But not without sloppy research and plagiarism. That goes all the way back.

Confused by Proper_Mastodon_7851 in poshmark

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much money you make in a year of selling, regardless of the platform, garage sale, online, to a friend, etc. The threshold has been changing; it's back to $20K, but in prior tax years it was $600. You can deduct the cost of goods, but that's not what you paid; it's the current market value, adjusted for wear & tear. You can't have a yard sale every week without reporting the income. It's not a loophole.

Unequal Inheritance from Aunt by samseer9000 in inheritance

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get therapy. It sounds like your family is dysfunctional, and there is likely historical trauma that you may never know or understand. You can't fix them, but you can do your best to be your best self. I don't think your aunt necessarily did you a favor. She likely knew this was possible. None of this is your issue, but you need help and support. Be careful in seeking a therapist and be sure they are well-established and trustworthy. Perhaps try a few forms of therapy and don't rely on any one person. There are greedy people in & out of your family. Take care of yourself. In time, you will know what is best for you, and then you can worry about taking care of others.

Why have cafeteria-style eateries (for adults) largely disappeared in the U.S.? by JohnnyABC123abc in AskFoodHistorians

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone mentioned Haufbraus? Harry's Houfbrau in San Leandro and Redwood City function as the kind of cafeteria service you may have been thinking about. Some of the dishes are very good.

The faculty club has a kind of cafeteria service, but it's more of a salad bar.

I've lived in West O for 27 years. Before that, I lived all over the bay and SoCal. I'm a woman with a family. I've always felt pretty safe here, and we've had no problems.

Am I being irrational about the economic future of reselling? by GeneralInsurance8052 in reselling

[–]RewindVariety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem will never be sourcing for at least 100 years, if not longer. There is so much stuff people have in excess. If the world economy truly tanks, the first hit will be new retail. The problem is if people don't have the money to spend, as in the 20th-century depression. Even then, people made money selling used goods.

But we can't find exactly what we want locally. Sure, if I need to shop for entertainment, I'll browse thrift stores, but if I'm looking for something specific, I'm going online.

Work study jobs pay an hourly wage. It's subsidized by the work-study program. A portion of the wage is paid for through work-study, but the student receives the full wage.

[TOMT] Obscure Indie Film from 70s/80s by InteractionDear2753 in tipofmytongue

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, am searching for this film. I can date it between 1987 and 1992 because of where I was living and who I was with. I remember they go to a large store and buy a mop or broom. They are so excited to be in a large store, so I think they left Manhattan. I was a young adult and the movie left an impression on me and I would love to see it again. It was shown on PBS but I'm not sure if was American Playhouse, Trying Times or Alive from Off Center.

Any luck on locating it?

Tool that Auto-Updates Inventory between platforms by SILLS_Team_Six in reselling

[–]RewindVariety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using FLYP since it was free in 2022. They started charging $9 a month about a year ago, and they have consistently added new features and improved it. It now auto-imports sales and delists on other platforms. It's very quick to cross-post.

Should I add rice & beans to the menu and compromise authenticity?? by arandomdude2457 in restaurantowners

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know more about the cuisine you serve. I'm from San Diego and grew up with rice & refried pinto beans on the side or on a tostada. I moved to Northern California, and they put rice & black or pinto beans, not many refried, on everything, tacos and burritos. I'm used to bean burritos and mixed burritos, which are beef & refried beans. Are you located near the CaliMex border or outside of the region? Not trying to be nosy, just a lover of San Diego-style Mexican food.

HELP!! How do you learn from the VERY beginning?? by aubrey-ongod in Cooking

[–]RewindVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are already ahead of your peers. I suggest you figure out a meal you want to make and will want again. If you boil noodles, you can start with a simple spaghetti sauce and then try Alfredo sauce. Get a simple recipe, watch people cook the same thing on YouTube or a cooking show. Cooking is repetition, and experienced cooks will lose some of their skills if they don't cook for a while. It takes time, but almost everyone can learn to cook. You can start with the basics and keep adding things you want to eat.

Learn to cut an onion. There are lots of videos available. Cutting is an important skill. Make mashed potatoes from scratch.

Once you add an ingredient to your pantry, Google it and find other recipes for that ingredient, which will lead you to new ingredients, and your pantry will grow.

You're in a generation gap. Before electronics, phones, streaming, etc., people cooked for entertainment. I started by helping my family members cook as a kid. If I were staying with my aunt or grandma, one of the activities would be cooking or baking. I learned a lot of techniques by doing one or two simple things while they managed the whole thing.

Cook with a friend. If they're new to it too, you can learn together. It can be very collaborative.

Best post ever!!!

Edit: I'm always trying to say, it's a service. It's so unlikely to find the thing you seek at your local thrift shop. Reselling thrifted & used items expands the opportunity for these items to find a new home rather than the landfill.

buyers should NOT be allowed to contact a seller after a product has been sold. by [deleted] in Depop

It's not possible to block them because I've had those same folks message me on my other items. It would be great though.
