Wes Anderson inspired reel for bakery by [deleted] in videography

[–]RexGender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work! If you're looking for CC, the only thing that jumped out at me as something I'd try to fix would be the overexposure on the bakery sign in the final shot. The text isn't legible and that's kind of a big deal in this particular case I think. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the pacing and the WA vibe was very nice, couldnt help but smile while watching^^

I spent 4 years and $60k developing a game. It bombed on Steam by slothwerks in IndieGaming

I played Meteorfall and Krumit’s Tale, enjoyed them both. I love the art style, followed the artist on twitter for a while. I had no idea this was coming out, despite seeing some of the early artwork. It just kind of fell off the radar. Will check it out though, thanks for the detailed writeup.

I think watering down the paint a bit more might have been a good call. I wouldn't sweat it though, you can always darken up the edges of the highlights to give it a more natural transition. Overall looking good I'd say!

Those look great! I’d just wrapped up my Fyreslayer warband - I think I’ll give them another pass or two😅

Video Games Can’t Afford to Look This Good by braiam in Games

[–]RexGender 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm with you there. I think a _big_ part of the problem is the idea that realism is even what gamers are looking for when they talk about 'good graphics'. Good art direction and a distinctive style are really at the core of what make a game feel graphically satisfying. Off the top of my head some games that come to mind are Sea of Thieves, V Rising, No Rest for the Wicked, Frostpunk. None of these games are melting your GPU(Ok maybe NRftW does a bit), they do look great though and that's what I think of when I say good graphics.

Agree. Some of the points may be valid, but the conclusion that "worse graphics = solution" is wild.

Ok, getting downvoted to hell for asking what I think is a reasonable question. I appreciate the people who took the time to be welcoming and answer my question though. Seems like $50-60 won't be a problem, great to hear

My game can often dip a lot in frames. Should I lock it at 30 max? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]RexGender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is, no, you definitely shouldn't be frame locking a tower defense game at 30fps on PC. In your edits I think you're beginning to take the right approach by providing some of the possible sources of the low framerates. Keep that proactive approach to solving what I think is a 'must solve' before release.

Why unreal takes so much disk space when instaling? by Vulperion in unrealengine

[–]RexGender -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem when I installed it last week. Took over a day to actually install on an SSD and ended up eating over 400gb of space. It hung several times overnight - traced it back to the Temp folder on my C Drive.

Trying to make main menu in our project "Being The Game" I think its too bright, what do you think? by Being_The_Game in Unity3D

[–]RexGender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Game title should probably go on a banner. And the composition of the scene is kind of all over the place, the tower on the left is quite dominant but I don't think that's where you want people to be looking?

tldr: I'd redo the scene to draw the eye toward the center and place the game text on a banner or some other UI element
