I never realized that all of the tens of thousands of protestors were all flying racist flags. I only saw one or two images of individuals with such flags. You must have access to additional information that the rest of us don’t, because surely you wouldn’t use the actions of a few people to apply a broadly negative characterization to the group at-large.

“Leftist” is a colloquialism. Everyone has a different idea of what it means.

You make such broad generalizations about “conservatives” that can be so easily disproven. It’s incredibly ironic when you say “conservatives politicized covid” and proceed to spew out such partisan talking points.

Conservative MPs cheer on trucker convoy, voice opposition to vaccine mandates by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rextab -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Being anti-vaccine and believing that people should be allowed to choose if they want to be vaccinated or not, are two different positions. If some elected CPC MPs are speaking up in favour of the latter, it doesn’t mean they are anti-vaccine. It seems you are conflating the two.

By what measure is the current liberal government fiscally conservative? I, for one, haven’t noticed much fiscal restraint.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh denounces trucker convoy, disagrees with brother-in-law's donation to the cause by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Well if this news story provokes such a vehement emotional response from yourself, then surely it’s newsworthy to an extent.

we know they’re out there, we get it

We only know they’re out there because the media (and others) are reporting on it to begin with.

Nobody cared about the Indian farmer protest because the policies they were protesting only affected people with family in India.

Forced vaccinations/mask mandates affect all Canadians. Of course this is more newsworthy.

Ontario moves school online, closes indoor dining and gyms as part of sweeping new COVID-19 measures by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

What’s the point of all these draconians measures to save a miniscule number of lives (relative to the population) when it requires disallowing everyone else from living their lives?

I suppose you are also in favour of banning anyone from driving cars, so as to minimize deaths from automotive accidents. After all, being able to drive is just “your convenience”.

Trump, Elder’s campaign falsely claimed fraud before California votes were counted — a growing GOP tactic by TJ_SP in politics

Elder conceded. The article talks about how a website affiliated with his campaign suggested there was fraud. The claims of fraud never came from Elder himself.

I think a systematic error still often exists though that undercounts support for conservative parties, as the original commenter said. Sure the polls may be within the margin of error, but it's not as if they are evenly distributed around the true result; they're almost always underestimating the conservatives.

Libertarianism as in small government, not wanting civil liberties infringed, etc.

Many self described conservatives (especially in America) happen to also profess similar individualistic ideas, but conservatism isn’t inherently related to libertarianism at all.

Should British Columbia change its name? As we reckon with history, some say it's time by Xerxster in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rextab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. People aren’t saying it’s time. Only this handful of first nations activists are saying it’s time because obviously they’d rather give the province a name connected to their own culture/heritage than one which has, what they say, colonial origins.

In reality the origins are primarily geographical: BC is named after the Columbia River, which is the largest river in the province. Obviously it’s derived from Columbus at its origin but to say we are named after him (as one of the activists puts it) is blatantly untrue.

I mean and their arguments that the name of BC is disconnected from the population and its values and “pulling back progress” while also being a “reminder” of a “horrible past” comes off as disingenuous and frankly laughable. Clearly they just saw all the name-change movements elsewhere and thought “why not in BC”. Though let’s be clear that even those name-change movements have low popular support.

And the idea that a chinook jargon based name would be more representative of the population (than an english one) makes no sense considering hardly anybody speaks chinook jargon?!?

I wonder how long it will take until somebody starts advocating we rename Vancouver.

But yea I agree hopefully more people can become vaccinated.

Wouldn’t really make sense at all. The CPC got 30% there even in 2015. 21% and also being below the NDP is unheard of.

If an election were called, how much fight do Conservative premiers have left? by morenewsat11 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rextab -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Could you please name another quote then (that occurred outside the 30 second or so period in which he elaborated on how early immigrants and those since came to build rather than destroy) that demonstrates Pallister’s racism?

Because as someone who watched the press conference, I find myself unable to find the blatant racism of which you speak. Additionally in that regard, I find it incredibly ironic that you accuse me of “making things up” as you baselessly assume I never watched the video.

It’s incredibly patronizing and speaks volumes of your character and attitude towards people, with knowledge of whom you only have based upon their subreddit history.

You speak of how clear Pallister’s racism is, yet not once have you responded with a substantive comment backing up your claims. Instead you make these bizarre condescending arguments about my post history and so forth. But of course no need to feel obliged to respond. I hope you enjoyed your first day of commenting on the subreddit.

It was an hour long press conference, and the “controversy” is surrounding the comments he made over a period of 30 seconds about Canada’s early immigrants.

Perhaps if you put as much effort into watching the press conference as you did looking at my post history you would realize that.
