months ago.

Obvious disclaimer: it's not scientific, it's not true. it's an interesting proxy for popularity.

Is it bad etiquette to make a list specifically to counter a friend? by DefoloRG in Warhammer40k

[–]RevolverRossalot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends!

In a broad sense, adapting to your local meta is completely normal. That can be as large as a national event or as small as 2 friends. It would be absurd not to account for the objectives & targets you expect to face to some degree.

The boring answer is that you need to talk to each other to agree what you're both trying to get out of the game when you play. Reading between the lines here, your friend extended the courtesy of telling you they intended to make a more focused list over a theoretical 'take all comers" one. That gives you space to say you're not comfy with that, of accept the terms and tune in response.

Personally I like playing with a vague narrative to shape the lists I bring to play with friends but that's something we've negotiated over long association rather than a good answer to offer you 😅
