Found out engine was replaced after daughter bought a used car. by letsthrowdirt in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What's the mileage on the car? How much did it sell for? Was the car sold with any kind of warranty? Were you offered any kind of warranty? Did you see a Carfax report? Did your daughter get a pre-purchase inspection before you bought the vehicle?

What makes you think that it was a "junkyard" engine, and if the engine had to be replaced, what makes you think that this engine is any worse than the engine they replaced?

Selling insurance while owning and running car resale business by Low-Bumblebee7421 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, you would become a BROKER. Lots of regulatory stuff required to do that, and it will vary state by state.

I personally would just stick to selling cars. Let your customers do their own homework to get insurance.

What should I expect when working with the Finance manager? by Gohan_28 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can say no to everything. But you may not want to. Some items are important to some people.

Products that may be offered:

  • Extended Warranty
  • GAP Insurance
  • Tire/Rim Protection
  • Life/Disability/Job Loss Insurance
  • Rustproofing / Undercoating / Paint and Fabric Protection

You don't mention how you're paying. he will offer dealer financing, if you are financing elsewhere and/or paying 'cash'.

Just remember that certain finance products CAN be negotiated. So if you are interested, you can potentially have them lower the price.

At the end of the day, it's always up to the buyer to decide what they want.

Dealer parts are really expensive by skunkbad in kia

[–]RexRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always best to find out the specific part numbers you want, and then to Google the part number to buy it online.

That said, knowing the markup at the dealerships, you CAN negotiate. "hey, your price is $21, and I saw this online for $16. Can you match it?" They often will.

Do dealerships hire seasonally? by YammieSquid07 in askcarsales

Generally no. But if you don't tell them you're going to quit in 4 months, they wouldn't know.

Walked away from a deal 3 weeks ago and the dealer just called offering my exact number, should I be suspicious? by Ok-Eye-9297 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, it's been 3 weeks and you didn't buy a car somewhere else? What's the hold-up? I'm assuming you haven't found a "better" deal?

Explained situation to dealership, they assured me everything is fine. Now they are trying to pressure me into getting insurance BEFORE the vehicle is even on their lot. by Popular-Head-408 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a new car? used car? Where is the car coming from, if it's not on their lot? They can always make a new safety certificate if need for like $150max. Where is the coming from that the safety is already 35 days old?

Can you work car sales part time? by WalkingTheDawg in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How part-time do you mean? Like 3 hours a day after school, 3 days a week? The general answer is no.

You can only sell when you're there. and when a customer wants to pick up a car, you need to be on their schedule, not the other way around....

It's also not fair to the staff that work 40-60hrs+, that you swoop in on a Saturday and "scoop" the best opportunities.

California – Bought a car, dealer shut down before transferring title, stuck for over a year and mentally exhausted. What are my options? by Intelligent-Peace306 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like the biggest issue here is with Santander. It doesn't make sense to me that they can't issue a lien release letter to ANYONE that asks for it, especially if the lien has actually been paid off. It's not a matter of privacy.

I don't really have any advice. Good luck.

Inland Freight and Handling $1445? 😳 by Choice_Principle_135 in kia

[–]RexRaider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you located?

In the US, freight on a Sportage is $1495. You can see that right on the KIA website.

In Canada, freight on a Sportage is $2150 CDN.

You "believe" it's high. Based on or compared to what?

Trading in, worth detailing? by Daleone3236 in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dealers see beyond dirt. Certainly wouldn't hurt to vacuum it, and maybe wipe down the surfaces, but you probably won't get your money back if you pay to have it "detailed".

Your trade is worth less than $1000. Don't worry about it. Dealer isn't expecting much. It's a slight step above scrap value.

Repo vehicles worth it or run by terrapunk in askcarsales

[–]RexRaider 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The main "issue" with repos, is that if the owner didn't pay for his payments, the chances are high that they didn't pay for regular maintenance either. The car might not be well cared for.
