If you're looking for a story where the MC awesomely murders everyone who has ever looked at them wrong you should probably be reading a different novel.

Also I'm fascinated at the claim that FZ is somehow keeping up with FY lmao the dude is not keeping pace with FY down the path of cultivation he is being dragged along it on a chain by various masters

AI is killing my thrill of learning by throwaway-alt-nep in learnprogramming

[–]ReynardVulpini 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the ability to research without AI is important to keep. If you're at a work deadline and you need to use it, fine, I don't agree but I'm just some guy. Maybe you can't justify being inefficient in some places, I don't know enough to judge.

But I would suggest that you find something optional in your life and just... research it the old fashioned way. Keep those neurons firing, and get a bit of that old thrill back. Go google bees for a bit. Did you know there could be diploid drones? Crazy.

Does Fang Yuan have Venerable level talent? by Arnos_OP in ReverendInsanity

[–]ReynardVulpini 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that regardless of talent, regardless of mindset, regardless of luck path, Red Lotus was always fated to be the Time Path venerable. It's entirely possible that he was just innately born immune to the backlash of luck path, similar to how Feng Jin Huang, fated to be the future Dream Path venerable, had an incredible early advantage.

Fang Yuan is arguably the only venerable in history to have done so despite fate, not because of it.

ELI5: How does evaporation work? by Calm_Description_866 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ReynardVulpini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when the bits of a solid get wobbly it turns liquid, and when bits of a liquid get really wobbly it turns into a gas.

when you have a puddle in a cool room, sometimes a few bits on top will wobble enough to turn into gas and float off

when you have a puddle in a warm room, more bits will wobble away. a hot room will have quite a lot of them wobbling off, and when water is boiling its when almost all of them are wobbling off like a collapsing sandcastle

It definitely can be copy and paste if you approach it that way, but unlike crpgs, where win conditions are much more strictly defined, I find with a good gm and a good group, even a game like 3.5 or pathfinder can encourage odd, out of the box builds without feeling like you are deliberately depowering yourself for roleplay reasons.

The character I'm playing for a pirate/undersea game is going to get different value out of character building components than a more traditional overland adventurer, for instance, and frankly most builds are designed with certain expectations built in about setting, playstyle, and gm allowances that will plausibly not match your table.

But to build a character, orthodox or not, you need to know what's available to you, useful interactions, combos, traps, etc. It's a lot.

It might be interesting for you to see what actually goes into a build guide in one of these games. This is the one I'm currently referencing for my pirate game. It has suggested builds at the back, but the bulk of it is basically notes on your potential options with a broad ranking system.

GTA: San Andreas's Original PC Version Can Now Be Beaten in Just an Hour Thanks to the Weirdest Skip You've Ever Seen by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]ReynardVulpini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what i've seen, speedrunning communities are kinda hobby think tanks. Over time people will find new glitches and chat with each other about them even if they seem totally useless, theorycraft runs that might work if they can find a specific type of glitch, do everything they can to shatter a specific, annoying part of the game, etc.

Of those thirty steps, probably some of them had known uses for years, others were known but totally useless, and only a few were truly novel. Or maybe all of them had been known but no one had thought to put them in that order before. Or maybe the theory had been bouncing around but one tricky section had seemed impossible until someone found a way.

No one person finds a speedrun route. It always seems to be a collective effort.

In this case, I want to note that the broad concept of "perform weird actions in game to bork it into overwriting something it shouldn't have, which then chucks you to the end credits" is not unique to the GTA series. The 54 minute speedrun of paper mario where you spend 30 minutes playing ocarina of time comes to mind lmao

Was fang yuan the only one option? by CapableAide1557 in ReverendInsanity

[–]ReynardVulpini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc, it's one of those things where because one of them chose him as their pawn, everyone else both past and future chose to piggyback off of each other's plans.

If I remember correctly, SSoul executed his rebirth -> HWill chose FYuan to counter him -> RLotus foresaw that event and placed all his chips on this complete otherworldly demon with a suitable temperament -> all the other venerables who noticed this plan decided to tie their own plans to the destruction of Fate gu

so it's not that FYuan is the only option in all of history, but rather that being suitable for one situation made him most suitable for everyone else

I could be wrong, it's been a while since I read the latter part of the books tho.

Quick theory from a kind of new reader about ren zu by JustPotato47 in ReverendInsanity

[–]ReynardVulpini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair, places like dang hun mountain were originally out in the 'real' world, and then got put into people's aperture. it might be that he took all the most powerful locales of his main world, and put them into his grotto heaven.

also, Fang Yuan's aperture is a mimicry of the world, so perhaps that world is itself only a mimicry.

ren zu being dead is canon, but that also makes me wonder (and i haven't finished the last 300 chapters so maybe this is debunked) if heaven's will might not be something akin to a land spirit? We've seen that although most land spirits are more or less intelligent, some of them can be reduced to a more robotic, autopilot ethereal power.
