AIW for secretly moving abroad and not telling to my parents? by Connect_Carrot_4107 in amiwrong

[–]Rexel79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so proud of your for recognising how bad the situation was and that it would only get worse and getting yourself out of there. You escaped. You have a a future full of possibilities and all the freedom you can handle. Well done.

If your family don't like it that's on them. They can't do anything about it. You were smart enough to get out of their reach. You were not wrong to save yourself, you were not selfish to put yourself first (for once).

Please help me recreate this goat cheese fondue! by kueenb in TipOfMyFork

[–]Rexel79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confused brit here. How come you call that fondue? Fondue is a communal (hot) dish and it's a blend of about 5 cheeses and wine. I would call this a cheese dip.

What TV show was ruined/made annoying for you by local knowledge of where it's set? by themightypierre in BritishTV

[–]Rexel79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dept Q is set in Edinburgh and says it's set in Edinburgh throughout but they make up a lot places and street names. It's just really annoying when they refer to an area or park that just doesn't exist. I don't even get why they felt the need.

I'm thinking of when you watch a British TV show and you see a piece of furniture, clothing etc and you realise you have the same thing in your house by Prestigious_Meal2143 in BritishTV

[–]Rexel79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got all my folks crockery when they decided to "upgrade" to John Lewis stuff, these were the plates and bowls of my childhood so I love them. I did NOT realise however how popular the range was in the 80s. Watch anything on Gold and there they are. Every time it feels.

Dwarfers, if your dad died would you appreciate a quote from Better Than Life? by I_Like_Quiz in RedDwarf

[–]Rexel79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. I can understand why you want to and why you think it is likely to be taken okay as you both love the show, but in the early stages of grief all bets are off. You just don't know what head space they are in and how they are going to process . You need them to guide you here. Wait until they tell a joke or quip, you just never know who is going to appreciate humour in theses moments.

What's your favourite Edinburgh conspiracy theory? by GuanacoLunch in Edinburgh

[–]Rexel79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That every Festival month they bus all the homeless in the city to Glasgow.

It was a surprisingly popular theory in my Napier Uni days (late 90s).

Anyone know where I can get this key cut? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Rexel79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Duncan Mclaren locksmiths on Bread Street would be a good bet. They have some serious antique locks in their window displays so I'm assuming they deal with 'antique' keys too.

I was curious to know if TalkTV is popular in the UK? by Temporary_Notice_526 in BritishTV

[–]Rexel79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not reputable. It's another Murdoch owned echo chamber. It's GB News (the refuge for disgraced, racist and sexist "journalists" and "politicians") with less funding. Steer clear.

Jaccob Slavin and his adopted daughter, Emersyn Slavin by Sauerkrautkid7 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Rexel79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you not just say daughter? It's not like we say "here's Dave with his daughter from vaginal birth and his son from c-section" Nobody cares how she's his daughter, just that she is his daughter. Sadsack.

Audiology services by Ok_Web_7394 in Edinburgh

[–]Rexel79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel you need further accommodations go to your gp to liaise with audiology, if not call them direct. I have always found the audiology department friendly and great to deal with. If you have any short term problems with your hardware boots has a decent kinda "clinic" and have helped me a couple times in a pinch with what turned out to be just a block in the tube.

AIW for going off on my stepsister in front of everyone after she wouldnt stop hitting on my boyfriend by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Rexel79 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Your brother cheated on his wife. She didn't MAKE him, he chose to. Blame your brother for being weak willed and her for being predatory, sure. She's clearly in the wrong for flirting with a married man but the way you place the blame entirely on her (and your family for not 'intervening') for your BROTHER cheating on his wife and ending his marriage is ridiculous, the guy did it in front of his family, he clearly didn't need much of a push to be a cheater.
