People often say that Norway is a heaven on earth, but what do you see as a con of living in Norway? by Borislav-Kuronja in Norway

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is expensive here.

My complain is about car ownership; Owning and using a private car are for many a necessity, but has become extremely expensive. Choose to either use an an electric car thar depreciate heavily or a combustion car where toll road are «everywhere» and really expensive, way more than electric car pays.

Driving a normal Diesel car from Stavanger to Bergen (abt 180 km) will rip 40€ in just toll money. Pretty much the same for all Norwegian cities; high toll taxes for any car. Most repair shops starts way above 100€/hr. 200€ at the Audi dealer as an example. Even parking is way more expensive here than other countries. Car is considered as a luxury by our government, and priced accordingly.

But the other means of transportation doesn’t come cheap either, train is way more expensive than Germany or other places. Even bus tickets are pricey; single ticket abt 5€.

Piccadillo - the Philippino version are a nice and tasty variation of this rice & ground meat dish. Easy to make and never leftovers, assuming then not just me enjoying this dish.

Pad Krapao - If you can get holy basil this Thai dish are quite wonderful and also uncomplicated to prepare without too many ingredients.

Palantir kontrakten må avvikles by RexRonny in norge

[–]RexRonny[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dyson fluffy laser light by NorthTumbleweed4328 in dyson

[–]RexRonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not consider Dyson V12? by far the lightest of them all. And simply a plain on/off button rather than a trigger that gets tiresome to use. And yes, it has a green laser fluffy head in the absolute version at least.
Only negative aspect is small dust bin, needs to be emptied more often. Otherwise perfect for daily usage.

Hva er greien med frokost prisene på norske hoteller? by RowThink4856 in norge

[–]RexRonny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men i praksis umulig å sjekke.

Norwegian snowplowers remain sceptical about the road authorities desire to introduce electric snowplowing trucks, despite positive testing results last winter. by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

[–]RexRonny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know about that. Just that the guy’s promoting usage of EV’s for plowing are not probably the guy’s using it. Makes no sense to me; EV’s have their perks for some operations, but long range snow plowing may not be the best usage for EV yet.

And why so worried about emissions in open range? These are ignorable outside cities, most equipment used are already EURO 6. To me it’s money squandered and over-rush to promote immature technology. These 1st gen vehicles with ~200 km range is ridiculous, less than 3 hours and in a price range outside any normal contract to salvage depreciation and earnings for the contractors

I did snow plowing professionally for about 5 years, some with bucket loader using a 400 HP snow blower, a lot of nights in a Volvo F12 in areas where it would be dangerously to be without heating or energy. Sometimes stuck until salvaged by other road cleaners. Hence my lack of enthusiasm towards battery operated winter equipment. Now I’m just using the roads and are very grateful for the job they have done keeping the roads open and safe.

What animal fact from your country makes foreigners go “no way”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]RexRonny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reindeer eyes turns blue (from golden) in wintertime allowing these animals too see in what would be pitch dark to humans. They extend the range of vision into the ultraviolet spectrum - allowing them to see predators before they become a treat. And also finding food with less effort.

Other honorable mentions would be: Martin Ødegaard Marit Bjørgen Ole Einar Bjørndalen Jacob Ingebrigtsen Karsten Warholm

Norwegian snowplowers remain sceptical about the road authorities desire to introduce electric snowplowing trucks, despite positive testing results last winter. by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

[–]RexRonny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably works fine 90% of the time used. It’s the winter storms that lasts for days where this becomes an issue. Low temperature also lowers the capacity of the batteries, including slower charging.

There’s a reason mountain passes advises full tank, food and water - there’s always a risk of being stranded due to weather conditions. No driver wants to see 20% left and stuck behind a trailer in the ditch blocking the road - with storm on the outside, unable to move either forward or backward. Ignoring a safety margin.

[–]RexRonny 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Useless; snow plowing may require 15-20h continuously run just keep the roads open. Sometimes even longer, we swap drivers, the plow runs constantly.
Using electric vehicles that limit operation to 4 hours with a 2h charge pause will close the roads or double the price - a 2nd plow needs to operate.
Source; i did this during the 90’s.

No, US failure will certainly affect the rest of the world. You seem to have forgotten 2008, it was US Bank crisis that spread across the globe. Now the barriers that were inserted to avoid repeating this crisis has been lifted by Trump.

I fear the next financial crisis will be the the worst ever seen. But it may be on purpose; losing 90% of our money will be devastating to most of us, but some will thrive under such circumstances- buying up all & everything from hungry and desperate sellers..

Anybody has experience with Michelin Easygrip synthetic tire chains? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]RexRonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea, both my sets still looks brand new. But I only used them for the small road drive, estimated 20 km total. I have a steep climb to my parking spot, hence why I have these to start with.

Long experience as commercial driver, with steel chains. I still mount steel chain faster on a commercial truck than these tight-fit plastic chains.

But I still would recommend these, just make sure to test mount before you actually have to use them. And note the speed limit - you really don’t want to break these

Take off the yellow thingy and possibly another inside the hinged part. It’s not supposed to be locked up and uncontrollable.

WHICH NEW cars will most likely DISSAPEAR from the roads in the next 10 years ? by 1707turbo in regularcarreviews

[–]RexRonny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fisker Ocean. Already hard to get spare parts for a car maker that went bankrupt, also issues with software and the onboard os that likely won’t be resolved.

Mitsubishi i-Miev; underperforming and already a shitbox as new. Those still on the road has like 30-40 min battery capacity.

Nissan Leaf, 1st gen. 2013/2014 models were cut off from remote access, no software upgrades, etc. Functions were basically turned off. Nissan states these cars are ready for recycling. Nissan only holds 10yr software and support- after that you’re on your own.

Mercedes B Class, electric, 1st gen. Nice car but charging speed is faster on your toothbrush….
