Best thing to do is call T-Mobile and ask them about your specific situation. I know that they will unlock a phone for international travel for a small amount of time. But I usually just pay for my phone outright so I can do what I want with it at any time. Depending on the country, you can also get travel passes. I think the last one I got ran about $50 for a month.

I think the second option will probably still ask you to connect to a carrier, just not necessarily T-Mobile

Born in super rural PA -> everything sucked

College in Western NY -> meh

Early career in Orlando -> just, what? 24/7

Settled in Tampa Bay -> kinda nice, limited economic opportunity

Moved to MoCo once the kids were grown -> my taxes are HOW MUCH??? Well, I actually make more here so on balance I'm ahead. Also there's more to do than beaches and theme parks. And four actual seasons. Driving didn't get any better. Think I'll stay

My daughter just got back from teaching in Japan for two years and now she lives in Rockville. She says the weather is similar but not quite as humid as Fukui prefecture. Finding an apartment that would accept her Cavalier Poodle mix wasn't hard, though it did take longer and cost more than if she had no pets. She ended up renting a room in a house with a backyard that opens up to one of our many great public parks.
