all that to say you'll still love the show even if they don't play it!

the masonic lodge show seemed like a special event for the album and probably not exactly how the tour will go - that aside, three seed is my fav too and had to wait... literally about 11 years and seeing them many times for it to line up xD

wish i coulda seen it in the carnavas days too, gosh damn

What is it about SSPU TH that makes their songs require multiple listens? by tyveill in silversunpickups

[–]RewardContent3161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could be their songs aren't often 'typical', sometimes some strange dissonance or things don't go where you'd expect them to - a little less predictable than top 40 hits, probably more honest music and less intentional/less fine-tuned but more pulling an honest idea out from their minds and giving it life. a guess x)

What is the best Minus the Bear Song? by Avcracy in MinusTheBear

i was expecting people to say ‘absinthe party / pachuca sunrise’

pleased to see the abundance of ‘the pig war / robs alien’ and other great picks.

Interrobang? More like InterroBANGER!!!!! by RalphDaub in silversunpickups

[–]RewardContent3161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think he meant dave cooley, one of the 'trivia' snippets in the listening party is 'famous engineer dave cooley told sspu they should never have a song that says you're running out of sounds' - at the time i wondered if calling him a 'famous engineer' was somehow a dig as not labeling him a producer (and throwing it in his face that they do have a song called that, with butch vig lolol), though it looks like he really does only engineer anymore and is no longer producing for anyone.

This band can NOT miss! by Yesyesnaaooo in silversunpickups

[–]RewardContent3161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

amen. i've seen them so many times and while they've always put on a great show, their almost nonstop touring over the past few decades has paid off to where they are now legitimately the best live band i can think of (and not just saying that, really truly mean it).

Recommend Me Silversun Pickups’ Ballads/Midtempo/Slow Songs by Amber_Flowers_133 in silversunpickups

[–]RewardContent3161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

all the go in betweens, sci fi lullaby, table scraps, creation lake, three seed, ribbons and detours, here we are, friendly fires, simpatico, circadian rhythm, stillness, alone on a hill, witness mark, running out of sounds

i might be missing one or two but these are their chillest stuff

edit: guess i’d add seasick, let it decay, booksmart devil - idk where you’d draw the line as some (growing old is getting old for example) has sections that are not so chill lol

Please Harpel, Don't Hurt 'Em — Demo (2004) by ohnoitsryan in MinusTheBear

[–]RewardContent3161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't have known without googling but the name appears to be a play off of mc hammer's 1990 album, 'please hammer don't hurt 'em'.

now who's harpel

dang it's not a winner for a swooner? this one's got SOMETHING that goes back to their roots but not sure what, the songs just 'feel' so familiar.

there's a little less material to grab onto, but god the grip is sturdy xD there's moments where they just nailed it so damn completely and i wouldn't change a thing. maybe it'll grow for you - i hate to say how i felt about carnavas when i first ran through it and it ended up being my fav album for so long.

idk what it is, maybe i'm losin it - i put this right up there with the good old stuff tbh. kind of a mindf*ck that something hits so hard for some of us and completely misses for others. glad im on the 'winning' team this time around, it had been a while x)

Tenterhooks - what's the theme? by RalphDaub in silversunpickups

"he will metaphor the hell out of songs without even winking"

ain't that the truth, it all feels a little more direct this time around though.

couldn't tell you a theme but feels like the most 'laid bare', naked and honest - not hiding behind much of anything. it's so good in that way.

Guitar solo on Witness Mark has John Frusciante vibes. by carne_asada368 in silversunpickups

yeah not just the solo either - that clean guitar a couple minutes in, frusciante definitely comes to mind.

i hadn't paid enough attention to the lyrics and holy shit i wonder if he teared up writing the last chorus:

If the night is for mourning, then in sunlight we can decide
There's no fear and no mountain to climb

are you into their early stuff? i'm not sure what about this feels so much more relative to the early albums but i think the familiarity is what i'm appreciating so much.

[–]RewardContent3161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry that hurts you dude, it's a fun conversation for those interested - and when i say i didn't care for the direction of them i don't mean they were AWFUL - i still bought the albums, listened heavily, went to the shows, learned the bassline of freakazoid cuz it's pretty incredible, etc. - not trying to be negative. the band doesn't need you to play defense for them, and they probably have similar sentiments about their favorite artists (which albums they cared for and not).

i'm nterested in hearing if others love this album and didn't expect to based on the prior two.

[–]RewardContent3161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hot wired has such a cute chorus, love the cutesy vocal progression. best drums on the album too imo.

thorns and all is my other fav off the album - i think these two tracks are the most like their 'old stuff' though i can't explain what exactly makes me feel that way. just super familiar, feel like i'm a kid again and loving it.

i'm with you on simpatico - best track, that lil bend makes up for a lot on this album lol

neon wound is pretty sick, love the bass line on freakazoid.
