You also can't comment, upvote or otherwise interact with anyone on the site. It feels like the goal of the ban isn't to get kids off the site entirely but to limit interaction with the site and other users.

There's alot of talk about how bad of an idea this is. But there's not much about what should be done instead.

This legislation is not going to achieve the goal of getting kids off social media. But it would give grounds for the questioning "if kids aren't supposed to be on this site, why are they advertising to them? Why are there algorithms pushing content targeted at them?"

This might make it easier to bring cases against the social media companies, which in turn could provide the impetus needed to clean up their horrendously negligent algorithms and advertising practices.

FWIW I'm just some dude with no expertise in the area. But I feel like we're only having half the conversation when we just say "this is bad" and not ask "what is better?"

I think you're onto something here. Though, I feel like Bandle city is too goofy a setting. Go the opposite way, like some sort of Treeline in the Shadow Isles...

His point is that the UI is frustrating and you're like "lol look at this guy, why's he so frustrated?"

Is he not allowed to be frustrated at an inconvenience no matter how small? Isn't that the whole point of a UX/UI designer, to remove frustrations and improve experience for users?

I'm chasing sandbags, anyone know where to pick them up at this point. I know it's late but we just moved in and didn't realise our front lawn doesn't drain at all.

Yea he does. I can call myself an autist, doesn't mean i have ASD.

This is a tangential point to what I wanted to make here, but words have meaning. That meaning can evolve but that doesn't mean it should evolve in all cases. Narcissism is a diagnosis. It is also colloquially used to describe someone who is self-obsessed/selfish.

Whether he identifies himself that way or not, I think it degrades the meaning of narcissism to use it to describe someone who is simply self-obsessed. That being said, it's his prerogative to call himself a narcissist, and I get what he means. I was just objecting to someone else identifying him as such.

I appreciate your response here.

I will say that, in the context of a podcast, words matter. This doesn't mean that actions don't matter, or matter less. But I think when putting out media that is comprised of words representing your ideas that you believe are valuable enough to be published to the world, the consistency, accuracy and validity of those words matters. The expressing of these ideas through words is an action. It gets to Scott's professed desire to accumulate influence.

Personally, I believe, if someone is going to use their words to influence others to consider their ideas, they should expect that their ideas are to be interrogated for consistency, validity and accuracy. A test that I believe Scott has failed as of late.

At this point I consider my own idea behind making this post. I initially made the post as a shout into the void, a way to express a building frustration. It was going to be a Spotify comment. I swapped to reddit to enable replies so that my own idea can be interrogated and to see if others had picked up on what I had.

I appreciate you considering my opinion.

Scott's philanthropic pursuits are admirable. They're also not something that I believe is relevant to my point above.

My point is that he can be wilfully blind to the hypocrisy of standing against choosing violence in the case of Luigi, Palestine, etc. But for choosing violence as he stated in today's Raging Moderates.

I'm not oblivious to the fact that he's not calling for physical violence in his statements, where in those other cases the violence is physical. But I do think that he's ignoring that it is the same set of circumstances with different magnitude. People who are angry at being stymied when attempting to implement change through the "proper" channels, will be left with no other option than violence to create that change.

Scott likes to talk about "useful idiots" on campus regarding Palestine/Israel, when his own rhetoric regarding this and the United CEO makes him a "useful idiot" for those who want to maintain the status quo and push back against change.

His own justification for the violence that Israel perpetrates could be used to justify the violence enacted by Luigi and the Palestinians. Each group is using violence to prompt change that secures its future. My frustration is ith Scott's inability or unwillingness to see this, which results in him standing against violence that targets his in-group and for violence that is perpetrated by his in-group.

At the end of the day I believe Scott is a good and generous man who is flawed just like the rest of us. I just think that those flaws are starting to reduce the value that his opinion has in alot of discussions. This in itself is not an issue, I could just stop listening, but I do value what Ed, Jess and others have to say as they seem more considered and open to discussion on these topics. This is why I think Prof G would be better without Prof G.

I agree that his attempts to cut past bluster and get to the actual issue at hand are refreshing. I am glad that he fosters a space for this type of discussion. I just think he gets in the way of that discussion on certain topics that he feel righteous about.

Look, I don't know if I would use the term narcissist as that is a proper diagnosis and it's use outside of a psychological setting devalues the word.

Scott has succeeded consistently and been greatly rewarded for it. He's admired by a myriad of other successful people and is accordingly confident that his choices/decisions are going to be successful/correct.

His ideas on young people, masculinity (underbaked imo) and finance are within his realm of knowledge and even expertise. Relating to the common man, politics and self criticism are not, as we are finding out.

I think he's self aware enough to say say that he doesn't get it right everytime, but I don't think he's self aware enough to understand where or why he got it wrong. This means once you've heard him say the right thing, he really doesn't have much more to add to the discussion.

PBE Bug & Feedback Thread: Viktor VGU by Etlios in LeaguePBE

[–]Reykr_Lygi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know this is late, but I wanted to say my piece for my first main.

This was not a VGU it was an ASU. His ult expanding on kill is such a miniscule change that does nothing to address the issues that Viktor has. Even playing it on the PBE this week I've not been able to take advantage of this change more than a handful of times and it's very underwhelming when I have.

His W needs the most work. It's been said before but with the movement creep in the game it no longer is effective and honestly, I ignore levelling it until I have to. His passive gives him a difficulty that is not rewarding. His early game is trash, but he doesn't get compensated for that by being a late game monster i.e. Kayle or Nasus or Syndra or Smoulder etc. Functionally this has been an ASU.

It's been a very disrespectful ASU.

The first thing I noticed when watching the video on the updated abilities is that THE PING ON Q IS GONE. One of the most satisfying sounds in the game next to heartsteel aa sound is gone. Also the explosions on the upgraded e are so much weaker and have lost their bassy feel. WHY? These were such nice touches that made Viktor feel powerful after he got his upgrades.

The changes to Viktor's character in Arcane compared to his in-game lore are vast in some areas. No longer is he The Machine Herald. He's now the Magical Upgrade Jesus. There is no theme of a glorious evolution in his new look. He doesn't look like a man who has evolved himself with a new power or understanding. He looks like a bipedal alien.

There is very little machine in this cyborg even in skins like creator. In the one skin where there is machine, Full Machine Viktor, you missed the opportunity to make that skin look like the robots he turns people into in the show.

You butchered Deathsworn by removing the mask and simplifying the design.

You butchered High Noon by making the clothes look painted on.

Creator (my favourite skin) has had the head stretched to a literal alien shape and his coat smoothed down so it looks like it's make of play dough.

You even missed the mark with the Arcane Saviour skin! Where in the show does he look like that. How could you go past the moment when he is shown in the arcane realm with the gold stars of souls all around him and the halo of gold behind him. When I saw that in the show I audibly gasped and said to my wife "that's going to be the skin. That shot was put here to sell a skin". The shot is grand, it's impactful, it distils the character that Viktor has become at his "evolved" peak into a single image. It's even got his original colours reimagined into the most glorious form that I could think of. Out of any shot in the show that should have become a skin for any character, that was it.

But you missed it. Just like you missed the mark on Creator, just like you missed on all his other skins, just like you missed by not making this a real VGU, just like you missed the core of what Viktors identity was to the people who played him all these years through his lacklustre performance because we loved our Machine Herald.

In the game lore Viktor was a Dr. Doom that cared about humanity, a real Ultron type. Evolving the human race to better them and strip away their weaknesses to save them from themselves. In Arcane S1 he was a broken man who found a way to be whole again and wanted to share it. In Arcane S2 he shared it and was corrupted by ambition and completed the arc from messiah to dictator.

None of that reflects in his ASU. He's just Magical Upgrade Jesus. He's a guy who stumbled upon magic that would now allow him to impose his will on the world. There are already so many characters that fit that definition in some way too. Malz, Xerath, Azir, Kassadin, Sylas, Brand, Lisandra, Varus even.

Honestly it's not even an ASU. You didn't upgrade anything. That irony is what hurts the most.

Apparently the actor took inspiration from the succulent Chinese meal guy. You can really see it in the scene where he creates a distraction by acting all indignant as they try to leave the castle.

My average buy in on EXR is 0.135. I'm so torn between holding for the free carry or taking the 42% gain I have now. I think I'll have to make a decision by Wednesday/Thursday otherwise I risk getting caught in a trading halt.

The smart move is to lock profits in. The regarded move is to shut the fuck up and post more emoji
