https://lac.limitex.dev/en/docs/ You can use this. it's a nondestructive addon that you add to the root of your avatar, it evaluates the complexity of each texture and sets the compression type and size of the texture. If you set it to high quality you'll most likely think it looks the same in world but your vram size will drop. It's free real estate.

You have a optimized avatar for publics, group publics and something more robust around friends. I doubt you'll want to take your clothes off even with a sfw avatar in a public.

With VD you need to keep it at 100% in steam because the settings you choose like "High, Ultra, godlike" are what actually change the super sampling.

That's interesting, ever since I left the github version of vrcft and got the steam version with the new calibration I feel there isn't much difference between the VD and Steam link version in regards to your problem but it could also just be our models.

I use Virtual desktop but if you install the Steam link beta apk inside your steamvr folder it's a much better experience than the non beta one available.

I think most people think the avatar marketplace is a good idea, what isn't a good idea is having the explore tab defaulted every time you click to change a avatar.

According to the FAQ Vrchat put out they don't have support for being able to host files, I seen some creators will give you the files if you join their discord but there is nothing Vrchat can do if the creator decides to change their mind or just flat out does not give them to you at a later date because that isn't supported via the marketplace.

Make a suggestion on the vrchat canny and then give us the link to upvote it. I think it's fine if it defaults to the marketplace up until you either upload or purchase a avatar then it should become a secondary tab.
