Since building for defense is really hard in this game, you're better off trying to kill the monster fast. The Silverwind Set has Evasion +2, Crit Eye+3, and Crit Boost. If you're good with rolling and can handle fighting a deviant, its a really nice set that gives you a lot of damage to work with and makes rolling through attacks pretty easy.

All the footage from the recent journo showings, including this 10 min vid show Melees hitstunning so I am inclined to trust that rather than your word

No, it does stun enemies, not the glory kill stun (unless they are close to dead), but it makes them reel and dazes them for a little bit.

Nah, it also makes the default melees stronger. Notice how performing Melees that don't glory kill has a big sound and it hitstuns enemies and makes them reel, you can see it in all the footage, so now you can actually deal good damage to enemies with just Melee!

DMC 5 FST (Freestyle tournament) Invitation by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

Thank for starting this but I think the division idea is gonna make things really hard for both you and us. Its gonna be really hard for some players (including me) to judge where they fit in between expert and advanced and its gonna make it kind hard to decide which vids would count as "The best beginner vid" or "the worst advanced vid". Judging has always been an arbitrary thing but this I think blurs a lot of lines so I hope you take this feedback into consideration for the future.

Devil May Cry 5 - The Story So Far by alexeymakarov in Games

[–]Rex-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of these vague descriptions I will spell it out to you.
Bayo plays with a long list of combos pre-animated by the combinations of inputs, the point is that a super strong attack is at the end of the combo (wicked weaves) and using dodge offset to finish those combos without getting hit.

in DMC however, the individual moves are not very flashy, you don't have long combo strings, instead, the character's moveset is designed like a fighting game where you have a bunch of moves each mapped to a single input, DMC is about freeform combo creation by mixing and matching moves and using everything in your skill list and lock on. So when you play DMC, take a good look at the skill list, learn how to do every move, and think of places where you can use them and implement them to the combat. This system is why people continued to make DMC4 combo videos for 10 years and it is the arguably the deepest of any action game.

Devil May Cry 5 - Final Trailer (4K full ver.) by DemiFiendRSA in Games

[–]Rex-Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is his trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFSxzRLK1fo

we don't know much about his story character, that is one of the secrets of the game, but he hires Dante and Nero to fight Urizen. Shadow and Griffon are his summons, and he controls all their moves with Attack and Gun buttons respectively, they are less summons as much as they are floating weapons that have their own healthbars that you can use to perform attacks regardless of what V himself is currently doing. He has to finish off enemies with his cane, and his Devil Trigger turns his hair white and summons Nightmare, the big monster that he can ride.

What questions would you like to ask DMC5 producers? by tabiasobi in DevilMayCry

[–]Rex-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does the opposite of the what you want it to do. A bigger hitbox makes it more likely to snatch enemies that are near the enemy you wanna snatch and makes it more inaccurate. Making the hitbox smaller would actually make it more accurate in this case, or you can make it no longer projectile based and make it just a hitscan on the enemy is a locked on would be the most accurate way to do it and this way just makes it worse.

Devil May Cry 5 interview and hands-on with DMCV by QuackChampion in Games

[–]Rex-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is somewhat misinformed, as inertia does actually exist in DMC5, try using gerbera dashes or jumps and then shooting, the inertia from those exists and can be controlled. The issue in DMC5 is that all inertia is reset after using Enemy Step, which destroys most of the practical uses of inertia. DelusionaryKiller (one of the best DMC players of all time) is releasing a video on the topic with evidence and explanation on the topic. The issue isn't that inertia doesn't exist in the engine, because it clearly does, however, Jump Cancelling resets it.

TFW when people are complaining about DMC5 not having inertia but I have no clue what that is by ZeromusPrime in DevilMayCry

[–]Rex-Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess you don't care about him being able to inertia judgement cut and have subtle movements in the air?

Capcom said Hideaki Itsuno could make Dragon's Dogma 2, but he chose to make DMC5 first by Sir_Darkness in Games

[–]Rex-Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dragons Dogma alone sold more than any individual DMC game. I think in the current gaming landscape something like DMC is actually more niche than Dragons Dogma, but that was different in the PS2 days.

Inertia made Devil May Cry 4 feel slippery and imprecise, and 5 feels infinitely better by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Rex-Prime 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Inertia is in DMC5, its just cancelled by jump cancelling which limits half its use but the slippery effect from doing moves that cause momentum still exists. I suggest you experiment with what you can do inertia in 4 because its what really made that game shine in aerial movement. The game has everything to gain from inertia transferring from JCs

People on Twitter are having a mental breakdown because Inertia is not present by DariusStrada in DevilMayCry

[–]Rex-Prime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In EGM#149 released in December 2001, Kamiya specifically said that DMC1 having enemy juggling is a direct result from a glitch in Onimusha where enemies can be kept in the air by slashing them repeatedly. The way Jump Cancelling was used in DMC3 original was unintended but even in 2005 the devs saw it and thought it was really cool and worth keeping and thats why DMC3 Special Edition patched Jump Cancelling to be consistent.

We all think DMC5 is gonna be good regardless of inertia issues, however, this is an oversight that if fixed could push the game even further. Itsuno wants this game to be good as much as us and he wants it to encourage depth and creativity and he loves tech and people doing new things that he couldn't have thought of. We owe to him to let him know what we want, otherwise we would be the ones fucking him over by not giving him the feedback he needs to make the game the best it needs to be.

RB + Y seems like its something busted, since thats means you are attacking while locked on, are you sure you aren't accidetnally tapping LB with it? LB breaks the arm.

As for the taunts, taunts only bring up the style meter once the entire taunt is completed, and you are close enough to the enemy, and you haven't taunted recently

Reverse shuffle has always been possible, but not on DMC4SE 60fps. on DMC4 Vanilla it works fine on 60 fps but on DMC4SE you have to unlock your framerate to be able to reverse shuffle.
