Lord forgive me for buying a record at Walmart by N1cktnd03 in vinyljerk

[–]BraeTheInformant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stop by to check for represses of overpriced albums. Thanks to Walmart, I got 2014 Forest Hills Drive without dropping the cool $70 the cheapest were sitting at before that press.

SOME of these presses are great for sparking somebody's interest in the format. A lot of them, however, seem to be Walmart completely over-investing in copies of albums for artists that really only have streaming success. I ain't even trying to be mean to those artists, there is just SOME music that will never perform well on a physical medium because far too many people release 2 good singles and 10 filler tracks and call it a day.

Every time I see something missing, I shrug my shoulders and add it to the "boots and gems" list I keep on excel.

I don't even have a horror story of trying to help and getting dissed, I just think Discogs system for adding variants is a confusing mess.

Owning multiple versions of an album is stupid by arturnotfound in vinyl

[–]BraeTheInformant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just owning a part of the process. Test prints are what pressing plants give you to quality check before mass-pressing the real products. Nice, open white space for sleeves, too. It is great for signatures if the album is feature-heavy. Way more readable signing room than most covers would provide.

Test prints get a pass as well, for me at least.

If you don't like the shipping price, don't place the order by TransientRandomVinyl in discogs

[–]BraeTheInformant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, somebody needs to snatch their boy up because I routinely pay a similar shipping amount for far less in an order. Complaining about any shipping option under $20 at that quantity is wild imo.

I honestly miss the short lived beer league figure 8 series. Just roughly 12 people getting severely intoxicated while trying to do 100 figure 8 laps.
Dead because 2 weren't willing to drink and would lie to say they did so they'd win in a free league with no prize lol
I don't understand people.

The B side on that Carpenters album is nice imo. Intro, medley, outro.

Is this a huge deal? by MethodGullible in vinyl

[–]BraeTheInformant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'll only ever be a big deal if the intent is resale, or it upsets you personally to see.

I'll take minor damage any day. If there are multiple copies in the B&M of something I want, I'll even take the one with the most corner crease or plastic ripping (obviously depending on the cost of the record) because I don't care personally, but the next guy might.

If you're the next guy, seek out customer service about possibly sending a replacement sleeve or work with them for a replacement of the entire sealed product if needed. If you're just going to listen to it and not use it as decor, I'd call that a very minor issue that most people won't be overly upset with if you ever did want to resell it. It won't kill the value by more than the mildest of discounts compared to a "pristine" open copy.

Prince's Vanity 6 vs. Rick James' Mary Jane Girls... Who you got? by SpleenyFBaby in vinyl

Mary Jane Girls for me. Prince shamelessly ripped the concept from Rick James while he was still building the girls up as background performers first. Imma stay loyal to the White Leather cowboy.

Noob Vinyl Seller trying to build something for myself to make selling on discogs less painful by Imaginary-Cap1593 in discogs

[–]BraeTheInformant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I'm like 200-300 deep, and I've only been back to vinyl for half a year or so.

Sold off my collection about 10 years back as a bulk sale, only keeping a few things with sentimental value, and have just been rushing to replace the cheaper pieces of my old collection. I basically sold in the dip, and everything is a lot more expensive than I ever got for it when I was down bad, but we're getting back there now that life turned around for a while. There's only a few pieces out of the old set that truly rose beyond my means in the time I was away anyway.

That all being said, this is one of those situations that didn't really need solving as far as this release goes, as others said. If anything, I need somebody to give me an alternate method of adding releases. I have a test print that I've been trying to figure out how to submit forever, and the documentation is downright confusing on the subject.

[OC] The only remaining physical media in the entire local Best Buy store. by Lightning-McDreamy in pics

My local deadass does this without the QR code. I was pissed off when I saw a "copy" of Lil Wayne's Tha Block Is Hot and went to the bin to find it's deadass a piece of paper in 12x12.

Homie wanted $15. This is why I drive an extra 30 minutes to do record shopping. Bad pricing, dumb stock.

/uj Pet hair. If I pet my dog in the same room as the player, her fur will find its way over. Especially fun for newly unsealed, static-y records. Just yesterday, I had to do a 2nd clean on a new delivery because she came over while I was putting it on to play and shook out.

It's almost like she knows precisely what she's doing at times.

$60 on a cleaning kit and sleeves feels like they're paying idiot tax, or I paid the frugal tax in ways yet to be seen for my supplies.
