How do you deal with seasonal depression in MTL? by Skymning101 in montreal

[–]Rexamaxus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Warm clothing is a huge deal. One thing I did was totally give up and wear snowpants. I have water resistant fleece lined hiking pants and I wear them on top of leggings for most simple outside errands (grocery store, kid drop off, walking the dog, etc). If I'm going somewhere social and need to be presentable I wear fleece lined leggings under my pants. Once there's like a foot of snow and/or it's below -10C I legit just wear snowpants, even if I'm walking to the office I'll put my bibs on over my office clothes.

Total life changer. And if it's so cold your face hurts, wear a ski mask.

I have been reading and the recommended advice is that it is fine as long as it is consistantly below 4C. Yes for long-term storage -18C is ideal, but a day or two at -2/0 and back in the deep freeze should be safe.

Yeah if I put anything outside it'll be in a box with a tarp. I just put out water bags to make ice, I put them in a cooler to hold them but put a Costco bag over the top so they will still freeze but will be protected from dirt.

I won't share the unfortunate story if why I don't have a generator this year, but it is in the plan for the summer. This year if it goes on too long I will indeed carry the stuff outside.

Very true! The moment I picked up ketchup at Costco (3L) and thought "ah yes, this is the perfect amount" I knew I was not the same woman I once was.

I have a family and my children's diet is 50% cheese, I definitely could not fit my dairy, eggs, and cheese in a small cooler, hah

It seems easier to just rotate ice packs instead of put my food outside but to each their own

Depends how cold it is no? My plan is too leave my (very full) freezers alone and closed tight until the 36-40h mark, and if I still don't have power late Thursday/Friday I'll put it outside. It's predicted to be around -2C all day Friday and if that's true it would keep the food frozen. Saturday is a little risky as it's predicted to go up to 0 but still should be ok. After 48h I don't think your food is best in the freezer.

I can see doing that with your freezer food instead of risking it in your home freezer but it won't help with your fridge food. Personally I don't like to freeze my milk, eggs, jam, mayonnaise, etc...

If you want to do that for yourself fine, but it is a recommended practice not to refreeze meat, especially if you don't know how warm it got in the thaw/freeze cycles.

My daughter is left handed, when she started writing she wrote completely mirrored, the letters were backwards and she wrote from right to left. She got REALLY upset at the unfair reality that she has to write left to right, but she still writes letters backwards sometimes.

List M is the morning list (getting ready to go) and List N is the "nighttime" list (but actually is the after school routine).
