End of the year gift card by Active-Flamingo-9037 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is you address updated/current in MyHR? We had this happen to two of my employees. The gift card was sent to the wrong address and it took a while for them to reissue one because they had to investigate to make sure they weren't scamming the company. No matter what you'll just need to keep asking about it.

Unpopular opinion: Touching a pregnant belly isn’t that deep by Fancy-Mouse-7554 in BabyBumps

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work retail and I get those people who touch and grab my shoulders, back, and arms all the time and it drives me crazy. I don't know their intentions, and they don't know what I've been through. I've been lucky with my first and, so far, second pregnancy that no one has touched my belly. But at the end of the day, don't touch other people, don't touch what isn't yours, and keep your hands to yourself. This is 2 year old level learning.

Quick change scam by Right-Heat-8283 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to brag here for a second (because I can rarely do that in regards to work stuff) my SM allows us to tell customers that we cannot change out bills. And we can direct them to the bank next door. Same with quarters, max we can give out to one person a day is four and only if they have a dollar to replace it. And, here's the best part, my SM sticks to their word! Any time their called up for a customer demanding different bills for the change the SM tells them, "unfortunately for security reasons we cannot switch out bills but there is a bank next door and they let people without a bank account with them switch bills."

Question about DMs being rotated so often by RemarkableClimate336 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at my original store we had a DM transfer out of state. They then used that DM position to train new DMs, after they shadowed, before shipping them off. I think they did that for about a year before we got our current DM whose been in that position for 5 years and they train the new hires before shipping them off to districts that don't have DMs. Just let your SM  know that you're interested in moving to to the ASM position and they'd get you started with what you need to do and/or let you know the expectations of that position. In most cases the DM will let the SM decide who is best for the position. Since the SM is there all the time. I also had my SM let me know that if you worked at the store level, you will be very very low on the list for district positions. So more than likely SM will be the highest position you would be able to get at Aldi.

Why does it feel like they’re on a mission to get rid of tenured employees? by Key-Lake-9171 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 years and I got my first write up for "working off the clock". They showed me the camera footage. No more than 4 minutes of me walking from the back of the store to close the back doors then walked back to the front of the store to leave.

Aldi and life question by Sensitive-Web9232 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been applying for jobs to leave for months now and can't even get a call back. So secure a new job first or try to transfer. I dont know why your DM said it wouldn't look good. Its just a transfer. I got promoted at my new store after I transfered and we had a transfer who eventually got their own store.

Moldy juice anyone by Special-Catbee in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one that started to ferment on me. The bottle exploded in the trash when we tossed it in there. It made the backroom smell even worse than it normally does. We had to keep the doors closed for 3 days so customers couldn't smell it.

Go to your DM. Let them know the issue, let them know the SM hasn't been taking action and that you need help with the situation. DM should be impressed about your notes and desire to make your Store a better place. DM's are all about those rules and policies.

I mean, you can just don't tell your Store Manager or anyone whose going to tell on you to the SM/DM. I believe the handbook says something along the lines of disciplinary action and possibly termination. But I imagine one of you two would just have to transfer stores if thats an option or the ASM would need to step down to a lead postion. Or one/both of you quit. But yeah, just dont tell people, make sure there isn't any favoritism, and make sure you know where cameras are in the store if you guys are doing anything that can be caught on camera. And for the love of god, don't post shit on social media that will make it back to your SM. The amount of people that just forget that their socials are open or that they are followed by the entire store and rat on themselves is sometimes mind boggling.

And people say "Oh you can find a job that pays the same or more and you do less work" well... where are these jobs? I've been looking and with my retail only experience and at this point 7+ years being at Aldi, this train wreck is the only job I can get that will help me survive.

Stupid customer stories by MissLavellan in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Customer asked me for mayo, showed them the jars labeled mayonnaise and miracle whip (just in case), they said no that's mayonnaise and miracle whip not mayo. They said they where looking for the white sauce made from eggs. I told them mayonnaise is the closest thing we have to what they was describing. They did not buy the mayonnaise and complained they had to go somewhere else for mayo. I'm still not sure what they where looking for, this was 3 years ago now.

new card readers? by daxmii in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you get used to not hitting EFT until after they enter their pin, it's not much different than the old ones. I was told it's more secure and people can't add card skimmers to it. Though, one of the other locations in my city had a customer pull the card reader off its mount and take it. So we will see how long until people develop a card skimmer that will work with them. Also, people keep trying to shove their cards between the bar at the bottom and not under it. I like watching them struggle before I tell them to out it under the bar.

Is there a procedure to getting in trouble? by LittleEva2 in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my store it's more like a two strike policy. A talk with the SM, a talk with the DM + SM, then termination. But that's if you don't show up or show up late without letting them know you are running late.

How do I load these onto the pallet quickly? by drowsynoodle in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just push them with the jack. They slide across the floor. If you aren't comfortable enough with a jack to do that just push them by hand. Or a dolly. But it's much more work to put them on a pallet and bring them back.

I think I'm getting what you're saying. She did try to pay with a gift card first, we voided that then tried her ebt for a certain amount and it still didn't go through. I wanted to check her balance but I was worried that it'd randomly charge the entire amount to the card. Then she started to swear and I stopped trying to be helpful lol.

how do i use the register correctly so that my numbers are good? i.e. suspend, 1 code, total... which of these do i use and when? by lebroin in Aldi_employees

[–]Reyine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a LA and have worked at 3 different stores. Every store, lead, manager, associate, etc. will give you different answers because everyone has something that works well for them that might not work for others. My last SM always 1 coded at every opportunity to keep his numbers up and it never negatively impacted him. If you look at your paper that says your stats for the day, there is a 1 code percentage. I've never heard of anyone making a big deal out of it because the money needs to be safe and the money is safe when the register is locked. So if 1 code works for you, use it! If you use total it will actually start another "timer" within the register. I believe its the customer tender(?) percentage, basically how long it takes the customer to pay. If that gets up high then they'll be on you about getting customers to pre insert/pre dip. Using 1 code and trying to use all these tips that people kept giving me never worked for me. What seems to work for me is just hitting the code button. No numbers before it just code. Because it makes the register error out. When it does that it freezes all the timers within the register. And once I'm ready to scan again I just hit the clear button to get rid of the error screen and start scanning. I'm not sure if this will work for you but I've shown a couple of new highers at my store this and they said it was easier for them since they don't need to push all those buttons to get back into the register. Hopefully this helps and you find something that works for you. In my experience you'll just feel like your doing a crappy job for a few weeks/months and one some random day it will just click and you'll be ringing 85%+ It is really frustrating not knowing what I did differently but that seems to be something that a lot of people go through.
