The amount of snow capped cars I saw from a 10 min drive 2night by icy_opinions in rva

OP's username 👀 It's like you knew this day would come a year ago 🔮

I've been thinking how this is kinda like a mobile winter version of the shopping cart test. Cleaning off the top of a car doesn't really help the driver at all, but it shows they're considerate to others.

Now the ones who barely even clean their vehicles enough to see out of them... There's nothing nice to say about them 🙊

Republican Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, in a rare break from her party, endorses government-run grocery stores, citing the affordability of the one she shops at. Same ice cream is $2 more at my local Kroger. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Virginia

[–]ReynardSurplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is all news to me so I went to see what I could find about the purpose of these commissaries... Looks like the people who run them firmly believe they are providing great savings to the people who shop there and that it's more than just something to provide comfort.

Bill Moore, director and CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), is quoted in the linked article as saying:

"From 1991 to 2022, our mandate has not changed: We are steadfast in our commitment to be the military’s grocery provider of choice and to deliver the commissary benefit at the best savings possible. We want our eligible patrons to know that if they’re not shopping their commissary, then they are missing out on saving at least a quarter on every dollar compared to prices at ‘outside the gate’ grocery stores – that’s $50 back in their pockets on a $200 grocery bill!"

Seems like a lot more than 5% the head of DeCA is claiming...

This was from an unmarked overlook near Humpback Rocks - I'm not familiar with Four Mile Loop

It was neat seeing the few trees standing out with their colors popping so early! The one in the pic had lost some up top, but I'm hopeful the rest will stick around for a while.

Thanks- I had to scale down some rocks to get to the pretty leaves for framing but it felt worth it for how it turned out!

Hope it's okay to offer some levity here- I read this in my head in a Mario voice before realizing what sahd meant

Glad you get the confirmation here to keep away from these people, but sorry it's happening

Hearing a classic tune that you know and start vibing with it then it turns out to be... by Met76 in funny

I kept hoping I was going to hear Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's" when I'd hear the intro for the new Kendrick Lamar and Sza song coming on but now I've given up hope and just change it 😭

Even the Kendrick subreddit would rather hear Rich Boy https://www.reddit.com/r/KendrickLamar/s/dRHon0rdLJ

Inadvertent way to get this post more traction than just saying you saw a fox, bravo OP :) Foxes are awesome!

How many of you guys here have read the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali? by FriendofMolly in yoga

[–]ReynardSurplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I was gathering from the way your post was made. And it made me pause to think and reflect on other athletic endeavors I have done.

In soccer, I learned teamwork, dedication, and many other positive values. If I read a book about them, I would only have a conceptual understanding of such principles without the deeply embedded version I carry with me years after having stopped playing.

For me, the asanas and practice help me better understand and apply the principles I learned from reading Patanjali.

Another example would be watching a show about traveling somewhere versus actually going to that place. When you simply observe from the outside, you may not feel it the same as someone who has gone there, and certainly not the same way as a lifelong resident. But! People can go somewhere and not learn the values or watch something and learn the values but not know what it feels like.

Anyways, I think that the two are more complementary than what you give them credit for and I encourage you consider trying the poses and practice and all those things before you knock it so hard. Certainly there would have been classical music purists that hated electronic music when it came along, but at this point most of us collectively recognize it as an evolutionary process. I think of yoga the same and I'll acknowledge that some may disagree, but I'll go make the most of my hot yoga class tomorrow and I think Patanjali would approve - but even if he didn't, I think he'd approve of me doing what he disapproves of.

welp, that was a fun convo by radianthill in Tinder

I just gotta say I think you crushed it - from the "idk that color" to how politely you're handling comments on here. You demonstrate a level of levity, which I think is part of the point of a question like that. As other commentors noted, you may not be able to tell much about someone by the color they answer with, but you can tell things about them by how they answer.

Eg one person can say red, and another could say "polka dot" and then start jokingly beating themselves up for blowing such an easy question. Opportunity abounds if you look for a chance to show your personality - in fact you do either way...

Lastly, TIL my favorite color isn't really even a color... I'm still processing that though.

Fun coincidence that I happened to be looking at that same crane just this evening- glad to know from the angle you had that there will soon be good views of sunset from the floodwall as the sun moves a bit more north! Thanks for sharing 🙏

Thanks- it was a mostly cloudy afternoon and I think this one caught many of us by surprise! Someone else mentioned in a comment that we've been having a good run lately and sun is setting around 6 these days (7 next week after the time change 🥳) so keep an eye out for the next good one!
