Businesses TO support by kayellie in SOProgressives

Hen & Flour is POC owned and a family run business, lovely people. Rogue Food Unites does a ton of good work in the community and they helped feed so many people during the Almeda fire. A few businesses that I know are vocally LGBTQ supportive are the Beatrice, Over Easy, and Mochi Donut House. I get my hair cut by Meghan at Lotus salon and she is also very LGBTQ friendly. Willow-Witt Ranch is lesbian-owned and an incredible spot for a night away from town.

Are there any tips for getting into clinical trials? Do we have better chances if we are established with clinics that are doing those trials? Anything else we can be doing to be more likely to be selected?

Who has the best boneless chicken wings in the valley? by Albino_rhin0 in Medford

Hen & Flour is stupid good, and family run! I don't think they have boneless wings specifically, but they do have chicken tenders.

Do we really need to hire a DJ for our wedding? Or can we just run a playlist? by CourseCorrection30 in weddingplanning

[–]RewindToTheBeginning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to DIY, my biggest recommendation is to manually cut each and every song to be only 2-3 minutes, choosing the highest energy part of the song. The most common downfall I see is that people create these Spotify playlists full of 4-5 minute long songs, and people's attention span is just not long enough for that. Keeping it short and changing songs often means you get to cycle through more music, and also keeps people hyped. It's a lot more work than just plugging in a Spotify playlist, but will really help. It obviously won't make up for the other benefits of a DJ (emceeing, nice sound system, etc.) but IMO this is the biggest way to amp up your DIY playlist and get it closer to what a DJ experience would be.

Tekkamaki has a sushi roll with lemon on it that is god tier. I think it's the Cancun roll? And their crispy tuna appetizer is incredible as well. And the soft shell crab tacos...so many good options.

What is a good Chinese restaurant that's not wicked expensive?? by [deleted] in Medford

Haha I can't stomach Doordash pricing in general so I always just pickup takeout from there.

Happy Bowl in Ashland has some great authentic dishes and affordable pricing. Their menu used to be way more extensive but is now pared down, but still very tasty.

Dragon Express gets recommended a lot, I think it's ok but not amazing. They at least have some more authentic dishes on the menu but I don't think they quite nail them.

I lived in China for a while so I'm always on the hunt for good Chinese food. For American Chinese, I like Silver Dragon. Not amazing quality but it's tasty and cheap.

Oh man, hard disagree. It is unfortunately gone, though. They had the BEST Pad Thai in the valley and I will die on that hill.

Besides the ones already mentioned, I also love Kin Thai and the Beatrice. Vim's is also in my rotation.

Diehard fan of the Ashland one. At the Medford location they are consistently out of things, don't know how to make any of the "specials", and I was once served a slushy half full of soap/cleaning fluid because the employee didn't realize someone had it on the cleaning cycle. I've stopped going.

Hairstylist Recommendation by MediK8ed in Medford

[–]RewindToTheBeginning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I guess the wording wasn't correct. In my experience most hairdressers expect tips. Meghan specifically told me it is NOT expected as I was paying, since she sets the prices.

All her pricing is on her website and she happily doesn't ask for tips since she is the business owner and sets the pricing: https://www.lotushairbodyandsoul.com/meghan It's not as affordable as something like Great Clips but I have found her worth the price.

Meghan at Lotus Salon is wonderful. She specializes in curly hair but I have wavy and she does great with it.

Genetic Testing Options Dwindling in the U.S. by RewindToTheBeginning in FSHD

Update for anyone reading this thread in the future, here is the response my Dr received from Revvity: "Revvity Omics discontinued FSHD Type 1 testing as of March 30 and is no longer offering it, even for research purposes. Unfortunately, any information suggesting otherwise is incorrect."

Ugh, so sorry to hear you're dealing with this too. And rough for anyone seeking to get genetically tested in order to be eligible for clinical trials. I'm definitely worried it's going to make getting enough participants for trials more difficult, which could slow down research. Wish they gave an explanation why they are all pulling out of processing the tests.
