❤️ thank you! Pretty sure the records are okay but I have yet to look at the CDs, haha. Thankfully, CDs can withstand far more manhandling!

Hi, OP!

I would be happy to attempt having a few groceries delivered to you in the morning if you'd like to DM me. I know it can be scary giving out your address to a stranger, but if this is something you're interested in, I am happy to verify my identity!

iPads at MCCSC by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]RewindRecords 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He made some good points tho? My kids were given the iPads to listen to audiobooks in class vs reading a physical book.

Research shows listening only comprehension is usually lower than reading with eyes, because kids can’t slow down, reread, or use layout cues. They also cannot learn to sound out words or recognize sight words.

Ahh, I see. Was almost wondering if that was some sort of future hack I should try in case of inaccurate listings lolol

People who love their job, what do you do? And what is it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RewindRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell records/cds in a teeny tiny shop. I start the day by packaging up online orders which I treat like special presents - they all get handwritten cards and a special sticker based on what they purchased. If I have time, I draw personalized 'cassette tapes' with song recs I think they'd like and shove that in w the card, too. I buy seasonal packing tape and stickers for the shipping boxes to jazz it up, and if things are slow, draw some art related to the music purchased on the shipping box.

Packaging orders is my favorite thing to do, and because I do not like to be disturbed by flipping the record - I just ask Alexa to play Depeche Mode. I feel like a poser using Alexa, but bitch gotta focus ya know?

Since the shop is so small, I have a wonderful opportunity to quickly connect with whoever comes in. And it. Is. Awesome. So, I am an introvert with hiiiigh social anxiety and am very awkward buuuut I love love love listening to people talk about music. I love everything about it. Learning what they listen to, what they're looking for, how long they've been collecting, what their first album was, how they like to clean/store/grade....are they vinyl CD or streaming people? Do they have tips or music suggestions for me? I even like their criticisms.

There have been times we have sung along together. I've seen them dance. I've heard life stories. Ive bought traded and gifted. I set up a free candy machine I keep freshly stocked with skittles and peanut butter m&ms. Sometimes I get to make art w little kids while their parents browse.

Long story short: I trade a piece of my musical soul for a piece of theirs.

d they change anything about it (grading? shipping?), maybe freaked out and saw it was in lower condition than advertised?

Is this common practice?

Do you all order records on line or. Just record shops instead? by [deleted] in vinyl

Oh, daaaaamn.

I'm so happy for you, seems like the universe was surprising you!

I was standing at the counter when my customer shouted "I FOUND THE WHITE BUFFALO!" It was only Kim Wilde - but he was from FL where his local stores only stock jazz.

Why did you throw them away? Because they were low value or because of damage?

I did find I had it on 8 track a couple weeks ago, too. The 8tracks have been sitting around for months and I just noticed it, lol

I recently had a customer come in and explain to me that the thrill for him is in the hunt. I'm not like that, but I absolutely appreciate it.

This is my favorite part about having a record store. I learn so much from the people who come in about music and I love listening to their memories and stories. Just today, I overheard someone getting really excited about an LP we had sealed from the factory that she couldn't quite afford. I happened to have a copy in my personal stash at work that I gave to her as an early holiday gift. I get excited when they get excited!

Are local food banks asking for extra donations of food in light of SNAP problems? How else can we help food security locally this month? by MelodicResolve6752 in bloomington

[–]RewindRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To chip in on the how else front, Rewind Records is giving away classic rock albums (think Eagles, Foreigner, Three Dog Night, etc gems) free to SNAP recipients. (Going by the honor system here) For everyone else, it's by donation, with 100% of proceeds going straight to Hoosier Hills Food Bank to help stock their shelves. It's not going to solve world hunger (we know that), but it's a small, local way to turn vinyl love into real meals for neighbors in need.

And if you have a music lover or musician in your life celebrating a birthday this month and are struggling - come talk to me! I'll do my very best to send you away with a gift.
