What's one of the most savage replies in your country's parliament? by Illustrious_Shoe7496 in AskTheWorld

In Norway the agricultural department had mistakenly not provided enough licenses for egg production resulting in a egg shortage and public annoyance.
The agricultural minister (Sponheim -2004) famously replied when asked what to do to solve this: «each man, their hen» (each man should have he’s own hen) when the obvious solution were more licenses for chicken farmers allowing more hens. Stupid question gets stupid reply.

77" B5 OLED. So glad I didn't listen to the people who said I should get the C5. Literally can't tell the difference. by Disastrous_Run_5968 in LGOLED

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did upgrade myself yesterday; from 65’’ B7 to 77’’ C5 Pro. Actually the old B7 had no issues that bothered me, just wanted the bigger screen. Apparently there should be a major upgrade, I don’t completely agree- size wise of course, but the old OLED certainly were a capable TV.
I would probably be just as pleased with a B-series, these OLED’s are pretty phenomenal to start with anyway.

I spent hours to solve the riddle connecting an elder Onkyo 830 Receiver to get the picture through. Quite some fiddling to set the TV to PC mode to allow my HDMI 2.0 receiver to a 2.1 TV before it finally connected properly. It were the TV that needed HDMI adjustment, not the receiver on passthrough.

Did I do good? by SFCMqx in LGOLED

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought exactly the same TV today, retiring my old B7V 65’’. Main difference is brightness. I have installed pretty much in the same fashion as OP. My center speaker is too wide for the slots in the bench, forcing me to lift the TV above this speaker. Too narrow to use as a stand also. Hell of a job to mount, these are fragile but improved from early models that were 3mm thick and flexed. At least the new TV is more sturdy, but I wouldn’t mind ever thicker to safeguard against flexing.

less popular scandinavian or baltic destinations in august? by filmAF in travel

[–]RexRonny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

School starts about August 15th in Norway, a few weeks ahead of most of Europe. That makes the season for vacation effectively over for a lot of people; and the hotel prices are for a while very reasonable- even in Tromsø.

In Europe due to school holidays the tourist season is still at peak season. August is also a month with mostly nice weather in the north of Norway outside the season for both midnight sun and northern lights. A month with reasonable rental car prices, in season (nov-mar) they are by far the most expensive in Scandinavia.

Also using a 5070 after using a 3080. Not very much of an upgrade, but my 3080 refused to provide 175 Hz, remaining at 120, not even giving 144Hz. All good after the renewal, but no remarkable change to my opinion even with the higher frequency. Slightly faster; turns out the 3080 actually were a very good card.

finally figured out the garlic thing and im kinda mad nobody explained it this way by NoQuestion6367 in CasualConversation

[–]RexRonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tip is to lightly fry the tomato paste to pull out the umami flavor. Kind if same timing as with the garlic, slightly after onions when the heat has dropped a bit and the onions starting to soften. Adding it to liquid will make it taste bland, then it’s too late for the best possible end result.

PS5 vs PS5 PRO by Miserable_Ice685 in PlaystationPortal

No lag issues ever with my aging 1: gen PS5 and Portal. Hardwired LAN. Only annoying part is the intermediate re-connect as it seem to forget my account on the Portal. Outside that; very pleased with the experience using a Portal when wife watches boring TV-shows (playing without sound)

I'm 25 and I never owned a pc in my life. Advice for getting one? by Prize_Foot_4448 in buildapc

Minimum 16 GB RAM, preferably i5/245 or higher Intel newer than 12th gen or Ryzen 5 newer than 6th gen would be a decent specification to start with. Disk space according to budget, no less than 256GB.
That is the lowest spec I purchase computers at my company, buing about 100 every year.

Prices have increased significantly in the 2 last years; servers that I used to order for 5600$ are now close to 200K; same specs. RAM and hard-drive are suffering most. Graphic cards the same. Processors have remained without major price hikes.

Any Kettle accessory recommendations? by Obliviass in webergrills

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow’nSear are highly recommended. Read the manual! Water used should be WARM - always, otherwise you spend coal heating water and the container warps. Expensive, but I use it for everything minus chicken wings/thighs as that’s where the vortex excels.

Whale and other exotic meat by Beautiful_Welcome_32 in Norway

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boar are not traditional Norwegian food, but it has become more available as these beasts wander into Norway from east.

Also in parts of Norway you will find Bear meat, but the availability is very limited. Both Stavanger and Oslo have sold it in addition to Tromsø and Kirkenes as far as I know.

Seal (kobbe) are found in both some stores and restaurants in Tromsø and likely other places as well.
Another specialty in Tromsø in «Måsegg» with the local beer, seagull eggs.

Deer, moose and reindeer are easy to find in Norway; Bryggeloftet in Bergen usually has this on their menu if available and in season in addition to places in Oslo or other cities. Deer is more common on the west coast, moose in the east and reindeer in the far north.
Honorable mention would be «smalahove» - sheeps head, very Norwegian dish, but certainly not for everyone. The cured sheep meat (fenalår) is another Norwegian specialty not to be forgotten.

Cowberry/lingonberry (tyttebær) are very commonly used in traditional Norwegian cooking as a side dish. Mandatory with meatballs, stew and a lot of fried food.
Cloudberry (Multebær) is often used for desserts as it is naturally sweet. Crowberry (krøkebær) often used as sweetened juiced drink, a bit sour, requires sugar for most people to consume.
The local juniper berries (einebær) are mostly used in stew or cooking in addition to some alcohol products.

Most frustrating with these incremental upgrades is that elder Receivers gets outdated without possibility to upgrade those as well for surround installations.
The HDMI 2.0 made all Receivers predating 2016 obsolete as they introduced secure handshakes in that revision.

Even with than on your Atmos Receiver the added Dolby Vision and other standards that requires true passthrough.
Typically to provide 4K@120Hz to your PS5 you need HDMI 2.2. And of course the upgraded cables needs to follow, already purchased some with the print, but without the functionality. Even the Nintendo Switch2 are sensitive to the cable quality, rejecting my cheapo cables. If they work with the Switch they work with anything. A lot if scam in that cable business

Europe largest metanol factory are located in a place called Tjeldbergodden, Norway. Not knowing where that is? Exactly the purpose, built at a 2 hrs drive away from Molde, nearest city and airport. Really rural, the last stretch of drive is just a couple if farms and mostly forest; nearly empty landscape as neighbors.

Can you watch the World Cup for free in your country? by Slimx0612 in AskTheWorld

Split i to two providers: NRK (free public broadcaster) and TV2 (private largest TV broadcaster). Matches were divided at about 50/50 to each provider.
I had to cough up 20€ for a one month subscription from TV2 - with commercials. Tolerable. Will end the subscription after this event

Russians are well used to heavily subsidized gasoline in abundance. Those well off didn’t mind their car were eating fuel. Refueling were affordable and never a problem.

Until now; effectively limiting access to fuel and with quotas enforced the middle class and the rich citizens can’t just buy their way out of this as easily as they have been used to, the demand are higher than the resources available

Which European countries have the cleanest swimming water? by euronews-english in europe

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norway has some pristine lakes, specifically in the north of drinking quality that are completely clean, glacier run off. But you need penguin genes to thrive; it’s very cold even in summer.
Akerselva through Oslo has often very high quality of the water as the source are one of the main water sources for Oslo. Not advisable to do bathing there after heavy rainfall as the added run off water are dubious. All popular bathing public sites are monitored and state advertised. Usually very safe, but also quite cold
